Stayed for bank holiday weekend, 9 pitches all with EHU and own water overlooking the 'Sawley cut' a small feeder canal to bypass wear on river Trent.
Based at large marina security is at a premium with the need for a key to access caravan park, elsan, grey waste.
2 single shower rooms in main building again key needed for access + separate toilet block behind caravans was very clean whilst we were there and surprisingly, given to the number of boats moored, there was no waiting for showers.
Freeview only OK as our status system was trying to work with both west and east midland transmitters, neither very successfully but sat systems seemed OK.
Staff on site very helpful. There is a restaurant on site open Friday evenings for fish and chips, also open both Sat and Sun lunchtimes.
2-4-1 pub at entrance to site + 3 others all offering food within walking distance.
Tesco and Asda 3 miles away in Long Eaton.
Good flat walk along canal onto Trent past golf course and at junction of Trent/Trent Mersey canal nice little tea room will be back.
No kids on site whilst we were there maybe because unrestricted access to canal from caravan park.

Visited last weekend. As expected the 10 pitches(all EHU and water-but no drain) are situated inside the marina grounds, through both a push button lift up barrier(£10 note required for key deposit-see later)and a locked wooden gate.
While the marina is lovely, the pitching area is completely pebbled and was a bit off putting especially as there is a car parked up under a canvas cover on one pitch and a large pile of pebbles left on another pitch-I didn't bother with the awning but the pegs for the sat dish went in ok. As mentioned the touring area over looks the canal but due to the raised flower beds you couldn't see the boats going past but heard them occasionally when they have to sound there horn on entering the marina(only a few times a day and not at night-I should also mention you can hear the M1 which is about half a mile away but its a constant low noise rather than individual vehicles).
I think possibly because of the marina boat owners trying to use them, all the facilities are kept locked- even down to the Elsan and grey water disposal(hence the key)the gents wasn't locked but the one toilet was out of order, the womens was ok. The shower rooms(2-both locked) had a toilet and were fine.
There is a pub doing cheap meals just off site and a restaurant on site.
Rates were a reasonable £16 per night, staff friendly and pitches a good size, there seemed to be a lot of motor homes passing through.
In a nutshell, Sawley Marina was a nice location but the pitching area is bland, reasonable rates, some traffic noise-in our opinion better suited to over night stop than a weeks holiday.

Just back from great weekend at sawley marina, was told earlier in year it wasn't going to reopen this year so glad it has.
Very helpful staff as we were arriving Friday evening.
Went to restaurant for fish and chips they were just as nice as last year.
Walked over bridge and found tearooms didn't try it as the weather was fine the beer was more tempting at the pub where we had meal as well, lovely walk with dog.
Pub allowed dogs inside which was good quite a few dogs in but all well behaved. Will be returning very soon.

Just got back from our second visit at sawley excellent fish and chips from the restaurant, as we take our dog with us they let us sit in the conservatory with the dog, bar staff can't do enough for you even the chef brought our dog a sausage.
Plenty of pubs outside but didn't find any shops. Found a pub which allows dogs.
Will be back soon. Nice and peaceful relaxing. Plenty of nice walks to take your dog.
Would be good if restaurant and bar open longer on saturdays.
Would be nice if hedges cut lower so you can see boats going past.

We went here because it was local and we only usually get away for a weekend. The site was lovely, able to sit in van or outside and watch the boats go by. Short walk to buses and pubs for beer &/or food. Gates locked at night. Unfortunately, the next time we rang for a pitch we were told it was closed until further notice, although it is now being advertised in April 2011 edition of Caravan Club magazine.
