We arrived late in the evening, but the admin person in the office was welcoming and explained how the site worked.
Our pitch was right on the waters edge which was wonderful as I love to swim.
The site is clean and well organised, the toilets were very clean, unfortunately we didn't have change with us and couldn't make use of the showers or dryers (a 1 euro coin is needed for both).
I went for a swim in the river and it was wonderful, a nice touch was the stairs down to water.
Overall a great site, clean and well organised.

I enjoyed my camping stay in July 2017 at Lakeside in Mountshannon. I was there with my wife and 2 kids, 10 and 4, in our 5-person Outwell tent. We stayed for 3 nights but made the mistake of not bringing any cooking equipment, thinking we could use the “campers kitchen”. The campers kitchen had a fridge and a gas cooker and some tables chairs. It was pretty clean, but there wasn’t a single cup, plate, spoon, saucepan or kettle. Nothing.
Pros: Plenty of space, good eating/picnic facilities. Hire a boat or go swimming on the lake. Toilets and showers are clean. Beautiful environment.
Cons: No cooking equipment available. Very little food offerings in Mountshannon village. Wasps. Soccer field was waterlogged.

Access to this site is via a 1 Km narrow single lane road.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Most pitches are located in a wooded area surrounded by old caravans and mobile homes. Many of these appear abandoned in overgrown pitches. There is also a small open area near the lake with a limited number of pitches. Facilities were generally well maintained.
Cost of watersport activities was quite high e.G. Kiwi II Kayak €12.00 Per Hour

We stayed here for one night during our tour around Ireland. It is a lovely little site with organised hardstanding pitches, lovely open grass area for camping and a few enviable lakeside pitches. Facilities quite old but very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Right next to Lough Derg which is beautiful, but beware the midges - they are about all day & night in their thousands so take plenty of repellent and citronella!
