Please note this Pub no longer offers camping or caravanning pitches. The pub is still open, but the campsite is now closed.

Really enjoyed our stay on the campsite despite choosing the wettest month in 2008 to visit - nearly 2 inches of rain dumped on the tent. However, we were not flooded out as the site has a very gentle slope leading the water down to the stream.

Toilet and shower for the site was clean. The toilet was through a small sink area, behind another door. However, the only lock is on the sink area door so if you need to use the loo at bedtime, you have to wait for the person before to finish brushing their teeth!

Site is very small and we did feel crowded when there were two other tents on the site but the owners were looking to open up another area to one side of the existing site.

Cars are parked in the car park at the back of the tents which is very close.

Word of warning - if your tent suddenly lights up in the night - it's probably just someone leaving the pub and switching their car headlights on!

The previous reviewer has covered everything else, the family were very pleasant throughout our stay and accommodating to the fact that a monsoon had hit Bridport that week.

Also look out for the resident moggy and rabbit on the site.

We weren't really sure what to expect of the Spyway Inn campsite from the website information so we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The pub and grounds are in a fantastic location nestled in the Dorset hills with beautiful greenery all around. They're in the village of Askerwell apparently, but I don't recall there being many other buildings around. The campsite itself is located next to the pub's beer garden. It is just a small field - no electric hook-ups, and on a slight slope. I had been worried that we might be kept up by noise from the beer garden, but it turned out we were more likely to be keeping the locals up.

On our arrival, no one was in the pub to direct us to a plot, so after making a trip to the supermarket in the nearby town (about 6 miles away) we chose a site ourselves, right next to the stream that runs across the bottom of the camping field and the owners were fine with our choice when they did arrive. We'd booked in advance for fear that we might otherwise struggle to get a place, but in fact there was only one other tent at the site aside from our party, and we barely noticed them as they were tucked around a corner and behind a tree on the campsite.

All the pub's facilities were at our disposal (they provide an off-licence and take away food service too) and we found them very accommodating when we asked to borrow some cutlery. They also had no qualms about us taking a nightcap from the pub outside to drink on the camp ground, and were also happy for us to use a disposable BBQ on the site.

I can't remember whether there were one of two toilets/showers, but in any case they were fine, and only a minute's walk away from our plot. The bathroom facilites are separate from the pub and are only opening to campers, who are given a key to them on arrival.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Spyway Inn. We felt it was remotely situated enough to enable us to really relax, while the pub and its very relaxed staff provided a few home comforts.
