Stayed here with a friend as an overnight stop on the way home.

Not my usual type of site, I would usually go for something a bit more remote with less facilities and therefore fewer other people, but then I'm into camping, not mountain biking.

The location is not far from the M4, so was ideal for our overnight stop on the way home. It took us about 20mins to get on the motorway when we left. The site is easy to find as the mountain bike centre is signposted. It's not exactly a rural setting but you can see the steep sides of the valley which give a bit more of a countryside feel.

The site is right behind the visitor centre/cafe/bike shop etc. So there's little sense of 'getting away from it all' but all the facilities you could need are right there. Including a bike wash for muddy wheels.

There are two coin operated showers in the toilet block. Nice and clean and well stocked. Although trying to shower while others are using the toilets in the morning might be a little unpleasant!

There are indoor washing up sinks which are also well kept.

There is some exercise equipment, but it is on pitches so you would only really want to use it if you were on those pitches or they were vacant at the time. It looked to me like it would be in the way if you were using those pitches.

The pitches are all marked out, a bit small and too close together for my liking but as I said, I would normally choose a very different type of site (a field to myself with a tap in it). They are all flat and mown though, which is nice. We were allocated a pitch before we arrived but as the site wasn't full there was no problem with us choosing another spot, further from our neighbours.

It was very quiet in the evening, despite the amount of people in a small area. I think everyone retired to their tents early to hide from the midges and get a good night's rest for a day of mountain biking the next day. I think we were the only people not there for the biking trails. There seem to be several that start from the site, so it really is a mountain bikers' playground.

I was expecting to pay £5 each per night, so was a bit miffed when we were charged £7 each but perhaps I didn't do my homework as this was a last minute booking.

We didn't try the food in the cafe but it smelled pretty good.

Overall, if you want somewhere to sleep and eat in between riding the trails, this place works.

Nice basic site. We were there as it was the base for a mountain bike race my son was in. Normally race venues have a tap & a chemical toilet but this was a pleasant step up from that. Our reserved pitch was clearly marked with a sign bearing our name - handy as a late arrival. The facilities were spot on - toilets, showers & wash-up room. The toilets can get muddy as used by mountain bikers so take a positive attitude & sandals. The showers were free. Great cafe attached for reasonable food & chilling. The police patrolled when we were there - reassuring. Probably because they were expecting a lot of high value bikes to be on site. If you're into your mountain biking this is a great site.

We stayed here with our son and daughter in law who do mountain biking as dog sitters while they cycled, the site was very well kept, clean and nice named pitches with hook up. The site is in a lovely position right below the mountain and has 3 good fishing lakes with day tickets (trout), I found the facilities to be clean and well looked after although I didn't shower as we were only there for a night my son and partner did and said you did need to be quick as the showers are on a strict timer but for £5 per person and no charge for the dogs its very good value. Even though there was a cycling competition that Sunday the site wasn't full and wasn't noisy, there are also some permanent things to use for fitness which did look fun, you can walk straight onto the mountains and cycle on a nice family path down the valley, all in all we had a lovely weekend.

If you like Mountain Biking, Fishing or Walking, then this is the site for you. It is situated at the Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre. Toilets are clean and spacious. Showers (£1 token for 4 mins) There is also washing up facilities and chemical toilet disposal. Pitches are quite close together, but it does give you that communal vibe. Six pitches have electrical hook up. A café is on hand, serving meals & drinks.

For the two of us, it cost £20 for two nights, hard standing, with hook up. There are also exercise machines on the grass, to keep you in trim ! Really enjoyed stay, with scenic views all around.

Have stayed at the ponds a few times it is ideal for heading out to the trails mountain biking.

The site is basic, but facilities are usually clean, the showers are £1 for 4mins, so you have to be quick, get everything ready before putting the token in and then don't hang about, not always the best but its turns into a bit of a game and creates a few laughs.

The on site cafe is great it serves good food and portions are huge, also serves bottled beer which is welcome after 7hours of cycling.

The owners/staff are always polite and make you feel welcome and are always chatty and helpful.

The only downside to this visit was the mossies, they were everywhere and biting the life out of us. There are washing up facilities but for a few days stay could do with a bit of a laundrette.

£5 per night per person so good value.

Went to Glyncorrwg Ponds for the end of May bank holiday weekend. Literally poured from Friday night through to leaving Monday morning, not that a site can be blamed for inclement weather - but the site doesn't drain very well so everything was saturated and big pools outside the tents.

The people were lovely, and the only saving grace about the place. I believe the cafe has recently changed hands and while it used to be fantastic sadly is a shadow of its former self (I don't have first hand experience, that's what the friends I was with tell me - however I didn't find the cafe that inviting and the range of food on offer was quite limited).

Worst point were the toilet and shower facilities. They were clean for about 5 minutes after they had been cleaned (once a day), the rest of the time there was so much mud in there (not just on the floor, around the sinks too) we might as well have be walking in a field. Also the gents showers are now £1 while the ladies showers are 50p. Not that you get anything for your pound, the water literally trickled out of the shower head (so I had to press my head to the wall to get any water on my hair) and it was cold - not even lukewarm!

Great location, poor execution.

It hailed, snowed, the sun shone and it rained. But we had a great weekend!

Apart from being bitterly cold, the setting made up for it.

For my first mountain biking experienced, I felt the trails were a little too advanced for me (partner held back this info!)

Relaxed atmosphere, adequate pitches.

With like minded people, all eager to get on the trails, the campsite worked really well, noise to a minimum (early starts!).

The bar/restaurant was a lifesaver! spent most evenings there warming up and food was great, very generous portions!

And the staff were always friendly.

And Facilities clean!

Walked down to the village and spent a lovely evening in the pub.

I would def return to this site - once I've improved on my mountain biking skills! :-S

We booked this site primarily for the proximity to the mountain bike trails in Afan Argoed. However, we also used Cwmcarn and Brechfa, each about an hours drive from Glyncorrwg Ponds.

When we arrived on Saturday the site was busy and the pitch we had been allocated was too small. However, the site staff were obliging and allowed us to move to a more suitable pitch.

On our new pitch we had plenty of space for our Hartford XL and two cars. As I pitched our tent I was cursing the hard, stony ground and although I managed with the standard pegs, rock pegs would have been better.

The weather was predominately wet and windy with strong gusts during two nights. The site is quite exposed to the high winds but due to the stony ground, the pitch drained quickly and the tent stood firm. On the two days of good weather, the breeze dropped and the midges returned. These are incredibly annoying and we found it too uncomfortable to sit outside the tent, which was a shame.

The facilities are adequate if rather basic. The wash room has a couple of basins for washing crockery etc. And one for clothes. There is a fresh water supply and a chemical disposal facility, for those that require one. There appeared to be a small number of EHUs although we didn't use these.

The facilities are cleaned once a day in the early evening and this was sufficient during the week when the site was quiet but during the weekends, the toilets and showers became very wet and muddy.

The onsite Skyline cafe staff were happy to freeze our ice packs free of charge and also allowed us to store our bikes indoors, giving us some security and piece of mind during the evenings. The staff at the site and the cafe seemed friendly.

In the nearby villages there are small general stores and a Post Office and within a 10 minute drive there is a large Tesco for all the usual supplies.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay despite the poor weather.

Travelled down on Friday night and due to traffic on the M6 I arrived at 11pm so it was dark when I got there. They had marked out where we were to camp which was very helpful at that time. It rained all weekend and we still had a fantastic time. The campsite is next to a cafe which officially closes at 10pm, but we were there till after 11pm sheltering from the weather. The food was fantastic so we didn't need to worry about cooking. The showers are 50p for two minutes and they were plenty warm enough. The toilets were always clean, impressive considering it was so muddy and they never ran out of toilet paper. There was a washing up area with sinks for dishes and clothes.

We choose the site for the location in Afan forest and it was spot on, I hate driving to get to trails so having them on the doorstep was great. Given the weather the ground was not too wet and seem to drain well. Although there was plenty of room when we were there I imagine you have to ensure you book in advance in the summer as it is such a good location.

I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely be back, be warned apparently there are a lot of midges usually, I think the rain kept most of them away.
