Please note this site no longer has any touring pitches. It now has self catering holidays in static caravans to rent.

We stumbled across this site looking at discounted breaks due to cancellations, open to suggestion on locations ? so when it became available at a reasonable price we decided to book it. Initially me the wife a two sons, but my eldest could not get the time off work, so three of us only. We have visited north and south and Brecon and Monmouth areas, so dead centre seemed a good idea. The site is mainly private statics now, with I think three available to hire, one of which we stayed in for four nights. The the accommodation was spotless, everything worked as it should. It is indeed a lovely spot, ideal for people looking for peace and quiet and as a base for visiting the local places of interest. There is a garage and general store and Greggs and cashpoint on the main A470 at the entrance which is useful for basics. When we stayed the weather was not great, very overcast with some rain, but such is the beauty of the surroundings, it didn't seem to matter. The drive from Rhayader to Aberystwyth via the Elan valley is stunning, even on a cloudy day, stopping at Devils Bridge, the climb down and back up is trying, so if you have any health issues it may be an issue ? In all, very pleasant stay, the wardens Oak & Heather were very nice and informative, happy to give advice regarding places to go, fishing, walking, eating. Remember, this is not supposed to be a full on every type of facility available site, its clean, quiet, beautiful and well located, possibly the most landscape photos I have taken in 20 years, 168 ? We will return

Stayed in Oakwood Static Caravan, sited next to the Wardens Caravan, Very comfortable, clean, could not fault. The wardens Oak and Heather were very helpful and gave us plenty of interesting facts and information about the area. Very quiet site even in the school holidays. Lovely circular dog walk to the river from the site, very scenic. Shop, Café and Garage within 5 minutes walk. The Big Breakfast at the Halt Cafe takes some beating. All in all, a lovely small site with excellent wardens and ideally placed for sight seeing in the Elan Valley.

Awful! Storage container for showers! Cramped, cold, dirty. Ideal location for visiting the area. Just an awful caravan park for tourers. Never again.
Washing up facilities open air, no cover. Perhaps they have not noticed it rains in Wales? The managers of the site were helpful and they needed to be, if only to compensate for the dreadful facilities they were prepared to advertise as suitable for caravan tourers.

This site is in a fantastic position with the beautiful river Wye just down through a field. It's mainly statics but there is an area for camping/motor homes with hook up. Water etc all clearly marked. The views all around are glorious and the site is peaceful and relaxing. Great for dog owners but watch out for ticks in the field with the bracken. There is a little area of play equipment for children.
The showers and toilets are basic but kept immaculately clean. The site managers Oak and Heather are so friendly and helpful and nearly always around to answer any questions.
There's no shop on site but a very large shop and cafe attached to the garage 5 mins up the road. The Kite feeding spectacle at Gigrin farm is well worth a visit. Every day at 3pm.
Doldowlod is on the site of an old station and railway line. Railway enthusiasts will be happy to see old carriages.

OMG, this has got to be the worst caravan site ever! The location is great for visiting Rhayader and the surrounding area but that's about the only thing going for it! The shower block is a storage container, with one mens and one womens shower, and were absolutely filthy. The loos were pretty grubby too, and the alleged pot wash (per their website) doesn't exist!
You have to drive across the grass to get to the hard standing pitches, which is a bit bizarre.
The site also won't accept cards or cheques, which is also a bit strange. We paid £16 for one night which was extortionate for the facilities.
Overall, absolutely abysmal.

What a gem of a site! Just spent a lovely weekend at this site which was a great find. Wonderful views, quiet, pleasant wardens all in all a relaxing weekend. Down side, no toilet/shower block but you can manage with on board facilities for a weekend, TV reception non existent (Wales gone to Digital), and Pub at entrance closed (sign says for refurbishment but looks rather permanent!)
There is a service station with Mace Shop within walking distance, and the small town of Rhayader a 10 minute drive. The best dog walk I have found, from one end of the site out along the River Wye and back to the other end of the site, about a mile, our Border Terrier Lottie loved it. Small childrens play area on site, but there was only 1 child in residence on the weekend we were there.
If you like tranquillity, stunning views and walking this is the site for you, we will be going back!

We turned up at this site ad hoc and were pleasantly surprised they could fit us in as it was a weekend. The service from the wardens was very warm and welcoming and they pointed us in the direction of many pitches to choose from and we chose one with a fantastic backdrop of the rolling countryside. There is no toilet block here at the moment but apparently it could be planned for the future. There was a pub down the road but this was closed, a victim of the credit crunch? There is a service station within walking distance with a good shop and café. All in all a great little find and would stay here again.

An old railway station trackbed complete with semaphore signals at the entrance. The views from the pitches across the fields to the hills surrounding the Elan valley are beautiful. The River Wye runs around the fields for about half a mile with seats spaced out alongside for just sitting and taking in the scenery. Otters are said to be in the river. I saw Goosander, Dippers, Kingfishers. What must have been a lovely pub before it was ruined by a pubco is now boarded up and is just outside the site. To make up for it though is a super shop, petrol station and restaurant next door. Handy for the Red Kite feeding centre about two miles away. The area is so green at the moment. Wardens are nice, helpful, people.
Only drawback for some. No toilet block.
