Its a Lovely Campsite & It has so many Different Birds & Trees Although they seem to be cutting many Big trees down (what a sad thing to see!)Its a real shame as it will spoil the place if they carry on clearing Much more. It will be a shame if it is lost to PROGRESS. Love the Big House, Lakes & Café & views are fantastic. But all I wanted to here was birds not Chainsaws all weekend!. Warden's are nice people, Toilets are basic, but I like that in a campsite

My son and I have just come back home with heavy hearts after leaving this beautiful place - we had a ball, it is a wildlife haven and to wake up to the birdsong all around us was really special.
The wash rooms are basic, but I really hope they do not change it as it is really a unique spot.
There is a stunning cafe also for lovely coffee and food just up the road.
My son is 7 and we took some bat and ball and swingball and he was kept happy during the down time.
Lovely walk into Burnham along the river and we ate at the Oyster Smack Inn and the food and service was truly lovely.
Magical!

Loved this place. Peace and quiet, good fishing, lovely setting next to an old manor house (Creeksea Place) which has a great history. 1/2 hour walk to Burnham on Crouch where there's a couple of decent pubs. Friendly, down-to-earth and honest place with plenty to explore.
This place is great if you don't want/like the more commercial venues. Maldon is nearby and is a great town to head to for the day, even just driving around the countryside is worthwhile for the houses and coastal features are beautiful. We will definitely be back.

The owner is very friendly, and admits the place could do with a tidy up as it's a bit over grown, and there area few abandoned statics around the place. Even so, it's still pretty.
The site as mentioned in previous reviews is woodland, with a lot of static homes occupied by permanent residents for the majority of the year. The camp site is small, and surrounded by trees, with space for maybe 3 very large tents or five smaller ones. There is electric hook up on one or two pitches.
The ground is bumpy and a little uneven, but not so as you'd notice much. The washing up facilities and showers are dated, but clean, and usually empty, with only a deposit for the door key. There is no play area for children, just a rope swing, but for a family with little ones, it's quiet, and a walk to the lake is lovely.
At three pounds per person per night, and no other charges, this is an inexpensive little getaway in the beautiful area of the Crouch river Essex, with Burnham close by for shops and pubs, and easy access to Southend on sea just 26 miles away. There is a lovely lake for fishing, or feeding ducks, and the whole area is peaceful and tranquil.
I cannot say enough good things about this site, it would take all day, but I do hope it remains exactly as it is for fear of losing it's charm and solitude. The only negative were the wasps, being surrounded by woodland, there were plenty of them, but citronella candles just made the evenings more magical. Highly recommended site for those who want some peace and quiet, and a base to explore the surrounding countryside. We will certainly be going back for a much longer stay.

This is a caravan park set in woodland. The majority of pitches are permanent and occupied by older people. The shower block was basic and old but sufficient. Most of the campsite used their own caravans for washing etc. and I got the impression that the owner had no incentive to improve the facilities for campers anytime soon. There are limited pitches for Campervans and tents but those available looked pleasant and offered shade. Our grassy pitch had electric hookup and water taps were within a few yards - cost was £10 per night all in. Owner (Geoff) was pleasant and helpful. No noise after about 10pm. Shop on site had just opened that weekend - selling essentials, BBQ meats, lollies. Duck pond and play field (no swings etc)for the kids. A mile and a half along a good path to Burnham with good quayside crabbing and lunches. It is a picturesque little town with good cream teas, some takeaways, a cinema, a steam railway and boat trips - plenty to do in the event of rain.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a tent. Very reasonably priced at 3 pound per adult per night (young kids £1.50.) Had water points and electric points and chemical waste points all nearby. Tent field is small and houses I would say 4 tents but thats with plenty of room. The site owner is very friendly. Showers were ok but not great, although they worked and were hot, the interior was very dated and could do with a scrub! Overall we will be going back, but make sure you take insect repellent as we were right next to a big lake and woodland so the gnats are everywhere! I came home with 26 bites! Fishing is also allowed on site with carp up to 23lb apparently. Very quiet place, no noise, but only down the road you are in Burnham which has the river, pubs, shops etc. All round a good place to go if you want a quiet relaxing break, if you want pubs, parties and noise, its definitly not the place to go! A lot of caravans on the other fields occupied by mainly older couples who live in them 9 months of the year. Shop on site closed down years ago, so take essentials with you on the first day, until you can get to the local tesco and co-op in Burnham. We will be returning again for definite!

We stayed here with a family group of 3 units for just over a week in rainy may. Facilities are very dated at this site BUT always clean and with plenty of hot water. Only 2/4 showers worked in ladies and 1/4 in mens. But as no one else seemed to use them this was never a problem and they were free!there were loads of toilets. Actually it was lovely not to have to queue like at the other prestine sights we usually go to. This site is surrounded by wooded areas, lakes and wildlife as it grew on us and we loved it. £10 deposit for key to use showers and toilets. The washing up area was very very old and dirty BUT again lots of hot water and a huge sink. Swings in trees for kids to play on and big field at top of field. There was space for about 5 tents where we were but with plenty of space, no set pitches, very private and with electric hook up. Water tap, bins and chemical toilet disposal point nearby. Shop seemed to be empty. Lovely walk into Burnham where kids were happy crabbing for 2 days, great fun. Great pubs and a unique old cinema that was so cheap and kept us happy out of the rain for a few hours. There is a small sandy beach and some great kids playgrounds suitable for all ages. Lots of boats to see. Geoff the owner was very friendly and helpful without being intrusive and at £30 per group we will be back. If you want to get away from set pitches, pristine cut grass, noise and back to nature you will love it here. Bring insect repellent though !

Good, homely site, friendly owner, surrounded by walking land! Will return soon and at £3 a night for a tent and me seems a bargain. Toilets and shower block clean with non adjustable shower heads, a little cool perhaps. Key needed to use facilities, deposit taken. Washing up room had only one functional sink but really hot water and lots of it. There were plenty of hook ups available even for tents, although I didn't need it. There was a small shop which I never saw open. Burnham on sea is about a mile away with its full range of shops and facilities.
