A large site, mostly statics in a beautiful area. Only 2 other units on site so we had a great choice of pitches.
There were 8 or 10 hardstandings with ehu and a number of grass with ehu. We chose a grass pitch for the better view. The facilities were superb and very clean.
An electronic fob (10 euros returnable deposit) was required to get in.
All the facilities, waste, rubbish and recycling couldn't be faulted. There was a good campers kitchen with all facilities.
The site was extremely quiet ( the very end of the season) and some things like the cafe had closed.
For our stay we can only give top marks, summer and bank holidays may be different.

We had a 1 night stay here over the bank holiday weekend. This is a fantastic site.
I rang to book, I spoke to a very helpful lady who answered all my questions. It was a beautiful drive to the site which was clearly signposted. When we got to the site we were met by a friendly gentleman, he chatted to us and showed us to various areas we could stay. We chose the tent area with the beautiful views of the beach and coastline.
The site was spotless, there is a new fresh toilet/shower block for campers. Beside them was the bin area, which again was spotless, and a campers kitchen with benches and tables which could be used.
On site is a shop with your essential needs, maps, brochures, and a cafe. (We didn't use the cafe, but it looked lovely).
For kids, there was a play park and a football, tennis, games pitch, there was also an inside games room.
The camper van/caravan pitches are well spaced out, giving that feeling of space and their are different areas for tents which also have ehu.
The beach is a lovely 20 min walk away or 5 mins in the car. The beach is a stunning blue flag beach.
This site is fantastic, I will be back soon, we loved every minute of being here, a very pleasant stay.

Outstanding site! The owners were really friendly and went out of their way to help. The site was very well maintained, clean, tidy and safe. There is obviously some improvements going on but they do not hinder the experience.
The views are stunning and the pitches are well spaced. There are electric hookups for tents and caravans.
The shop is well stocked and very reasonably priced, even the novelty items are cheap enough, was able to get bucket and spade for less than 2euro.
The shower block is clean with plenty of hot water and toilet roll. The camp kitchen is fantastic, washing up facilities, and benches so you can cook and eat indoors in wet weather.
There is also a games room to keep the older kids entertained in the rain.
Thankfully we had fantastic weather and were able to spend out days at the beach with a choice of 4 amazing coves to choose from you are guaranteed to find a quiet spot, in fact on the smaller coves there were usually only 2-3 families.
The other campers were extremely helpful as well even passing on tips for dealing with split poles (insulating tape also available in the on site shop)
There is an unofficial 11pm limit on noise although its never really noisy at any time of day even though there are lots of kids having fun.
All in all a fantastic site and we will definitely return.

Well after hearing so much about donegal we decided to give it a go and knowing that we had relatives at this site with a static we thought, why not. Initial thoughts were nice site, and contrary to what others said the owners were very welcoming in fact even went out of his way to thank us for coming up and showed us our spot.
The boys aged 4, 6 and 10 saw the swings and slides and were sold straight away and when they saw the football, tennis, anything else you can kick or use a ball with court right outside the tent they didn't know what to do first. The shower block and toilets were more than adequate and don't forget, if you`re camping any hot water is a luxury.
The shop was well stocked and plenty of info on local activities and the beach was only a 2 minute drive, well worth it too. If you want to swim I suggest the pier hotel beach where the done thing is jumping off the harbour wall into the sea, I took the easy option and was rewarded with lovely clear water which was a pleasure to swim in.
Back to the site, don't expect bingo, karaoke, disco, or any other entertainment, this place is purely to relax with a breathtaking mountain view behind you and the mountains in the distance. The owner is there from 7am until about 9pm and the park itself is quiet from 10pm so keep your voice down. The 3 hour drive from my house was the worst thing about the trip and i`ll be back next year for 10 nights instead of 3.

The best bit about this site is that it's in Donegal. As so many other reviews have said this is a stunning part of the world - the views are terrific.
The site itself is fine although we were completely put off by the owners who seemed to have different reasons for discouraging us everytime we rang to book.
The beach is terrific although difficult to access from the site. Facilities are ok - satisfactory is probably the best word.
With a little investment this could be a great site although the owners need to be more welcoming.

Lovely site, in a fantastic location.
Small number of pitches for motorhomes/caravans, (I'd guess 10, but didn't count them) with concrete hardstandings & grassy areas between pitches. No hedging / bushes.
There is another larger grassy area, in a different part of the site, with an electric hookup point in the middle of it, so I presume that is for tents, but there were none there.
The site itself is quite large, with lots of statics, but didn't feel busy or cluttered.
Very well maintained. Grass areas well mowed & strimmed, nice clean roadways - great for kids on bikes !
Nice kids playground with usual slides, climbing frames, tunnels, etc all within a sandy base. (There did seem to be a lot of small children there without any adult supervision, but then again a lot of the statics are overlooking the play area, so they could have been 'remotely supervised')
Onsite shop seemed to be well stocked.
Owner was a pleasure to deal with on arrival.
Very friendly/welcoming and chatty. (unlike we expected from reading a previous review here!).
Beach was a little too far for walking distance for small kids, but easily accessible by bike/car, and well worth visiting.
We'll be back.

We visited this site just last week when we had one of the hottest days of the year, what a memorable experience. The scenery is breath taking. You have to drive from Rathmullen to Knockalla to experience the view. Apparently this beach was voted the second best beach in the world! (by the Guardian). If you travel from Kerrykeel you don't experience the breath taken view.
Initially the site appears first class, it's a good size, it has a shop, campers kitchen and toilet and shower block. However the owner, (can't remember his name) has the same characteristics as Victor Meldrew! He didn't make us feel welcome at all. We were charged 20 euro for our family tent which was fine but then we were told that there would be no showers the next day because they would be doing some work on the electricity. We were just told this matter of factly, no apology, no discount.
The campers kitchen was clean but all it was was a few sinks. No where to refreeze our ice packs and if there was we weren't told about it. The shower and toilet block was clean but very out of date and in need of a few bulbs being replaced. The bins were really smelly because of the hot weather which wasn't pleasant. There is no direct access to the gorgeous beach, you have to walk which isn't that far but would be much easier if there was a pedestrian walk to the beach as the road is very busy on a good day. The good points about this site are it's quite spacious and the scenery is fantastic.

August 2004 This site was to be the base for our first ever family camping trip in our brand new tent and what an absolute treat! The beach at Portsalon on the North Coast of Co. Donegal was recently voted by the Observer as the 2nd most beautiful in the world (1st place went to the Seychelles) and Knockalla campsite is high on a hill which directly overlooks the beach and the harbour of Portsalon.
The views are totally stunning and the scenery quite breathtaking. We have 3 small children (4, 2 & 1) and so activities for them were top of our list. There is a small playground on the site but this is showing its age and would benefit from a re-fit (although the kids seemed happy enough). As with most places in Ireland you really need the weather to have a ball and we dropped on which meant that the kids could run around to their hearts content. Were it not for this I'm not sure what we'd have done as there didn't seem to be too much going on locally and Portsalon itself is tiny. We spent all day on the beach and had a ball - the sea was crystal clear, the beach was lovely and clean and was patrolled by lifeguards and marked out with flags.
As we were in a tent we had the choice of 2 different fields - one right next to the playground - well sheltered and lovely smooth pitches - or one overlooking the beach - great views but a bit exposed and the pitches were rougher and more uneven (although plenty of spots that were level and just fine). We opted for the field with the views and it was lovely and quiet and lent a more "wild" feel to the weekend.
Facilities on site were also showing their age and the shower block / toilets / campers kitchen could best be described as "functional" rather than pleasant. There was a tap for drinking water at the entrance to our field and the site shop was well stocked and had most things that you could need whilst away. There was also a takeaway restaurant on site which did lovely food at very reasonable prices. There was a games room for ther older kids with 2 pool tables and some video games.
The pitch cost us 17 Euro's a night which was excellent value for money with the current exchange rate on sterling.
The only minor gripe about the site was the lack of direct access to the beach - to get there you had to walk the length of the site to the main entrance and then double-back on yourself using the main access road to the site which had no footpath and looked a bit too risky for us with the little uns - we opted to drive to the beach instead and there's ample parking at the beach with toilet facilities.
All in all a cracking site benefiting from some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen and good value for money - if you get the weather you'd struggle to find a better place for a weekend away.
