This site was disappointing as it advertised itself as having sea views, but the tent field had a row of conifers blocking the view! Toilets were old fashioned, in need of an update. Fairly quiet during the day but at night there was a lot of noise from a neighbouring site that had karaoke at top volume! Lovely part of Cornwall though.

Management response: Please note, all reviews refer to previous ownership . The site has changed hands since, and no longer offers any touring or tenting pitches, it has only holiday caravans for rent now. |

August 2005 Spent a lovely week camping at Gwendreath farm. The views are fantastic but hard to see in the camping field, the toilets and shower blocks are a little out dated but adequate. There is no shop on site but plenty of shops nearby. My two children aged 8 and 1 really enjoyed this site and loved exploring the nature area. Would recomend this site if you want a quiet family holiday in a beautiful part of Cornwall.

August 2003 It's a great site but more geared up for static caravans than campers, because the facilities consisted of portacabins. The beach was about 20mins walk away and the path down to it was quite steep in places and as it is through a wood it can get quite humid walking through. If you are a dog owner then you have to walk a little further to a second beach which is a little bit more pebbly but quieter. The campsite itself does not have a shop, but you can borrow books from the office and the small chalet park next door allows you to use its small retaurant, bar and shop. During the summer months there is a firework display on the chalet park at the weekends which is always worth watching!

August 2004 Gwendreath Farm is in a quiet location not far from the Goonhilly downs, and has spectacular views over the sea. It is ideally situated for visiting the Lizard peninsula, or even towards Lands End if you don't mind the drive.
The local beach is clean and safe (but no life guards), and there are also plenty of other good beaches around this part of Cornwall. We chose to drive to the beach as the walk is not ideal for small children, but the car parking was ample.
The pitches were clearly marked and spacious, and the grounds of the site were well maintained. The camping field was tree lined offering a fair amount of shelter from the elements. The owners were helpful and welcoming.
The site is peaceful during the day time, but there was some (fairly distant) noise from a pub for a couple of hours in the evening.
I did find that the facilities were a little overstretched at busy times, and often had to race for the shower or queue for a washing up sink. The women's showers were a bit on the small side - ok for one but a struggle with 2 kids in tow. I didn't like having to pay for the shower either (20p for 6 minutes), personally I'd rather pay more for the pitch in the first place.
I think that the statics would be the best bet on this site, as they have the best views of the sea and their own facilities.

July 2004 A small well maintained site which is well placed to explore the west of Cornwall. We found the site to be very peaceful and quiet during the day but it is a family site so naturally there are children playing around during the evenings.
The adjoining site has a shop which opens for 2 hrs each morning and evening and has a small restaraunt and bar all of which are available for use by those on Gwendreath Farm. The shower block consisted of two showers (charged at 20p a time) so there were occasionally queues and the gents toilets contained some of the smallest washbasins I've ever seen!
The beach nearby is Kennack Sands and can be accessed via a footpath which was about a 20 minute walk. The path can be a bit of a hike with all your beach gear and it's all uphill on the way back! definately not suitable for toddlers or pushchairs. You can access the beach by road and it's about a 5 mile journey round. We found that nearby Praa Sands was a much nicer beach.
