We stayed at this site for 2 weeks in August 2011 with our trailer tent.
The site is a nice size, which is very popular with French holiday makers. It has all grass pitches, most of which are shady under trees. Almost all pitches are separated with either a hedge or fence. Part of the site has mobile homes on them (which look like mini chalets as seem to be the norm in France)
Most pitches were huge had a few leaves underfoot - we wish that we had taken a brush to clear them up before we pitched. The ground can be quite sandy in some places, so sometimes are pegs came out of the ground. We also had ants on our pitch, but we bought an ant trap and they were gone within 24 hours! By the second week we were there, it had quietened down enough that newcomers were allowed to choose their own pitch.
The site has 2 toilet blocks. One is much nicer than the other! But, they are both clean, and the showers are always hot. The toilets are all unisex, so it can be a bit of a surprise at first if you are not expecting it. The newer block has toilets, washing up, basins and showers together. The older block has 2 separate rooms with toilets and showers, another with toilets, showers, urinals and sinks. A third room houses more showers and private cubicals with basins in. Washing up facilities are sandwiched in between 2 of the rooms, and a handwashing area is outdoors at one end. There is also a washing machine and a tumble dryer. There is a disabled bathroom (which is kept locked) and a baby bathroom. There is no toilet roll provided. There are also hole in the ground type toilets, but people seemed to be using these just as chemical waste!
There are 2 pools, one outside with a baby pool attached and an indoor one. Neither are very deep, and both are kept lovely and clean. Around the pool area no shoes are allowed, or food drinks or smoking. The pool tended to be fairly empty most of the time, so there were always sun loungers available.
There is a small playground which has a sand floor, a boule area and a ball court with basket ball hoops.
The site held 1 disco a week and had a couple of activitys like a children's activity morning with free candy floss and games. It was all very lo key.
The bar was nice, a pool table and a variety of drinks and icecream. A glass of wine is just 1. 50euro. It was normally very quiet at the bar, but the disco was very popular. It sells French sticks every day and croissants - but you have to be up very early for the croissants!
The site is quiet, and everyone there was very respectful of others. There was noise from another site most evenings, but it was just background noise really, and it always stopped at 11. 30.
The reception staff were lovely. You need to pay a 20euro deposit for the security barrier, which wont open after 11pm, and a security guard checks the site throughout the night. They have a freezer for iceblocks etc in reception. They charge 50cents to swap your iceblocks. There is a back gate which allows you to walk to the beach which isnt far away. Its a short drive and has lots of parking space.
Close by are St Jean De Mont and St Giles Croix De Vie, both nice seaside towns, and in between them all are little villages which have loads of restaurants and places to take the kids.
The feeling forest was amazing and the children loved it, but go in the morning as in the afternoons it was packed.
Just a short drive away was a little supermarket, and in St Hilaire itself was a large supermarket.
The only thing that we were disappointed with was the lack of food choices in restaurants. The area speciality is moules frites (mussels and chips) and other than that there was pizza or steak. We looked in different towns but that really was it! The towns all sell the most amazing icecream however, nothing like we get in the uk. Well worth 2euros!
This site was exactly what I was looking for when I booked - family friendly but not so geared up for children that it was like a theme park. If you want a happy medium, or don't have children with you then this would be a great site. I think we will go back!

Have been to this area many times, the first time have stayed at this site.
The site is not a large site, however it has 2 shower and toilet blocks with washing up facilities; these are cleaned twice a day. There is also available washing machine, tumble dryer at each block. Showers are of good quality with hot water all times of the day.
English is spoken by reception so not a problem if you’re French is not too good.
Pitches are good size with plenty of natural shade from trees and not sandy, I was easily able to get my 23ft caravan on a pitch with awning and have space to sit with table and chairs as well as lounging area.
There are 2 pools indoor and outdoor which were great not too deep so safe for kids.
There was no shop onsite however bread and croissants available fresh each morning. Hyper you supermarket only 5 minutes drive away for all other shopping.
No food available at onsite bar, however travelling pizza and other take away vans arrived several nights each week.
The site is not a loud late night drinks and music as bar closes at 23:00 aprox
It is about 5 min by car to closest beech where ample parking for over 100 cars. Note beech has life guards along it at several points although it stated some are observation posts only, however if want there were 2 supervised areas.
A nice tough on arrival is the fact that you are given a map of area, which shows the beech and all car parks, walking trails etc.
There are lots of good “kid safe” bicycle cycle paths we were able to cycle to St Giles (about 8K) one day and another all way to St Jean De Mont (12K). If you fancy a walk instead then there are many hiking trails as highlighted on the map with nearby forest.
Places close are Fleeing forest (French version of Go Ape if you know it) Climbing trough tree etc, there is also 15 min drive towards St Jean De Mont “ Atlantic water park” which is great day out with plenty of water slides and rapids on rubber rings. I must say though at 18Euros for adult and 15 Euros for under 12 years it can see a bit pricey but well work that special holiday treat.
There is a circus and fair ground toward St Jean De Mont or other direction there is fair ground in St Giles (well to be precise the other side of river in Crox deVile)
Wednesdays and Saturdays are Market days in St Giles which are good experience and chance to practice your French especially if you like seafood.

We visited this site and found it an excellent base for visiting the area. If you like cycling this is brilliant as you can easily cycle to the beach which is very closeby and to St Jean De Mont if you want to go out for a nice meal without driving the car! The cycle paths in the area are great & everywhere is flat!
The facilities on site are very good - you can get fresh bread from the small shop near reception daily & there are 2 large hypermarkets only 5 mins away. There is also a takeaway van that seemed to be there most nights offering indian/ chinese & other specialities. The toilets are kept clean as are the showers & there is a washing machine for your laundry.
There is lots to do on site for the children with a play park, great swimming pools (one indoor & one outdoor, games room & football pitch. There is also a nice bar area overlooking the pool for all your refreshments. The staff on site are very friendly & made us very welcome, so much so, we are going back in 2008 !
Overall rating I would give 9 out of 10.

August 2003 A nice little site, well kept and in a very good position for access to the beach and surrounding area. Although the site itself is quiet the surrounding sites are more active, but nothing lasts after midnight so noise isn't a big problem and during the day it's blissfully tranquil.
The site itself is very compact and the pitches do feel very tight and this feeling is increased because the site is full of trees, with all the pitches bordered by hedges and screens. This does give it a cosy feel, but if you like open spaces you may find this claustrophobic. You may also find this a problem if you are towing a large unit, although some pitches do seem to allow for this, so it would be wise to let the site know in advance you need room. This, and the trees are the only bad things I can say about this site. On some of the pitches (not all) they are going to cover your unit/tent with sap and drop the largest cones I've seen on you (mind you, the kids thought this was fantastic). Several campers had covered their tents up with tarpaulins and we were lucky in only having a cheap tent we were getting rid of that year anyway. Be prepared for a cleaning job when you return home if you land one of these pitches.
It has one central, unisex, well equipped amenities block for the whole camp and it can get busy at certain times of the day. There are numerous water taps throughout the site, with many pitches having their own tap. Hookups are often 2 or 3 pitches away so be sure to have a good length cable, and a polarity reverser because the live/neutrals are reversed. The site also has a small bar, pool area, playground, petanque (boules) area, ping pong hall and sports pitch.
All the roads/paths on the site are gravel/dust, as is the sports pitch and petanque area. The playground is sand. In the summer, it has visiting food vendors selling a range of food from muscles to pizza. The vendor varies depending on the day. Fresh bread is available daily on site. The pool area is not massive, and you may find that the chairs have all been taken early, but we never found the pools themselves to be overcrowded and we were in them everyday. On cooler (ie still warm for us Brits) days, you could almost have the pool to yourself. As is common, the pools are unsupervised.
It, apparently, has a path to the beach but we never found it, but the beaches are only a couple of minutes drive away, and there is loads of free parking on the dunes. We had young children and temperatures soaring into the 40's, so the drive was the better option for us, but in more sane weather the walk would be easy. It is a 5 minutes drive to the nearest hypermarket and drive up or down the coast and you'll find miles of beaches and plenty to do for all the family.
English is spoken at reception, but that's no excuse for not trying your French :)
I'd give the site 7 out of 10, and wouldn't be unhappy to go pack again.
