This is a lovely site, with just 15 pitches plus 5 more for tents only in an adjoining small field. The pitches are sandy and firm, of variable sizes, among olive trees which give a mixture of sun and shade.
The washrooms are modern and kept very clean, with toilet seats, paper and soap. A washing machine is available for use. In the high season there's a pool with a small bar, and there are two holiday cottages to rent.
Gary, the owner, is friendly and helpful and works hard to ensure that everyone staying at the site has a comfortable and enjoyable time. He has produced walking maps for the area and for getting around Santo António des Areias, which is a pleasant little town just 15 minutes walk away with shops, an ATM and a small market on Saturdays.
We did some of the local walks and they are very good, with wildlife and varied scenery. The site is in the north of the beautiful Serra de São Mamede national park and close to the historic town of Marvão.
This is one of the nicest campsites we have ever stayed at, relaxed and friendly, and it's deservedly very popular so it would be wise to ring up to reserve a pitch before you arrive.
We paid €16 a night including electricity.

Our second visit to Gary's delightful little site, tucked into an olive grove in this beautiful area. The facilities are immaculate, the water always hot, with a washing machine available.
Prices are very reasonable, with discount for longer stay.
There is a good library of books and films in Reception, sketch maps of local walks and a guide to the bird life that abounds. The quiet lanes are ideal for cycling, too.
Bakery vans call daily except Sunday and fresh farm eggs are on sale.
The village, a 10 walk away, has a small supermarket, an excellent cafe/pizzeria, an evening restaurant, post office, bank with ATM, hairdresser, Saturday morning market, pharmacy etc.
The only downside is the unreliability of the free WiFi internet, but the site is in an extremely rural location and the service may improve in the future.

Booked on the basis of other reviews on this our first visit to Portugal and we were not disappointed. The only reason we moved on was 'cabin fever' after being cooped up in the caravan for two days when the first rain fell in the area for four months. But fully intend to return.
The owner runs a delightful site in a fabulous rural location, ideal for exploring by bike, on foot, or further afield by car. We loved Castelo del Vide and Marvao - so unspoiled, clean and beautiful.
The toilet/shower facilities are stylish, modern and very clean. So civilised to have hand wash and a real hand towel instead of those awful driers. Wifi was a bit erratic and unstable at times, but it was free, so can't complain. Just had to get closer to the router to download my next 'read'!
The pool area though small is clean and tidy. Many of the plastic sunbeds had broken slats, but I dare say that Gary is fully aware of that and intends to replace in time for next season.
All-in-all, this is a perfect relaxing retreat - loved the clear night skies, being able to see the stars, with the sound of cattle bells to lull you to sleep.

Very nice site with friendly owners. Toilets and showers are very new and very clean, everything provided, toilet rolls, soap, even real towels!
Only downside is the barking dogs in neighbouring properties. Very large units may have a problem on local roads.
Local village is an easy walk and all the shops you need are there, we had a really good 'economy lunch' in the recommended cafe for E3. 40 each.
All in all to be recommended.

Stayed on this site for 5 weeks. Gary the owner is first class, very helpful. The site is central for touring the old Portugal. It is clean and well run. Baker arrives daily.
Plenty of walks listed by the owner, you just borrow a copy. Marvao takes between 1hr10min to 1hr 30min walking, a great walk to a lovely village on top of a mountain.
Village is a short walk away with traditional bars and a market on saturdays.

This is a gem of a campsite and is set in a lovely unspoilt part of Portugal, the views are to die for and the backdrop of the hilltop town of Marvao is something else, if you looking for peace and quite this is the place to be.
The owner could not be more helpful and nothing is to much trouble. The reception area is full of local information on walks, where to visit and anything that you need to know and the site also has free Wi-Fi a small swimming pool and also showers and toilets and 15 amp EHU. The local baker calls every morning with fresh bread and there is a small supermarket and petrol station in the village.
If you want to see rural Portugal at its best don't miss this site

This is probably the friendliest campsite I have ever stayed. The owner could not have been more hospitable, and the facilites are immaculately clean. You pitch up in a small olive grove with spectacular views upto the town of Marvao and its medieval castle. This area of Portugal is very spectacular it is a real undiscovered gem. The area and the camp site is fully recommended.
