Stayed with partner 4 days, only 2 toilets in gents and ladies, but ladies had one blocked toilet the whole time we were there, not cleaned every day. Laundry room okay but expensive to use, dishwashing area could not be used after 6 in evening as no lights in the room. Also no lights on stairway leading to toilets and showers. Could be a nice site as close to shops etc and on first impression looks pleasant and quaint. We didn't stay as long as planned, moving to another site on the island.

The position of this site was good, we wanted to go here because we wanted a cheap holiday with the dog. The caravan was old but fine, because of the dog we didn't expect much, walks were great past the pond into fields and woods.

Glad we didn't camp as agree with the last review, don't go if you want a pretty campsite and don't hire the sheets if you rent a caravan they stank of damp cigarettes didn't complain as wanted a stress free holiday!

This review follows the pattern of our visit to the site and represents the main impressions we came away with. Overall the IOW was an enjoyable holiday but that was mostly down to the Isle rather than the site as we were out all day.

The Welcome - curiously absent compared to our experience of previous camp sites. We did arrive somewhat early but the owner seemed somewhat unprepared and walked us to a pitch almost without saying a word. A few more encouraging words of welcome would not go amiss.

Pitches -We had asked for two adjacent pitches as we were two families camping together. This was provided but meant we rather overwhelmed the small space in which there was also another tent being used by a young couple. This site is more caravan than tent, the ground is like rock and my tent peg casualty list was extremely high! Bear in mind they were tempered steel not aluminium and you'll get the idea! Even hard ground spikes were a struggle. Both we and our friends pitched ok in the end and we were fine being a little close; but there was really not enough space in that area for three tents (one 6 man, one 8 man plus the four manner already there). We felt slightly sorry for the youngsters but things worked ok as they were out when we were in : nonetheless the space was badly allocated.

Facilities

This is a small family run site. There is no on site shop but Morrisons is a 2 minute hop down the road so that was not a major issue.

During our stay for the first two days neither gents nor ladies showers were cleaned. It was only after my wife complained to the owners that this was done. Thereafter they were ok. Showers are 20p for 6 minutes.

The site has a carp lake which is well stocked and which proved a hit with the children who became avid fishermen. However, aside from that there was no room for them play at all either round the tents (as the pitch was too full of tents) or elsewhere on the site.

Location

The site is is in an excellent location and getting anywhere on the island seems easy. Sandown, Shanklin, are very close so the beach is 10-15 minutes in the car.

On the Site

The other outstanding element which stays etched in my mind is the permanent residents on the site who were an interesting bunch to say the least. To be fair our 'pitch' was right outside their caravans but seeing chaps wandering about with cans of Special Brew at 9:30am is not what we went for. Likewise the very amiable but rather stoned gentleman who joined us one evening as we sat around a fire was again a little unexpected. Conversation with folks is part of camping but when one party struggles to assemble and connect two thoughts in 5 or 6 minutes it makes the exercise a bit of a trial.

Spent a week on this site, we actually moved here after spending a week on another site. We called in on speck and were offered a pitch which was very generous in size (the site only offers about 13 touring pitches). We had a pleasant stay.
Short walk to Morrisons supermarket, very good bus service to Ryde, Sanddown and Shanklyn. Fishing lake on site full of carp just take a lot of bread.
Site clean and tidy, owners very pleasant. Toilets fair except when we were there only one men's shower working which even with only, at most, 20 males on site caused a queue.
Nice pub along a roadside walk on a airfield, brill food and drinks very reasonable priced. Would recommend as a site to see the island from. Prices on site were very reasonable for August. Not all pitches had elec hook up.
