This site is overpriced by many standards with regards to the touring & tent pitches. Ground rent for the permanent (static) pitches however is below average. Noise from the A30 (which is right next to the pitching areas) may cause a problem in the day but is virtually non existent at night.
Touring caravan pitches do not all have hardstandings, in fact most are grassed. Most do, however have their own electrical hook-up points. Access to the pitches is controlled by remotely operated barriers, and full-coverage CCTV has recently been installed. The park entrance is tarmac'd, and attractively decorated with brick 'ornaments', however all other tracks are gravel.
Toilet / shower blocks have recently been refurbished to a high standard (early 2008). There is also a children's play area, undercover BBQ facilities, washing room and token-op laundrette, which I am assured now has new machines that actually work! The owners have a comprehensive array of plant vehichles and do all their own groundworks. (they have a dumper truck too if your car gets stuck in the mud!) As per comment above re: vacant caravans, this is down to the fact that many residents of the static park also own units on the touring park, as there is an 11month permitted occupancy period. There are also permanent residents living on the touring park (many of which can be identified as the larger caravans with awnings, or the ones with garden gnomes!)
The surrounding countryside is beautiful by any measure and well worth a look at, and the whole site is surrounded by woodland, including a gravel pathed dog-walk behind the touring site. There are no amenities within 2miles save the local pub, the Howley Tavern; a very popular and hospitable pub / restaurant with outstanding views, adventure playground, pool table & dart board. (Highly recommendable all-round) Other local pubs include the Yarcombe Inn in Yarcombe, the Eagle Tavern on the A303, the Green Dragon in Combe St Nicholas and the Cottley Inn in Cottley. The turning to Fern Animal Sanctuary (1.5miles) is signposted 100yards from the entrance to the park.
The closest town is Chard where you will find all the usual shops, fuel stations, banks, pubs, etc (3.5miles westbound on the A30). Alternatively, Honiton is somewhat further in the opposite direction. There are good links to most of the major local roads, including the A303 and A30 in both directions, and the A358 via Chard.
In conclusion, this site lacks the shops and a bars of larger parks (it used to have the latter) but is otherwise all-together and worthy of recommendation if you are in need of somewhere to stop for a night or two. I give it an all round 6/10!

We stayed here for one night in mid-September 2007. We didn't pre-book and had no problem just arriving and asking to put the tent up. The cost was £11 per night for two adults in a small two man tent on a basic pitch, which we found to be rather expensive compared with other sites we have stayed on.
The facilities are reasonable - toilets, wash cubicles, showers, launderette, washing up room, bbq area, rotary dryers. The decor of the whole utilities block was a bit outdated but everything was perfectly functional. All the taps are of the annoying

We used this site because it was open in winter and has good walking paths all around. The facilities were excellent: clean, with large shower cubicles, ample hot water, and heating timed to switch on morning and evening. Surprisingly at this off-peak time, pitches with electricity were in short supply. Underwealmed by the offer of one right on the entrance, we were given an alternative, but all the others seemed to be taken by (mostly unoccupied) caravans. The large area of grassy pitches doesn't have electricity. The site's on a fast road, so even in a van conversion it was quite noisy, and in a tent we'd have found it a real problem. But if you enjoy walking do come to enjoy the lovely rolling countryside, dotted with mellow stone buildings and unspoiled hamlets.
