This is a very nice site set in a forest right by the sea, the toilets/showers are very clean, as are the washing up and clothes washing facilities, the pitches are flat and have water and electric, the site shop is well stocked and you can get fresh bread daily, 50yards outside the site is a nice bar/restaurant food and drink very reasonable and staff very friendly. Just across the road from the bar is the beach, this is long and sandy, as it's so flat here it is wheelchair/mobility scooter friendly also easy cycling, the small town is about 1 1/2 miles away, you can easily walk/cycle this as it is flat with a purpose built cycle lane (along the promenade), although not the first 1/4 mile this is a little bumpy, the only down side was the pollen off the fir trees their was a lot, we would go back.

Our First visit to this site, we were impressed with the ease of finding it.
A very simple check in, find a pitch and let the reception know which one you are on. No leaving of passports and pay when you leave.
The site is compact, yet you don't feel on top of one another, very tight access to pitches, a motor mover comes in as an essential piece of equipment. The site is beneath very tall trees, offering shade. The only negative we found was that the pitches were dusty, like a dirt track, so when it rained it was extremely muddy.
The facilities were clean but basic, plenty of toilets with loo roll, and showers, awful push on buttons but you get used to it in France.
Wi-Fi charged at 5 euro per day, but it would not work and we were unable to obtain a refund.
The site has a good shop, which is reasonably priced. The bar area is also nice and friendly, again reasonably priced. The pool area was lovely and provided sunbeds.
The site has two areas separated by a road, with direct access to the beach. We paid with camping cheque so were on the side without beach access, for an extra charge we could have been over the road, but we were happy with where we pitched.

Once again at Boise Soleil. I reviewed last year. Once again the site doesn't disappoint.
We explored the area a bit more as it was cooler this year generally, although the middle Sunday was 40 degrees.
The weather here is generally good in June. I would say the site is very different now to July and august, it is very laid back and easy going just now, but I suspect that the place gets out of 2nd gear and into 4th for when all the families are here.
We are paying £14 a night with camping cheques the current price is about £25 a night retails and in high season it's £40 a night so there is going to be a change for that price in what's happening.
The sea is once again great, quite warm enough to swim in, not so murky and muddy this year, a few more rollers. I had my kayak this year and had great fun exploring the coast, , it is very interesting going south past the old German defences of massive guns placements etc.
There is lots to do in this area, we have been to cognac which is about an hour away, today going to La Rochelle with it's aquarium etc and ancient port.
There are few toll roads to get to this site from the north opera such as Cherbourg and St Malo.
We found another huge supermarket as well as Eleclerc, and Intermarche Hyper, both within ten minutes, there are other shops too, so anything you could possible want is catered for.
We had a puncture on the way down, got that fixed at a tyre place in ten minutes so no drama there.
Generally at this time the site is quiet but there are sometimes people leaving about 7am etc to get a good start, it's not too bad

Just returned from here for our main hols this year, without the kids.
I have a 22ft twin axle swift and did manage to get it on one of their 'larger' pitches although here are others which are slightly larger but easier to get on, apart from that, although it was no problem to me, this site is fantastic. I could not recommend it more.
The toilets are cleaned 3 times a day and they are always clean when I used them, we showered at least twice a day and I used the toilet, after all I have to empty ours!
In June the site is peaceful and full of brits and dutch taking advantage of the camping cheque deal.
Access tot he beach is great. The beach looks lovely and its great to swim in as its quite warm bearing that in mind remember this is an estuary entrance and there was a bit of mud at low tide at about 3 feet depth, but it didn't cause a problem to me, I was more interested in the fact I could swim in the sea without a wet suit.
The pool area is immaculate, as is the adjoining bar, restaurant. There is a hot shower for the pool and toilets.
The site has its own small supermarket which is closed from 12.30 to 16.30 but open later, it has everything you would need but obviously shopping there is expensive, the most use it has is for bread and last minute beers etc. Also pick your bbq food here, but again dearer than eleclerc etc.
A choice of large supermarkets in the area all within a short drive.
The staff are very efficient, and as long as you use a good manner and polite you can usually get what you want as this can be a busy site and I guess they can get stressed like any warden.
There is a laundrette on site but expensive a wash token is 5e.
We had uninterrupted sunshine for our 2 week stay but like anywhere the weather is variable.
There are endless places to visit nearby and endless beaches once you travel north 5 miles you are out of the estuary and into proper sea, st palais is a great beach and free to park, as are most places, the zoo at palmyre is good, la rochelle and cognac is well worth a visit.
Most pitches are a little restricted on size I have to say, you cant spread yourself out, but it is a very nice place to be

The camp is set in pine forests and very well laid out. There is a good shop, a pool, play areas, and restaurants, and the stunning beach is right on the doorstep, literally 20m from some pitches. Most pitches are of a good size and well established with hedges between each.
The staff are friendly, and there are several restaurants and shops on the doorstep.
St Georges de Dinonne is a 20 min walk along the beach. Unfortunately when we went 2nd / 3rd week in June there wasn’t much on, and the town was very quiet in the evenings. I would recommend you go a few weeks later for the nightlife.
The campsite was busy, we got the last pitch available that day, so booking is advisable.
The local area is fantastic, with Talmont, Meschers, and other stunning villages a short drive away, and the cognac towns are about 45 mins drive away.

Excellent site and still busy in September, so best to book. Pitches are large with water and electric hook ups.
Toilet blocks are immaculate and all facilities still open, bar, restaurant, supermarket, etc.
Beach is also excellent and dogs are allowed on the beach after 15th September.
St George is a stroll away along the beach and is a typical small French town

We have been to this site many times, and found it to be very good.
We first went some 15years ago, always in June. We found the site to be quiet mainly used by english ,dutch and french.
The staff are very good, we have not found problems with noise at any time, The site has improved steadily over the years with the addition of the pool and new restaurant.
The beach is clean and only once found the sea murky, due to a low tide.
The area is very pleasant with a vist to the old gun postions and napoelonic fort an easy walk up the cliffs.
The local village is very good and is great to spend time having a coffe in the market place.
We are going again this year after a couple of years break, can't wait.

We stayed in this campsite for two weeks, last week of July/first week of August 2007 – one rather large tent, 2 adults and 3 kids (aged 17, 10 and 5). We chose the site because of 4 main points: close proximity to a beach, a swimming pool, a children’s play area and a 4-star rating.
On the first point we were not to be disappointed, we could practically fall out of bed and onto the beach – this site is literally smack bang on the beach at St. George de Didonne. A large and lovely beach, sea is a bit murky but I am assured that this is due to it being on an estuary and the water is therefore cloudy.
The site itself lives up to it’s 4 stars, although we felt somewhat misled by the map available on their website – it does not make clear that the 3 ‘parks’ – Parc ‘Les Pins’; Parc ‘La Mer’ and Parc ‘La Foret’ are 3 very distinct areas and not just sections on one big site. We stayed in ‘La Mer’, on a large if rather odd shaped pitch, entitled ‘Royan’. The pitch was long and narrow and it was a bit of a squeeze trying to fit our large Khyam XXL Excelsior plus annexe onto the pitch comfortably and in a sensible position – we managed it eventually, just! But beware those of you wishing to camp here with a large tent, make sure the campsite is aware of the dimensions of your tent as some pitches were quite small. On the upside it was a caravan pitch, which had electric hook-up and (shared) water and drainage close by.
Another feature that the website does not make clear is that there is a main road (the main road from St. George to the next village, Mechers) running between La Mer and Les Pins and that the children’s play area is therefore situated on the other side of a very busy main road. There is a tunnel under the road linking the sites, but you have to walk quite a long way to it on one side of the road, and then back again on the other side. As a result we only visited the play area once during our holiday. The map also promised a play area on Parc ‘La Mer’ which turned out to be only a small roundabout – which our kids were very disappointed with.
On the upside, the staff are absolutely wonderful – very, very helpful and friendly (especially Tirza and Bianca), toilet and shower facilities were very clean (cleaned almost continuously all day from 8am-8pm) and the site itself was very well presented. The pool was very nice but be warned they do not allow board-shorts in the pool – speedos only – which was interesting! There is also a nice café/bar area and regular entertainment which was pretty unobtrusive if you weren’t interested. Parc La Mer is also going to have a new toilet/shower block by 2008, which is great because there were not enough British style toilets – only 3 currently, so that will be a great improvement.
There are also coin operated washing machines and a tumble dryer. Visitors to the campsite seemed to be predominately Dutch, with a smaller number of French and some British too.
Now to the major downside – although the site itself was quiet and on the whole the campers were all quiet by 11:00pm, the area surrounding the site was very noisy. There is a privately owned bar on the little road that runs between La Mer and Les Pins and that had live music and karaoke sometimes until 1.00am – thankfully not everynight. However, where we were camped there was a lot of noise from the road, and late night visitors to the beach walked or drove down a small track running along the back of the site. They were not quiet, and we were woken practically every night from about 12:30am until 2:00 or 3.00am, by people shouting, laughing, singing and revving their cars. Some mornings this went on periodically until 4.00! We complained and the Bois Soleil staff gave us the telephone number of their night watchman, who would come and move on anyone making noise. However, most of the time the noise was over before we could alert the guy – but of course by then we were awake, and by the time we had settled down again, somebody else would wake us.
We didn’t manage to have a whole nights sleep in nearly 14 nights – they still managed to wake my husband when he was wearing earplugs! So beware – if you book this site try and get a pitch away from the main road. We camped with two other families, one of whom fared slightly better as far as noise was concerned but who also suffered from a smaller than desirable pitch.
Royan and St. George de Didonne were absolutely delightful and we loved the area – there is so much to see and do, that we only scratched the surface when we were there. We would definitely go back to the area, but on balance would probably give Bois Soleil a miss.
