Run by Hans (Dutch) and his partner Delphine, this is a real gem of a campsite and we received a friendly and helpful welcome right from the start, with a personal tour of the facilities and help in choosing the best available pitch.
Hans speaks at least three languages fluently (Dutch, French and English) and they both run the site with a warm and pleasant touch. The pitches with electric hook-ups run down the centre track and all were generously large, with smaller tent pitches behind hedges either nearer to the river Bonnette, or the road, which was very quiet and never disturbed us.
The whole site is attractively laid out and has a very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. In June when we were there, the newer toilet block at the far end was closed and the unisex facilities in the reception block coped pretty well with the lowish number of people on-site.
Most campers were from the Netherlands and a few from Belgium, which suited us fine as we don't like to hear too many British voices when we're in the middle of France. Almost all were staying in caravans or campervans and we were the only people in a tent apart from the occasional overnight campers in smaller tents.
The bar and restaurant facilities were exceptional and far beyond the usual standard that you might expect to find on a campsite. The main area is under a large canvas structure attached to the building and there are other tables & chairs dotted around outside, under a pergola and on a pretty little raised area above that.
The food was superb and Delphine (who is possibly originally from Mauritius) cooks some very interesting and tasty dishes with a foreign influence as well as a few French classics such as Pave de Boeuf, Kebabs and Moules Frites as well as a local speciality Rougail Saucisse. But the one not to be missed is her Henaritry au Boeuf, which we were told is Mauritian and was absolutely delicious. Needless to say, we ate there several times.
We also ate in the nearby village of Caylus, which has several bars and restaurants to choose from. The unspoiled nature of this mediaeval village was particularly attractive to us. There are two boulangerie /patisseries in the main street and the Petit Casino supplied all the other food and drink that we needed.
We were told that there were several footpaths and shortcuts to the village, but due to a leg injury, we didn't try them. However, I can vouch for the fact that I set off for the village in my car at the same time as a cyclist left the campsite and he was emerging from the boulangerie with his morning croissants just as I was going in!
The main sites of interest nearby have already been mentioned in other reviews and are described on the camp website, but from our experience, we'd say that Cordes-sur--Ciel was too touristy for us and we much preferred the attractive town and ruined fortresse at Najac. We also enjoyed lunch in the town of Laguépie, which sits at the confluence of the Viaur and Aveyron rivers and which we discovered by accident.
You can go down some steps and walk along the river bank there. If we'd stayed longer, we'd have ventured further afield to Albi and Cahors, but since we've been to both before, we stayed more local on this trip.
We really enjoyed our stay at Camping de la Bonnette and we'd definitely return if we were in the area again.

Used this site for a one night stopover and we had emailed to book. Hans (the owner) had said that booking was not necessary in September so we just turned up. There was a sign saying that any arrivals had to ring him, which we did, and he told us to pitch anywhere we wanted and he would find us later. We paid him when he arrived (he speaks excellent English) and asked about the restaurant (as the bar, restaurant, reception area had looked well-equipped when we arrived). Unfortunately, Hans told us that, because he had been so busy over the previous 2 nights (apparently lots of locals come to the site to eat) that he had decided to take the night off and so the restaurant would be closed that night. He did offer to telephone to make us a reservation to eat at the hotel in town (which was very kind) but we told him that we would explore.
The unisex toilet & shower block was very clean and had toilet seats and toilet roll which was a bonus.
There is a three minute short-cut walk to the beautiful town of Caylus with its quaint Medieval buildings & church, so we were actually glad we had taken the time to explore. It was raining and so, had the site restaurant been open, we might not have ventured out. We ate at the brilliant Salon de The, which is a small pizza & burger eaterie run by two young men who were both charming. I practiced my French and had the best burger I have ever eaten!
All in all, despite the rain, we had a great stay in Caylus and would recommend this site and will be using it again ourselves.

It is a small and pretty site on the banks of what is normally a small river just outside a beautiful but gently decaying medieval town.
We stayed there one night in the pouring rain with the stream bursting its banks and pools of water on most of the pitches.
The pitches are grassy and flat with a fair amount of shade.
The toilet blocks were adequate, but being at both ends of the site, could be quite a long way away.
There isn't a shop, but the cafe/bar is good and the owner (Dutch) is very friendly. It's only a short walk into town - restaurants and several boulangeries etc.
There's not much for children.

Mature middle aged reviewers
As mentioned in the previous review the site is very well cared for and is in a beautiful area within walking distance of a medieval village. There are many places to visit; Albi (wonderful place well worth the trip), St Antonin Noble Val, Villefranche de Rouergue.
We visited in the middle of the summer holidays and the site caters very well for children, with a playground and trampoline. We probably would not go again at this time as the children were left to do as they pleased even at 10pm.
A bread lady visits each morning but there is a small supermarket in Caylus, which stocks most provisions. There seemed to be entertainment each week and the food was of good quality. We thought that wifi was quite expensive, something in the region of 20 euros for the week, we paid 10 euros for 7 hours.
We would stay at this site again if in the area.

This is an lovely, peaceful campsite next to the river Bonnette and within walking distance of the small Mediaeval town of Caylus, and in an area of outstanding beauty. My wife and I had intended to stay for 2 nights but found it hard to leave because it's such a beautiful place and ended up staying for a week. Hans and his wife are the lovely Dutch owners. Mainly Dutch caravanners while we were there and another British couple but everyone so friendly you were made to feel at home. Immaculate toilet and shower facilities, small bar serving great food in the evening. Fantastic swimming pool. No shop on site but there are shops and take-aways in Caylus. This is a real gem and we will definitely go back there again.
