Booked easily online, paid via debit card for 3 night at £20 per night, should have read terms and conditions first as they did not allow awnings with ground sheets, phoned to cancel but I was told they would make an exception which I was pleased with, arrived on a Friday to pitch 30, it had plenty of room for camper and awning, was greeted by friendly warden (who was brilliant through out our stay), I asked if I could move pitch as I was right beside the road, but the site was full, which was fair enough. My roadside pitch was about 4 meters from a very busy road which turned into a race track at night, which was quite scary as a small hedge row and a few trees separated is from the traffic.
Apart from that I found the site clean and tidy, the warden working endlessly from dusk to dawn ensuring this, the only niggle I had with the site was the toilet and shower block, there is only one mens shower and 2 women's showers servicing 40 pitches, which them selves are very dated, with loose floor tiles with water sloshing under them, don't get me wrong they are clean but just need renovated to a modern standard.
Tips for the site ;
Book early via phone to ensure you don't have a road side pitch.
Wear flip flops or crocs in the showers as tiles can be loose.
Would I come back ? No, there are better sites out there for the same money with free wifi and modern facilities

This is a peaceful site, well maintained with EHU, water and waste on hard standing pitches. Plenty of room for an awning and car. The toilets block is clean if a little dated. A 2 minute walk takes you onto the sandy beach which is nice and safe. A good walk along the beach. Booking is by phone or online booking service. Very easy online with a email confirmation sent to you. Toilet block is for the use of tourers only and a key is given to you on arrival.

Right ok, so even though the toilets need updating they are still clean and serviceable. That possibly was the only downside for me. Bangor is only a 15 minute drive away which has everything you need. The staff were not as stuck up and unfriendly as some other sites (Delamount)and there was definitely a nice atmosphere that came in with the weather. I felt safe in letting my kids play in the sand pit and surrounding grass areas and even found the beach to be up to a decent standard (lets face it, it's hardly Bondi) and the site never died a death at 10 pm with quite a few people sitting up and having a quiet drink. I will 100% be back before the season ends and recommend you give it a try.

Booked last minute late decision to go away for weekend. Phoned site to book very pleasant on the phone as last minute did not need to send deposit. Nice quiet and roomy site, not much round that area although Ballywalter country fair on which was good day out although pricey £10 each. Toilet block needs upgrading as water seeped through tiles in shower cubicles when stood on. Beach close by but smelled. People friendly enough. Doubt I would go back not much going on that side of coast.

The person I booked with was a bit patronising on the phone but was frienly once we got there. The site is fine. There was a good playground for children. The re-cycling was not clearly marked so it was difficult to know what to put in which bin. The toilets were clean, the showers were fine. Visitors were able to come and go. There were some very rude children who would not move off the path when we were leaving and they made rude signs at us, there did not seem to be much supervision for them. The beach was a bit mucky and was smelly.

Sandycove is primarily a caravan site for static holiday home type caravans. It does however have a small area set aside for tourers. Each concrete base pitch (these are small but level) are fully serviced.
The shower / toilet block is old and in need of updating but is reasonably clean (but falls far short of the standard you would get in a Caravan Club site).
The site is located on the coast of the Ards Peninsula about 25 miles from Belfast. Despite being so close to the city the road (A2) to this site is surprisingly narrow and bumpy and be prepared to sit doing 20mph behind a tractor on your journey to Sandycove. This area is popular with static caravan owners and day trippers from Belfast, but other than sandy beaches has little to offer as there is no scenery worth mentioning and none of the coastal villages offer more than a pub, shop and chippy.
The site itself is directly on the beach, but again it is primarily for statics and it is these that have direct views to the beach, the touring area is situated back from the beach separated from the road by a low fence with incomplete hedging. Despite being close to the beach, you do not have beach/sea views as this is completely blocked by the static caravans.
Perhaps the worst aspect of Sandycove is that you can not book a pitch over the telephone. You have to phone them, they then post out a form which you have to return with payment in advance. This is a very cumbersome process and OK for a trip planned far in advance, but hardly suitable for that last minute trip!
Would I recommend Sandycove, probably not.
