Excellent quiet campsite with stunning views. The air is a tad cooler than lakeside and it has amazing sunsets and sunrises. There are trees for shade and hammocks. Clean toilets and showers. Family run and a wee shop.
It's 5-10mins drive to Talloires and a bit longer to Thones. Best place for a late PM dip is just after Talloires the road drops, park parallel to the cycle lane.
The family has young kids and are happy for kids to be about. The cattle are friendly too at the end of the site.
You are close to Alpine attractions and it's far enough away from the road to not disturb sleeping. With a caravan, avoid Annecy and the traffic calming along the lakeside by coming in directly to Thones off the Autoroute then turning right into Alex.

This is a lovely campsite, up in the mountains about 10km from Menthon St Bernard on Le Lac d'Annecy. It's a quiet farm site which seemed a world away from some of the more commercial sites around the lake.
Initially we were concerned that our small children would miss the swimming pool and liveliness of the lake site we had been on for the previous week, but this was more than compensated for by the acres of space they had to run around and play in. Indeed, we had the top field to ourselves, whilst other tents and caravans were scattered around in the lower field. There was plenty of room for everyone (this was in the third week of August).
The owners were charming and helpful despite my pitiful French; it's amazing what you can convey with a bit of mime sometimes. There are basic provisions available at the reception, although the nearest supermarket is probably the Carrefour at Thones, around 5 miles away (unless I missed a nearer one somewhere). The village of Alex is short walk up the road but as the previous reviewer said, you will need the car for anything more demanding than watching the cows in the nearby fields (though that was excitement enough for my children on the first night). There is a small playground with a couple of swings, climbing frame and so on, but as mentioned earlier I would look elsewhere if you want a 100 metre water slide and sauna.
The toilet block was kept very clean; the water for the showers always warm whenever we used them (the water buttons could do with a longer timer though; my hand got tired having to push them every ten seconds). Bring your own toilet paper to avoid disappointment.
I couldn't end the review without mentioning the views from the site; dramatic mountains and soft green valley rolling down in the direction of Alex. At sunset we would sit outside the tent and watch as the shadows moved over the mountains, changing the colour of the rock from white to pink and then grey as night fell.

Stayed on this site for 11 days, perfect for us, loads of room, 50 50 between caravans and tents. Site has shop on site selling basic needs, for nightlife and supermarket you will need a car. Wonderful views all round, you can watch daft folk jump of mountains, with a table cloth and float down to earth. Owners don't speak English, we tried shouting and that didn't work so went back to point and smile! If you are in a tent or don't want hook up try the area on the left of the white road in the picture on their website, the best spot is if you go straight to the end of the campsite you will find a little "corral" area, great views down the valley, but the regulars know about this, and makes this spot popular. If you go in July don't miss the celebration of the firemen in Thones. Would go again, nuff said.
