Another RCN Dutch owned site - they aren't cheap but they're top quality. We were the only British family on site in early July. This site is located at 1000 metres altitude in dramatic scenery, a ten minute drive from Castellane. It was hot and sunny when we stayed, but later a cold wind blew up, and I imagine it could be chilly at night in low season. It's a terraced site with a very steep road - be careful of small children careering down on bikes and anything else on wheels. The site has electric golf-cart type things for those without the energy to make it up to the facilities, although I never saw them being used. Reasonable amount of coniferous shade. Spotless toilet blocks. Smallish pool with sunbathing area of grass and paving, there's a wide slide and various gushing things to keep you cool. Takeaway pizzas, bar with pool table, limited supplies in the shop but you can order bread and croissants each day. There's a small village of La Garde just up the road that has a tiny chocolate factory, a good 'farm shop' type place selling local produce, and a restaurant that specialised in lavender flavoured dishes (!) Castellane ( six miles) makes a great base for exploring the area, amazing scenery - you can drive a whole day exploring the Gorges of Verdon - the roads are superb, and popular with German and Italian motorcyclists. It's all very much geared up for active sports , white water rafting when the river's up, adventure 'parcours' , mountain biking etc. It's a very laid back little town, a cluster of bars in the centre where you can mellow out in the evening on comfy sofas, some good restaurants and a supermarket on the Digne road. Several places where you can book outdoor sports. Well worth the climb to the church which sits high on a rock overlooking the town. It's a long way between towns in this sparsley populated area, although Grasse, Nice and the med are within striking distance for a day trip. Thoroughly recommend the site and area as a whole, there's plenty more in the area too - I loved Castellane and would go back to the area again.
