 We first found this site while "passing through" in August 2004 and liked it so much we went back back the following year for two weeks. We would have returned last year but a new baby scuppered our plans. It's a "no frills" 2 Star municipal campsite set in woodland by the side of a lake (Reservoir Du Bourdon) about 6 km outside of the small town of St Fargeau. Toilets are both French and English and the showers are hot. Everything is kept reasonably clean. There is no shop but you can order bread, croissants etc. The children's playground is adequate but not fantastic. However, it is the surroundings that make a visit to this site worthwhile. The lake (30 seconds from the site) has a good sized beach area, the water is clean, pleasant to swim in and feels safe for youngsters to splash around in. There is a nice but simple bar/restaurant there which does a decent merguez and frites and cold beer. You can also hire pedalos and canoes. The town of St Fargeau is quite pretty and has a dramatic chateau at its centre. It also has a small but decent collection of bars, restaurants and food shops. You can visit the "Farm of the Chateau" which is kept as a sort of working museum and does not appear to have changed much in 500 yrs. Go there late morning and have a picnic though you have to be quick to stop those pesky baby goats, hens and piglets running off with your lunch. Also in the area is the Castle of Guedelon where a bunch of enthusiasts are building a medieval castle from scratch using authentic tools and methods. Its fascinating to see (completion date approx 2030).
Although the site is a pretty basic it is cheap and there is enough to do in the area for everyone to keep entertained for as long as you wish. To find it you need to take junction 21 of the A77, get onto the D965 to St Fargeau, take the D85 or D185 out of the town and keep looking for the camping signs.
