 Since the last review the development of the whole Barcares/Port Leucate area has increased substantially. It is a cyclists paradise with dedicated, safe cycle paths everywhere.
The pitches are quite large, flat and separated from each other by oleander and tamarisk hedging. With electric points normally in the corner of the pitch.
Compared with some of the 'hi-de-hi' sites nearer the centre of Barcares, this a quiet site, except for the flocks of serins and hoopoes.
There is a bus stop outside the campsite which goes right into the old centre of Perpignan. Get your return ticket from the Tourist Office on the quayside, it is cheaper. The journey takes about half and hour but is hassle free.
Port Leucate is really a tasteful resort built up around the marina. Lots of cheap quayside restaurants where you can drool over beautiful boats whilst eating.
The beaches at Le Barcares are clean and well patrolled. We saw many families with small children using them.
The markets are along the seafront 3 days a week, with an enormous one on Sundays.
Overall a good Camping Cheque campsite in a very pleasant safe area.

Spent 5 nights on this site whilst "on tour!".
Pitches are big but quite open so not too much privacy.
Sanitary blocks are modern and very clean (they appeared to get cleaned 4-5 times a day)
There is a swimming pool plus a toddlers pool and a further small pool with water slide.
There is a small bar/restaurant which has entertainment in the evenings.
The insect life can be a bit vicious !
Les Barcarres is a 10 minute walk away and has a reasonable selection of shops/bars etc and an excellent market 3 days a week.
5 minutes walk in the opposite direction is a Lidl and a Casino supermarket.
Perpignan is 10 minutes drive away.
Prices are very reasonable (EUR11 for a pitch for 2 plus EHU in low season).
One word of warning - they don't allow charcoal BBQ's
Would definitely use this site again.
