I completely agree with the previous reviews. Probably the worst value camp site I've ever used. The only redeeming feature is that it is a nice field in nice surroundings.
£7pp (plus extra for a shower that you wouldn't want to use anyway) The toilet/shower facilities are not only unpleasant, but are bordering on dangerous.
If you want a meal, it is a very long walk to the village of Orton (which incidentally does have great value food), but avoid the breakfast for which they want £8.
Coast to Coasters should plan carefully to avoid getting stuck here!

The worst 'facilities' of any campsite I have ever stayed at, and over 35 years of camping, that's saying quite a lot!
The shower and toilet are poor to the point of being dangerous. No hot water or shower unless you knock on the farm house door and ask for the boiler to be lit.
The boiler is old and should not be installed in a shower room (The sticker on it says so!) and you can see bare flame inside it!
The portacabin housing the shower and toilet is old, damp, rotten, and covered in patches with rough edges. No electricity for lighting
Toilet wobbly, probably not not screwed to the floor.
The price is also very expensive, and it's £1 extra for a shower.
This is a real pity becasue the site itself is in a lovely location and is a gently sloping, well grassed field with beatiful countryside a few steps away.
But on the whole, if you have anything other than a caravan with your own shower and toilet, just avoid.
Verdict? Expensive with shoddy facilities.

Stayed here in June 08 for the first time we have been camping since the birth of our 7 month old son. We want him to have as many happy adventures as we have had camping and I think this was a great start! For us it was an hour from home so handy.
We stayed for two nights. The Farmer's wife booked us in and was very friendly on arrival. We bought fresh eggs from her for breakfast.
The surrounding area is beautiful. It is close enough to the Lake District to visit fot the day. The campsite looks on to the Howgills and is very remote.
The facilities. Well they don't really exist! They were there but the showers were locked off for the 3 days and the toilets were two in one with no lighting! We had the campsite to ourselves for the second night. It was a lovely site but I think it may be a while before we return to it but only because we all like a hot shower!

The area around here is very beautiful. However we could not recommend this camp site. The views and the actual field is very nice. The toilets are two toilets in one, and it is in an old portacabin. There is no lights at night in or outside the toilet. If someone is having a shower, the farmer closes the toilet off - this is not good when the camp site is full. The price is very expensive for what you get and they charge different prices, so get an agreement before you go.
The village is great, with a good pub - doing good meals. The walks in the area are fantastic. Very beautiful country side.
