I've stayed here on many occasions now and with good reason. Claire the owner is friendly and attentive. The site is quiet and there's usually only one other unit there.
The facilities, although basic, are more than adequate for my kind of camping and always clean and in good order. The security gate also provides welcome reassurance.
Despite being so close to a residential area, this is a peaceful location with plenty of wildlife to see. On this visit I watched birds of prey hunting in the field next door, foxes, hares and bats!
I'll definitely be back!

Location fairly remote for those without a car. Lots of good footpaths.
Only major drawback was the enormous number of flies, however being a working farm with livestock, it is appreciated that the problem is unavoidable.
Friendly owners. Facilities clean.

Second visit to this lovely site. Flat field, good sized pitches, lovely and quiet.
Plenty of walks, a great market in Chesterfield.
Avoid the fish and chips in the local chippy, but the Pizzas and Kebabs are great! Clay Cross has a great Nepalese restaurant!
Watch out for the free range Guinea Fowl that wander round!
Minor issue with one unpleasant unit dealt with promptly by the site owner.
Very contented heard of cattle in the adjacent field, Bull, cows and calves all together and obviously well looked after. Delight to see.
Post code doesn't quite lead far enough up the lane, press on!

Lovely quiet site with amazing views.
I didn't need the facilities so can't comment on those.
Very friendly welcome and easy access. Lovely dog walks direct from the site.

Just returned from spending a lovely weekend at Hallgate Farm. Lovely quiet location with nice views to the south, where you can watch the cows in the distance grazing.
There's plenty of other wildlife around including guinea fowl and some spectacular owls out hunting in the evening.
Overall a lovely site with well maintained pitches and open grass area in front of each pitch.
It's definitely on the "Must visit again" list

Loved it here, so peaceful!
Small hard standing area with very generous grass to both sides, all with beautiful views.
Lots of walks and cycles from the door (don’t forget your OS map to plan your routes).
Just one unisex shower (free), toilet and a washing up sink but, because it was so quiet was never a problem and always kept really clean.
Convenience store is approx. 3/4mile in Pilsley village, Fish & chips also do really good pizzas! (deliver to site) and Chinese takeaway. Apparently there is also an Indian takeaway in Clay Cross that delivers.
There is a pub in the village.
Not too far from Matlock, Matlock Bath, Hardwick Hall and other tourist attractions which we cycled to.
£20 per night.

Lovely campsite with great views and lots of walks directly from the farm.
We stayed on a hard standing, but the grass around was mowed and looked neat and tidy.
The toilet and shower block (1 of each, with washing up sink) were clean and roomy, even if unheated.

Very pleased with our stay, very quiet most of the week with just us and one more van.
Large field and a bit concerned with only one loo and shower, but no problem; kept very clean.
Excellent base to visit Chesterfield and lots of the Dales around.
Very good welcome when we arrived.

Making our 3rd visit to Hallgate Farm. As usual Clair & family made us very welcome.
Site peaceful with a generous pith size & lovely West facing views. Large 'family' size shower room, & separate toilet which are kept clean, not easy as we're on a working farm & a grass field.
The previous reviewer must have been unfortunate, as we have always found the camping field very clean.
Many good walks in the area & local shops in the village, & large supermarket /fuel in Clay Cross.
Thank you for another enjoyable stay.
