The confusion (below) about the length of the drive in may be because there are two routes, both described on their website. We used the shorter, rougher route which turns off the IC1 just south of the slip road for São Marcos da Serra. This is 1. 2 miles / 2 km of mostly dirt track but easily manageable in a VW. (We didn't try the longer way in but there were bigger motor homes and caravans here so it must be OK. ) Either way this is well worth the drive if you are looking for a site with good facilities in a wonderful setting among hills by a small river. Good sized and well spaced pitches, although lack of shade might be problem in summer as the trees are still immature.

Facilities are very good with nice washrooms (heated floors!), plenty of hot solar heated water, washing machine (no dryer but a good washing line on a hill!), daily bread delivery, essential food stocked, own olives and local honey. Wi fi for €1 a day reached our pitch.

The Dutch owners are very welcoming, helpful and happy to share their knowledge of the local area. They gave us a file, in English, with all the information we needed. For a small charge they have maps of walking routes from the campsite and we did two lovely 2 - 3 hour walks. Excellent dog walking but I agree you need to avoid Manuel who takes his goats out each day accompanied by three large herd-guarding dogs. You just have to listen for the goat bells and go in the other direction!

The road to the campsite is pretty rough and not the 'about 4 Kms' - more like 7 kms, but once we got there we received a warm welcome and the owners explained all the issues about the campsite - ie that it was an environmentally friendly site. The scenery was stunning. Our only issues were two - the distance from the main road and the poor quality of the dirt road leading to the campsite and the fact that the neighbour who has a herd of goats, has a lot of dogs running loose which for us was a problem because we have a dog. Ultimately we were trying to find a 'dog friendly' campsite and for that reason we wouldn't recommend it to other dog owners. Apart from that, it was a very clean and friendly campsite.

We came across this one by chance seeing a small sign at the side of the road. We followed signs to camp and to be honest it is a bit out of the way - approx 4-5 miles up a fairly rough road. The road isnt UK standards but its very usable and plenty of big units on site so nothing to worry about.

Site well set out with a flat part at the bottom and tiers going up the side. Large pitches all with ehu, plenty of drinking water taps. There is also purified water in a tap for filling water bottles. Washing up facilities, chem disposal and laundry (€4. 50 including powder).

Shower / toilet block was new in 2010 - lovely hot showers, very clean all round and heated floors! Good wifi on site for €2 per night.

The owners sell a few basics and you can have drinks on the terrace in the evenings. Have to say Thea (owner) very welcoming, friendly and helpful. They also supply fresh bread if you order the night before. We bought homeprepared olives from Thea - massive pot for €1 - fantastic.

Very rural so plenty of bird watching from your pitch. There are several gentle walks near the camp and the owners will supply maps.

It about a 30 minute walk into the village where there are several shops and bars. A couple of mini-mercados for all your daily needs. Nearer to the campsite are a couple of restaurants / bars that do great food at very reasonable prices.

This is a gorgeous site which has been developed well in keeping with its surroundings. Its all very relaxed and would highly recommend a stay here.

This place is a paradise for walkers and cyclists, miles of open country and very quiet like Scotland but with out the rain and midges. Beach 30 mins away, guia shopping is 25 mins away, this is big from a candle to a house.
The place is improving all the time. And there are local shops some couple mile away with cafes petrol and restaurants nearby I loved it.
You need to be careful if you have small children there are many water holes in the surrounding area, just need to be carefully as some are big and deep.
