Please note that from the 2010 season, this site no longer accepts touring caravans, or tents. They have holiday homes only now.

This year we really struggled to book a campsite that would accept large tents over a Bank Holiday Weekend. Thankfully Priory Park were more than accommodating when booking and promised us that we would be based upon large pitches. However, upon arrival this was not the case, thankfully we are close friends with the other party with us as we were located right on top off one another. A huge fire risk and we were extremely disappointed considering the arrangements previously made.
Apart from the above, Priory Park is definitely a hidden gem with tight security. The Park itself is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The wash facilities were commendable, apart from the water pressure problems, which were easily overlooked. It was hard to visualise that we were actually camping.
However, you will need to note that being a tent camper, they are regulated to a small wooded area that is 100% shaded by the trees so no enjoyment could be achieved from the sunny days. The ground we camped on was not green just twigs and dirt which wasn't practical to allow the kids to sit on the floor and the tents become dirty very quickly. Although the caravan campers are allowed on a spacious green field. If only the tents were also allowed on this field. Things would have been a lot better.
The tent area is also located by deep water and all pitches are not allocated it is a first come first serve basis.
The play area for the children is off a high standard but is really ideal for the older children as it is not close to the camping areas and all children have to be escorted and monitored. It is a shame that it is not based within the camping areas for all to enjoy throughout the day.
The bar facilities were only opened limited hours and were not very accommodating.
The Swimming Pool was also very clean and strict with those using it ie checked against the bookings and all noted. So even if you have friends popping by to say hello the use of the facilities is not allowed without being charged a day rate fee which isn't cheap.
No shop currently existed on this campsite, so a 5 minute drive was required to the local retail park.
Despite the above, we would return in the future and take the risk of trying to pitch our tent on the caravan field due to the space available and would highly recommend this campsite to others.

I agree with the previous reviewer. This is a real hidden gem and it is well worth a visit.
The park is mainly a retirement/ holiday village with a bar/ restaurant and a 9 hole golf course. The touring section is well away from the main village in a large gently sloping field running down to the River Orwell Estuary. The toilet and shower facilities are excellent, with individual private showers and toilets. The pitches are large and mainly on gravel standings.
We bowled up in mid August at short notice and there were lots of pitches with an electrical hook up available. Most of the pitches are around a large oval central green, which has some permanent barbecues for visitors to use. Beware that some of the pitches are a little steep so you will need chocks and levelling blocks.
Other facilities on the complex include an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and an impressive looking children's playground. The whole site is beautifully maintained and generally has a very upmarket feel about it.
Security is excellent. The site is guarded by large wrought iron gates, for which you need a four digit security code to enter. On this subject, this is probably why the site is not very well known. As you approach Priory Park you have to drive along a private road for about ½ mile and as you enter the complex you actually pass another separate caravan site on the left. The entrance to Priory Park is about another 200 yards on and looks more like the entrance to a grand country estate rather than a caravan park. I would take a bet that a fair proportion of visitors to Priory Park actually end up in on the wrong site and don’t even realise it.
About a mile up the road is a small retail park with a couple of supermarkets various shops a pub and a brilliant Chinese take-away.
I would definitely recommend this site to anyone looking for a nice peaceful break with top quality facilities.

I can't understand why there are not many other reviews on this camp site. This has to be the best site we have camped on so far.
It is clean and very well kept, the shower and toilet block is out of this world, with private wash rooms and plenty of space.
The camping area is well tucked away at the bottom of the site surrounded and sheltered by trees. You can see the River Orwell through the trees, and if lucky, as we were, you may see a huge container ship sail past.
You can walk down to the river, but would be best suited going up out of the site and through the woodland park which will bring you out by the Orwell Bridge.
The tent area has a number of hook ups some by the duck pond but it is a bit more open there.
Before you reach the tent area, there is a large field for caravans and motor homes, hardly anyone on this when we were there.
There are also some built in barbecues for general use.
Next to the site is a golf course, and there are other large ornamental ponds around the park.
The bonus point is the on site bar, just right for, after you have pitched your tent, a nice refreshing pint.
The owners are very friendly and helpful, I think on the down-side they are a bit too easy going with booking in and out times. It is a first come first served basis with the hook-ups, so you need to get there fairly early to get a good spot. However some people take for ever to pack up, in fact we witnessed what was probably the longest pack up ever seen, 8 hours to pack away a trailer tent. Given that there was a party of people with three tents who were waiting for this space, they still didn't hurry themselves up.
Also some people without hook-up were using the spaces where the hook-up points were.
Still the tent area had plenty of space, despite being small. The good thing too was that everyone was well behaved. Usually we end up with neighbours from hell, but we had two nights peaceful sleep.
Nearby a short drive or easy walking distance, is a shopping area with two supermarkets. Felixstowe and Ipswich are within half hour drive, with park and rides for Ipswich.
All in all, a great place, and we shall definitely be returning.
