A very basic but beautifully situated little site on a small farm in Lonsdale. I'd say it's more suited to tents and campervans than caravans due to the undulating nature of the field you cross to get to the actual site.
Our non 4x4 car might've bottomed out crossing the bumpy field so we went onto a bit of hardstanding by the barn with our caravan, as there are beautiful views in every direction we didn't feel as though we missed out by having to do this.
The owners are a pleasure to chat to and very helpful and an array of sheep and chickens drop by regularly.
The site is very handy for Great Ayton train station where you can catch a train to Whitby or to Grosmont where you can connect with the North Yorks moors railway. Lots of lovely walks including Capt. Cooks monument and Roseberry Topping.
We'll definitely go back as it's a great base to explore the moors from.

we spent 4 very happy nights here. Graham and Julie, the owners, were very welcoming and helpful, particularly when our van got stuck in a muddy patch! This is traditional camping with basic facilities and with the added bonus of friendly farm cat, chickens and sheep. The views across the valley are spectacular and the peace is only broken by the wind in the trees and the extremely vocal sheep. Would highly recommend this wonderful place, especially to those walking the Cleveland Way.
NB.Shops and transport are a good walk away, so come equipped. The owners know useful local taxi company though.

The site is in a beautiful location in the valley of Lonsdale in the Cleveland Hills. It's situated 1½ miles north of the village of Kildale, which has the delightful Glebe Cottage tearooms, and, 2½ miles east of the town of Great Ayton with all facilities. The walks to nearby Captain Cook's Monument and Roseberry Topping are lovely. The site is ideally suited for backpackers, especially anyone walking the Cleveland Way as it's only half a mile from the route. I believe there is space outside for one caravan/motorhome or car.
The fairly level site is in a small fenced grassy area adjoining the farmhouse with bench and picnic table. The outside toilet has a small hand basin with running hot and cold water. There is a picnic table in the courtyard which the owners use to serve campers a light breakfast of toast and tea or coffee.
I stayed here while walking the Cleveland Way and was warmly welcomed by the owners with a pot of tea and biscuits. They will provide a packed lunch for a fee, but this would be best booked in advance, especially if there is a group. I enjoyed the peaceful location and watching the light change in the morning as the sun rose over the secluded valley.
