Just returned from 4 nights at this site. The views are superb and except for sat night we had the field to ourselves.
The toilet and shower are very clean and the shower is easy to work and gives constant hot water without fluctuating.
The field however is very sloping and although I had read the reviews saying so we were not prepared for how sharp the slope was. We had to jack the van up to fit the leveller under the wheel! The field was covered in goose droppings and we had to take take not to take any into the van.
I would not visit this site again.

Visited this site because of it's location and the fact it is a caravan club cl site so reasonably priced.
It is sloping as we expected and if you are thinking of going here don't think there may be an odd flat spot for your unit!
The view from any part of the camping field is superb and the facilities for a cl site are great - one toilet and one shower - regularly cleaned and supplied with toilet roll and soap.
You will need to drive to shops etc. But the site is ideally situated for access to white peak walking and visiting Matlock, Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Crich.
We are two adults and two small kids (2 and 3) and we would recommend walking - froggat edge, Lathkil dale, Chatsworth (only for a walk as we found entry, even to the gardens alone extremely expensive) and for visiting - tramway museum, Matlock Bath, Matlock park where there is a great water park for small kids.

Beautiful position & views from this site. The field slopes and may be a problem for motor homes if you don't get first choice of the pitches near the road which are a little flatter and we did not try to drive to the water tap which is half way down the very steep field. Caravans seem to have more adaptability to the slope. If you can get yourself level and have enough water for your stay or a water carrier, a motor home, will be fine and the south facing site gets sun from dawn til dusk. There is one toilet and one shower which were fine. The owners are lovely and friendly. Plenty of things to do nearby. Lovely area.

Had to reply here, as we have been visiting this site since it opened some years ago and now class the Barratts are friends of ours. Please firstly remember, this is a CL, that said all they have to offer is, fresh water, chemical disposal and rubbish disposal. This site has a shower which is always very clean and available 24/7, a separate toilet and the use of the indoor heated swimming pool, where there is another toilet and 2 more showers. Yes you do sometimes have to share the pool with visitors to the cottages or the local swimming club, but you are not paying extra for this, and the owners don't have to offer it to us. The field does slope as already mentioned, but if its a problem either Tony or Paul will be pleased to help you. Both families whose own homes are on site are very friendly and helpful. Yes their dogs do wander up but again they are very friendly, please remember these dogs live here, it is their home and we are using their home. You can roam in any of the adjacent fields freely. There are also two washing machines and two tumble driers that are available to caravanners and visitors to the cottages, for a very modest sum. There are also books, games and dvds should you be the sort who can't live without the TV. There are 6 electric points around the field. All in all a real gem of site, and as far as we are concerned the fewer people who know about it the better!

Also had to put in a review to say that this site is a little gem, yes it slopes but the view is lovely, minimal facilities but didn't bother us.
There was a bit of an overlap with one caravan extra but it was only for a day and it was Easter. There was a tent whilst we were there, small gripe they had a dog that they let wander but then the farm dog kept coming over anyway, (one of my niggles).
The pool is excellent and we were the only ones in it for most of the time.
It's a nice walk over the fields to the village pubs (uphill coming back).

We felt compelled to write after reading the other two reviews which we felt gave a very unfair picture of a fab place.
We use a touring caravan, & after discovering Moor Edge Farm in Spring 2005 have visited repeatedly. In fact if you ask our youngest 3 children where they would like to holiday the answer is always a unanimous MATLOCK! Meaning this particular site.
OK, this is quite a sloping site, but the fact that it's so high up is all part of its charm, giving amazing views accross the valley, with Riber castle a sillouette on a distant hill. On sunny evenings, sit back & watch the hot air balloons drift past-wonderful. Also it's hysterically funny watching our children & any others who always join in-playing football on a slope. They certainly get more than thier fair share of fresh air, excercise & then hopefully, sleep. The slope does put some people off, we've watched units pull on, take a quick look & pull off again, all of which is very frustrating for the Barratts, as another family could have used that booking. If you are in any doubt, Mr Barratt will always help tow you to where you want to pitch with his 4X4! Just ask. He has also ensured a plentiful supply of blocks around the outside of the pitch to help with levelling. All a case of practise makes perfect I suppose, but well worth the effort.
Includes electric hook-up, so no messing about with batteries!
In answer to tents being allowed on site? Yes, we've seen one, ours. A small pup tent we asked permission to use next to our caravan when our grown up son came away with us. We've never seen any others though.
Too many vans over the 5 limit?? Again, only if a family has asked to keep a van on site to allow for that extra few hours at the end of a holiday, to give a full day before heading home-overnight-no!
Yes, there is only one loo, & separate toilet, but we've always found these perfectly adequate & clean, with a plentiful supply of hot water & loo roll. This is only a CL, many don't even boast a loo, & most modern vans have toilet & shower facilities, we think this is absolutely fine. If you want 5 star all singing all dancing superpitches, try elsewhere & expect to pay through the nose. If you want clean, friendly, quiet(save the odd kids game!)in gorgeous surroundings, complete with pool-this is just the job.
The icing on the cake has to be the wonderful indoor heated pool, which is free to caravan site users. Open from 10am-8pm daily, this is always a huge hit with our family. Despite the fact that there are also a couple of holiday cottages on site, we have very rarely had to share the pool, enjoying almost always private pool time. In fact our 7 & 9 year olds would love to find more children there to play. Complete with another loo & great shower facilities this is just brilliant.
The surrounding area is wonderful. Coming from mostly flat Lincolnshire, we adore the rolling hills & gorgeous scenery. The locals are very friendly, with plenty of little tearooms & cafes in both Matlock & particularly Matlock Bath.
There is a huge shiny new Sainsburys store in Matlock, which is great if you like it, we prefer the smaller just as good Somerfield-love thier French bread.
Fancy a takeaway? Head for the Chinese in the little street between Woolworths & the CO-OP, it's great tasting, great value food. Highly recommended. Parking there can be a problem. We generally order, then walk back to the car, hubby drives round, I leap out, grab the takeaway & we head back to Moor Edge. It's always piping hot-no reheating required!
Got kids with you?? Gullivers Kingdom is an absolute must see. Not the cheapest day out, but if you pack a picnic & go for the whole day you will certainly get your moneys worth. If you can, leave the pushchair in the car, & encourage your toddler to walk, as Gullivers-like most places in the area, is built into a steep hillside. You'll be heartilly sick of pushing a buggy, & your little one should sleep like a log after all that exercise. Matlock boasts the brilliantly maintained Hall Leys Park. Something for everyone. Swings/slides/paddling pool for the tinies, tennis courts/skateboard park/pitch & putt golf for big kids. A tea rooms, pretty gardens, miniature railway & boats on the pond on Sundays(other days too during summer I think)all with the river running by-brilliant. Matlock Bath has the Lovers walks. Again, like Matlock, all newly refurbished. Head behind the mining museum for access. There are younger kiddies play parks on both sides of the river, including a fab new wooden 'pirate ship' on the far side, which can also be accessed over the Jubilee bridge.
The heights of Abraham is another must see, take a picnic for the day & enjoy-we go at least twice a year. The walk between Matlock & Matlock bath is a lovely slow 20 minute stroll with little ones in tow, or park halfway in the riverside carpark & walk the rest. Be carefull though. This is a very busy road, which in the height of the summer is heaving. We had to brake suddenly on the drive through this last weekend, as a canoe club meet was on, meaning there were a lot of extra cars & people, & children who thought nothing of running straight across the road without looking !
If you like quirky little shops, handmade chocolates & fudge(and lets face it who doesn't!) then you'll love Matlock Bath. On Sundays-when the sun shines particularly-it is also an absolute Mecca for Motorcyclists. Please don't be put off. In all our visits we've never seen an accident, or heard a cross word, far from it, they are polite in the extreme, always moving out of the way of the pushchair & happy to answer questions on the amazing artwork on some of thier bikes-which are quite clearly works of art.
Fancy venturing further afield?? Theres loads more! Crich Tramway Museum, The Stepping Stones at Dove Dale, Bakewell (great park, great market, great tarts!). Pay the tourist information a visit for loads of leaflets & ideas !
The only downsides I can think of are very few. The lane to the swimming pool is used by cars using the private gym club which is upstairs from the pool, meaning a little traffic noise sometimes & using commonsense when walking your children down to the pool. The sloping site is not ideal for everyone, but no hill would mean no views !
So, thats it. We call it our little piece of Heaven, & escape as often as work, finances, & the site being fully booked will allow(best to decide a few dates & book some months ahead)Our verdict ? MAGIC !

Great swimming pool and hot tub which was very welcome after a long days walking.
With this aside there were the following gripes which let the site down and these were:
1. Lack of toilet rolls for 3 days in a row which was poor show.
2. The shower was erratic to say the least, in that one minute it was cold, then one minute hot.
3. This was the biggest gripe, in that tents were allowed on what is a Caravan Club certified location. Not only that but to add insult to injury the 2 tents that were on out site pitched so blooming close that there guy ropes were entwined with ours on the awning attached to our camper van. They were even occuping part of our pitch less than a foot from our outfit! Totally unacceptable!

It is a nice site on a bit of a slope so you need blocks. The views are wonderful. Only has one toilet and one shower so if the site is busy it could be a problem. You also have the use of a swimming pool and spa. We did find that there were more than the 5 vans.
