Like others, tried this site as a stop over before moving down to castle douglas. Liked the site a lot, the dog walk was good and safe. The grounds are kept in good condition. Loved the whisky, bought a bottle and used the pub over the road. As others have said facilities basic but adequate with roomy showers and loads of hot water. The owner was very helpful showing us round where to find water, toilets etc and there was little noise from the distillery. Motorhomes can park quite well in nearby Wigtown so if looking for books is your thing you are in the book capital of Scotland. Well worth a couple of nights stay.

This is a very easy site to find next to the river, check in was swift and easy although we had to ask all the questions about toilet / shower facilities etc. The shower block is located above the distillery shop and is open 24 hours.Basic and could do with re-decoration but spacious, free and piping hot water, also a socket for hairdryer etc. We set up camp in the big field at the far end of the Distillery. The ground is somewhat uneven but is not rocky. It is a hike back to the facilities but the location is nicely secluded and sheltered. After we had set up and were ready for that first cuppa had a fun 10 minutes looking for a tap we played follow the blue pipe until we located it in the corner about 30 feet from the tent! The thing that made this site outstanding for us was the wealth of wildlife we had the pleasure of watching at extremely close quarters the 3 nights we were there. Red deer and its young,Golden Eagles, a family of 5 foxes( 2 adults and 3 cubs ) rabbits, hares and an amazing array of wild birds including swallow, house martins to name but a few.If Bill Oddie and Kate Hummble were looking for a new location for Springwatch they could do a lot worse than choosing this site! This is a wonderful part of Scotland to explore with something for everyone, well ,no nightclubs or arcades but we ain,t complaining. Hope to be back soon.

August 2005 Had a great time at the Bladnoch distillery. Facilities very limited but were clean. Only two toilets and they are a fair hike from the field campsite and a good walk from the sloping area.
Beautiful part of the country, and with the distillery it was very atmospheric. The owner was extremely helpful, even though it was his day off. Didnt get the smell of the whisky or maltings as mentioned in another review! The pub across the road was handy.
Worth checking whether or not there will be a function on in the hall beside the sloping campsite. The music was extremely loud. A few beers at the local bar helped us sleep through the noise! Could be a real problem if you wanted an early night or had small kids.
Not a suitable camp site for families, but well worth a visit for a couple of nights. Very well maintained site and very pretty area.

August 2004 What a very nice site,on the grounds of the distillery. The smell of the whiskey is lovely !!!The showers are kept nice and clean and are free. If you want a nice quiet campsite and this is the place to be, lots of nice places to walk and a pub that do lovely meals across the road. There is also a guided tour of the distillery. Lots of places to see in the area and beaches that are deserted.

2004 Some "partial" but factual details from the owner if permissable. Situated in the grounds of Bladnoch Distillery about 6 miles from Newton Stewart and 1 mile from Wigtown, Scotlands National Booktown. The distillery grounds stretch along the river Bladnoch for two miles. Camping facilities are very basic with limited facilities and comprise either a flat 6 acre field (with poor drainage in wet weather) adjacent to Cotland Wood and some 200 metres from the toilets at the distillery. So bring your bike if you have a weak bladder. The grass on about two acres of this field is kept cut short and we are never short of space in this field. The alternatively camping location is some gently sloping ground nearer to the rear of the distillery. Camper vans/caravans etc may prefer to park on the reasonably flat asphalt. We have two such courtyard areas each with an electric outlet for 4 caravans. We have only two WC's and 2WHB and 2 Showers and because of this we limit numbers. There is an attractive riverside walk through Cotland Wood for 1.5 miles. Part of this has been levelled and gravelled for wheelchair use. Part of the river is unfenced and may be hazardous to small children. Our facilities for children are poor but good for well behaved dogs. Kayaks available for experienced adult canoeists and instruction can sometimes be given to children. Live music most Sunday afternoons in summer months in a large ceilidh room. Trout fishing £5 per day. Pub/restaurant opposite Good wildlife in this quiet part of SW Scotland. Recommend booking at peak holiday dates. Bladnoch is a small privately owned working distillery and the stone and slate buildings date from 1817.
