This is a lovely campsite situated on the wooded hillside overlooking the seaside town of Cavalaire Sur Mer. The hill from reception is very steep and the road quite twisting, but they will tow your rig up and down for you. The pitches are varied in shape and size, and the amount of shade they have. The higher up the hill you go there are views/glimpses of the sea to be had.
Our pitch was large and had water and electric right alongside. They did give us a huge pitch directly behind the toilet block at first, but we didn't like the noise of people coming and going late at night and early morning and also the gas fumes from the water heaters vented directly onto the pitch. We asked to be moved the next day and they were able to place us further up the site.
There are many caravan/cabin plots mixed in with the camping pitches.
The toilet block nearest our pitch was very clean and fairly new. There was plenty of hot water and we never queued.
The restaurant has no ambience at any time of day, which is a pity, because they are friendly and the food was very tasty. There is some entertainment, but it is very low key and informal, so don't go expecting lavish shows. There is free wi-fi in a TV/internet room, a small kids playground and a boules area. There is a basic cafe serving ice cream and tea/coffee/snacks alongside the pool.
The swimming pool itself is small and overcrowded, but for us, we didn't drive all the way to the South of France to hang around the campsite. There are plenty of beaches along the coast to suit all tastes. We didn't use the pool except on the first and last day, preferring the 20 odd minute winding woodland drive to Pamelonne Beach over to the East and the more rocky L'Escalet where there is free parking if you get there early enough. Of course there are beaches in Cavalaire, but they get pretty crowded.
The camp site shop is tiny and cannot be relied on for any but the most basic of provisions. It does have bread and croissants in the morning, but they run out pretty quickly. There are large supermarkets a five minute drive away down in the town.
The town itself whilst not as pretty as somewhere like Ramatuelle, still has an attractive harbour surrounded by lots of reasonably priced restaurants (and some not so!). This harbour area comes alive in the evenings and is a lovely safe and relaxed place to spend the evening along with all the other families. There is also a traditional French market held on Wednesday mornings.
If you are looking for a small and quiet campsite, situated close to a seaside town you could do much worse than Cros Du Mouton. We much prefer it to the bigger all singing all dancing sites/complexes. In fact we're going again in 2013.
A word of warning about The Mistral, the strong winds that pick up towards the end of the season in the region. We were caught out by the previously tranquil weather and had to batten down the hatches pretty quick when it swept in. Seeing our awning in the nearby trees, wasn't a holiday highlight. Strong rock pegs are the order of the day and lots of them!

Stayed for two weeks with friends on this site and thoroughly enjoyed it. Showers were excellent and very clean. We booked well in advance and had a terraced pitch with a great view down to the Med partially obstructed by a chalet. Restaurant good and included a takeaway service, Bread and groceries on site. Boules, table tennis and children's play area also good.
Pool a little crowded and a large deep area so difficult to stand in.Village was good many shops, fair beach better further to the east. Lovely harbour and reasonable restaurants at night. Plenty in surrounding areas, St Tropez,St Maxine plus an Aqualand,
Staff on site very friendly could be towed up to to pitch. Water on tap, electricity never cut out, showers always hot. Would recommend.

We intended to stay here for 6 nights but only stayed for 1. It is described in the Camping Cheque book as 'a pretty terraced site', ok, fine if you can get up high, but all the higher pitches were occupied, mainly by Dutch tourists. We were put right down the bottom in a dark dingy hole, no chance of any satellite tv reception and it was very depressing.
We thought the reception people were very off hand, they are supposed to offer to tow you to your pitch as the site is so steep but this was not forthcoming. Didn't like the town much and the so called 'famous' beach is a long flat dull expanse of sand.
We wouldn't stay again, if anyone wants to, suggest they book, even for low season.

We stayed at this site at the peak of the season when the park was full and every pitch taken. The showers and toilets were very clean and maintained several times a day. The pool area was a little crowded, it was hard to find a sunbed at peak times, but the pool itself was not too full of swimmers, however it was very deep, too deep to stand at the edge. There was a toddler pool for babies at one end though.
The area of the campsite was on a VERY steep hill, although the emplacements were terraced giving a flat pitch. You would have to be hale and hearty to walk up from reception to the topmost pitches without panting, although they were the most popular giving stupendous views of the resort across to the sea. Our pitch was a fair size given that they can be a squeeze on the coast in a popular resort. We had room for a 7.5 metre van with awning and bedroom extension, and an area where we put out the sunloungers and parasol with the cadac. Each pitch has it's own tap so you can fit a pipe to the van, and a drain hole.
The food at the site restaurant was tasty and modestly priced and various groceries were available at the reception shop. We enjoyed our stay and have booked to return next summer.
