I stayed with my family of five people in one of the chalets (the bronze option e. G. Basic), which comprised of 2 double rooms, a kitchen cum sitting room/diner, and a bathroom. A double sofa bed was also in the sitting room.
I would stay that while the chalet was very basic, it was (fairly) clean and comfortable, with most basic amenities provided including cooking facilities, hot water, heating, electric and so forth.
Whilst I am saying that our accommodation was basic, various packages are available from bronze to platinum standard with differing types of accommodation and extra facilities etc. Obviously you pay more for the better appointed chalets and lodges.
There is also the option of inclusive dining (which we didn't take) and a flexi package where you could choose to pay for two meals or more and take them at any time during your stay. I therefore can't comment on the standard of food but a quick glance at the restaurant menu showed things like carvery, burgers, snack meals, kids meals and so forth. I think their takeaway offers the same menu.
Of the other facilities, there was a pool with mini Jacuzzi, changing rooms, lockers and an outdoor area which would be nice in pleasant weather. A small playground with a climbing frame, sandpit and swings is next door. An arcade with slot machines and games to play suitable for young children backs on to the pool area. Bowling and also a soft play area(for small children)is available.
There are two bar areas serving alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and club Tropicana with daily evening entertainment. I went one evening with my daughters and while it is mostly bingo and bingo type games, it seemed quite fun. Loads of kids were there. And finally, there is a convenience store with basic groceries, a change machine and a cash point.
Outside of the complex, there is a regular bus that take you to Brixham itself so you can wander around the shops. The harbour area is quite pretty. There is a number of tourist shops as you much expect and if you like ice cream, there are at least four parlours in the harbour area. In a fishing village, you would expect decent fish and chips and seafood places to eat. 'Simply Fish' restaurant and takeaway is highly recommended. We bought very excellent fish and chips from there and also sampled some of their more exotic fare including tempura squid.
I should also mention the coastal walks, which are lovely. You could create a whole holiday around them and walk for miles. But with small children we could only manage short walks. The only small disappointment was that the beach was down a cliff face, which, with small children wasn't easy to get to. It's a good twenty minute walk to get there carrying buckets and spades and other gear.
But as the site website mentions, there are lots of activities and places to visit, including nearby Dartmouth, Paignton Zoo, boat and train rides to Totnes, Torquay beach and much more.
While there is a lot to recommend this place, especially if you have young children, it is probably fair to say that it isn't as deluxe as the blurb would have you believe and the evening entertainment (in my opinion) pretty limited. However, it is inexpensive to stay there (we did a Sun deal) and it is fine for a no frills break.
