This site has now closed down, and no longer exists. In it's place a new business has been created, for luxury yurts and cottages. Reviews of the old touring site bear no relation to the new glamping business. You can find details of this site at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/ - search for East Thorne

The facilities are as already described and are extremely adequate. It's a lovely clean site mainly aimed at families. My only complaint is the lack of space. At the beginning of the holiday the site wasn't too busy but by the following weekend the site was full and it felt claustrophobic.
Having 3 young boys that were desperate for somewhere to play football got frustrating. There is a play park for the children but just no other grassy area to play. I felt too many tents were packed onto the site but that might just be our preference for quiet sites.
Price was £13.70 for a large tent, 2 adults and 3 children.

We spent another fabulous weekend there last week. Ok, so the site is basic - just 3 toilets and one shower in the ladies (plus one unisex shower at the back of the block).
There are loads of taps spread out over the site and the grass is always kept short - I hate walking in flip flops through long wet grass! The owner is very friendly and we simply can't fault the site.

We visited East Thorne with our 3 dogs for our first camping experience. What a good choice it was. This is a small, immaculate site with a good road through it and well maintained grass areas.
The toilets and showers were always clean, rather basic but extremely adequate. Taps positioned all over the place! Good wash up room. Would definitely recommend it as a base for touring the wonderful coastline. We'll definitely go again!

We have a semi seasonal pitch on this campsite which is small, family run and friendly. We pay for our pitch while we are there and then pay storage rates when we are not there.
Keith the owner is always up for a chat, keeps the grass well clipped, the toilets spotlessly clean and has just installed a new road through the site.
The hot showers are free, as is the games room which has a pool (40p), table tennis and darts.
They are pretty relaxed about everything really - not too many rules - and the kids can run around between the park and the games room very safely. Its very quiet at night.
The village of Kilkampton is within reasonable walking distance and there is a good food pub there as well as a more down to earth pub. Sandymouth Bay is the closest beach - about a 5 minute drive. Bude is about 10 minutes away. The Lakes is also only 5 minutes away where you can try sailing, windsurfing, etc.
Our only criticism is that it is perhaps a little too quiet and there is no where obvious to walk the dog.

We stumbled across this sheltered site when the one we were booked at was just too exposed and windy to pitch at.
The site is small, which was perfect for our group as we had 7 small children between us and we could see them at all times. We were allowed to just pitch up where ever we wanted as there was plenty of space. This was great as we found a sheltered spot out of the intense wind. Owners were friendly enough, just left us to our own devises which was nice.
The facilities were fine. The toilet block was adequate, clean but perhaps a bit small if they had been packed out. Fine for us.
The park, which looked as through it had just had fresh chipping down was great. A couple of swings, a seesaw and climbing frame slide was just what our kids needed.
There wasn't a shop but the washing machine and dryer were put to good use in the lovely rainy August we've had. The family we're able to freeze our ice packs but this wasn't ideal as then we had to time getting them back with when there was someone in. A freezer somewhere would have been useful.
The site is in a good position for reaching Bude. Which was where we spent most of our time. Great beaches in the sun and swimming pool and indoor play place when raining. We used both! Great pubs in the village with good food and family friendly.
We had a great time at this site, exploring the local area. We'll definitely be going back. Great value for money, at a small, friendly site in a wonderful location.

Just got back from 3 nights at East Thorne. A wonderful location in a very quiet area. Only 2 other units on site most of the time although we did get 2 motor homes on for 1 night and as we were leaving another unit was added but never over full.
Toilet and shower block adequate although had problems turning the showers down (not good when the temp is very hot and you have wet hands!) dont let children in on their own is all I can say! Clothes Washing facilities ok - drier likes money, and there was a small games room which no body seemed to use. They do freeze the ice blocks for you but you have to go to the house and this makes it difficult as when you wisd to exchange or get them back you have to make sure theres someone in. I found the owner to be very sullen (Ken I think his name is) but that may have just been me as I got a very sarcastic comment back when I said that I think his showers were broke cos I couldnt turn them off / down and nearly scolded myself!
Kilkhampton is a very nice and friendly village with shops and pubs. Must try the pub across from the Spar very good portions and the chips are fantastic (sorry cant remember the name maybe the New Inn)!

Small site, but tidy. Toilet block old but adequate. There are only 5 EHU's on site but plenty of water points. There was only one other unit there for the few days we were there so it felt like a rather nice CL. Village of Kilkhampton nearby which has shops and pubs. Do visit the Tamar Lakes signposted near the site as there are lovely walks, shop and picnic tables.

Just returned from East Thorne Touring Park spending 3 nights with the kids there visiting the Gnome Reserve. The site is small, friendly and the toilets are clean if a little old. Showers are great, no money needed to feed them. Just press a button for 10 mins of hot water.
No shop on site but easy to get to village - 3 mins drive or 10 mins walk to shops and local pubs and a fish & chip shop.

August 2004 August Bank Holiday Weekend 2004
We arrived and the rain stopped for just long enough to see that the pitch that was meant for us had standing water on it and there was no way we could've pitched our tent there. The owner came out and was very helpful finding us a drier pitch with the EHU that we had requested.
The site is very level with a little play area in a separate small field. There is no on-site shop but the village of Kilkhampton is only 5 mins down the road with several Co-Op / Spar type shops, pubs and restaurants. The shower / toilet block is old but functional with three toilets and one shower in the ladies and similar in the mens. The hot water is free but the earlier in the morning you shower the hotter the water!
The day we left the weather was gorgeous and we decided to stay on into the evening and there was no extra charge for this but I have to say that the site was not at all busy and I do not know if they would charge for extending your stay beyond midday if they were busy.
We had a lovely 5 days here and are planning another trip next season.
