We stayed here for two nights this week. Ok, so the toilet/shower area could do with an update but we found them completely adequate. They were clean that's the main thing! The owner is very accommodating. When we asked if we could leave a little later than what is normally acceptable she didn't hesitate to allow us to do so. Most sites are greedy and ask for extra payment but not here!Nice little launderette area which is again, very cheap in fact everything is reasonably priced. Where else can you get a lovely grassy pitch which is well looked after for £15. 50 in peak season. Every site we have ever been to charge you extras for awnings/children/dogs by greedy owners but not here. You pay a straight fee and that's it! Marvellous. If it's peace and quiet you're after with easy access to the wonderful county of Yorkshire then this is the place. Lovely relaxed site. We will be back.

Welcome to the tale of the two caravan parks. Visit the site during term time, preferably on a weekday, and you couldn't wish for a more peaceful, pleasant stay. Thirsk is only five minutes away by car, or half an hour's amble along the Cod Beck, there's a decent pub in Sowerby and some lovely countryside on the doorstep. Facilities are basic but functional, and grounds are well kept. However, dare to come up during a school holiday and you'll probably wish you'd pitched a tent in the middle of Heathrow airport. If you're lucky enough to have a 'van' near to some of the selfish people who have absolutely no consideration for anyone else, then be prepared for footballs being bounced or kicked about literally feet away until well after the hours of darkness, screaming kids and drunk parents. This is a great site, just don't get your timing wrong or you'll wish you hadn't bothered.

Lovely field and great area for walking and sight seeing. Site is within walking distance to thirsk and very nice pub in sowerby. Unfortunately all this was overshadowed by the very poor facilities. The shower block was very old, cold and in dire need of updating. Shower in gents was no more than a trickle. We would rather have paid more and had decent facilities. We will not be returning.

We made a last minute booking for an overnight stop with hardstanding because it had been wet. The reception was minimal, but it was easy to find our hardstanding pitch amongst the large static caravans. It's a pleasant little site just outside Sowerby, which seems pretty.
Hardstandings are very narrow and as they had cut the grass and left the cuttings to rot, we ended up with a van full of grass. Showers and loos (access via key) were basic and mostly clean - 20p delivered a hot but short shower - but there were no chairs, no curtains.
Site was listed in the club handbook as having motorhome services, but the chemical disposal was very basic and there was no drive-over facility for grey water.
The playground (climbing frame) was old and rusty, but there was a neat little bowling green.
This felt like a site geared to static homes, and though it was cheap (£12. 75), the reception could be more friendly and facilities updated a bit for tourers.

Just returned from a pleasant weekend at Sowerby. On arrival we were directed to the tourers area and told to choose a pitch - all had electric hook-ups. The top of the field is on a slope down to more even ground (the children found this great for free wheeling on their bikes).
There is a small shop on site open approx 1/2 hr on a morning and approx 1hr in the evening. Children purchased sweets and we ordered a morning paper.
There is a field next to the tourer site with 2 goalposts and some swings.
Lots of sheep to see also.
We were opposite the toilet blocks, bins, waste etc. Toilets were basic but never ran out of toilet paper, soap or hand towels. Showers were 20p not very powerful and hard to control the heat, the ones we used were very hot.
We went for a walk through the fields along the river to Sowerby where we found a pub but no shops.
We paid £23 for the weekend which at this time of year we thought fantastic.
