Intended staying for just an overnight but liked this site so much we stayed for 3 nights.
Firstly, this site isn't actually overlooking/beside the lake (as I'd assumed after reading other reviews), there's a public access road which runs beside the campsite and the lake is on the other side of that. People fish from beside the road and there's no safe swimming access from that side but if you walk down the road (which was closed to vehicles) you come to a nice little beach area at the end (note: no dogs allowed at any time, which wasn't ideal for us, having our swimming-mad dog in tow!).
The site is beautifully-kept, with choice of open or shaded pitches, many of them large. Sanitaires (segregated) immaculate.
There are a few cabins and permanent pitches but nothing overwhelming so this still feels like a proper campsite.
We will definitely return.

A very pleasant campsite with marked pitches separated by low hedging. ACSI accepted, 13euors.
Facilities are very well kept (they have a check list) and are segregated; plus toilets and showers are kept apart. Pleasant location alongside the lake and helpful staff. Bread etc can be ordered for the next day. Nice walk around the lake and there are some restaurants on the lakeside too, one of which is open all year and was well patronised midweek in April. I would be wary of simply following a satnav as there are quite a few narrow roads in the forest and also in the town. The site signing was quite good. Boule pitch and free wifi at reception.

Well organised and presented campsite with incredibly helpful reception (she ripped a map out of her phone book to show us where to park and ride in Le Mans).
Segregated facilities are modern and loos and washrooms separate. Very clean. Soap and hand dryer in loos. Large pitches separated by hedges, some shaded. Free WiFi, not the fastest, available near reception. Excellent overall. An incredible 13 Euros per night.
Le Mans is well worth a visit, with sections of the Roman Walls still intact and the old town rather reminiscent of York.
The nearby villages Fresney and Saint Ceri, are very attractive.
It is possible to swim in the large lake adjacent to the campsite, and there is a pleasant walk around its perimeter.
Highly recommended.

Stayed again for another four nights this year. At less than €70 for two adults a child and EHU, it renmains outstanding value for money.
I don't have anything extra to add to my review of last year but simply repeat how fabulous this site and location is for a stay.
There is a brand new SuperU hypermarket in the village too so provisions can be obtained before heading out into the country and lakeside.
10/10 for everything.

Camping De La Foret.
I'm in two minds here because I don't want this campsite to become that popular that we can't secure a booking but in the same breath, the site is so darn perfect and the owners so wonderful that they deserve to be praised to the heavens.
Located a few km north of the village of Sille et Guillaume and about 40 mins from Le Mans this site is perfect for either a couple of days or a pro-longed holiday.
The pretty little town of Sille et Guillaume has all the shops you would want for provisions and a couple of little bar/restaurants. There is a chateau which is open to the public although we didn't visit so I can't comment on it.
We happened on this campsite whilst meandering from Saumur en-route to friends in Normandy. We planned an overnight stop and stayed for four days! A very steep climb out of the village brings you to the campsite on your right which is controlled by an electric barrier.
Pitches are all level and a mixture of shaded and open. They are spacious and marked out with well established hedgerows.
The owners are incredibly welcoming and helpful. M'me Renault speaks English but was appreciative of my awful attempts to communicate in French. She is especially welcoming towards children, treating my lad to an ice cream as we were inquiring about availability. €12. 50/night in July with EHU is also an absolute bargain.
Toilet block was spacious, spotlessly clean, bright and airy with lovely hot showers. Laundry, dishwashing and veg prep area is a separate building.
Fresh bread and croissants can be ordered for next day at the office which also stocks basic foodstuffs and useful items as well as the essentials such as beer, wine and cider!
The lake next door to the campsite provides a safe sandy beach for kids of all ages, including myself to play, paddle or swim. Pedalos and canoes can be hired whilst there are numerous cafes and bars dotted around the lake to keep you refreshed. The cafes are open into the night for drinks and entertainment. All designed for the local population, not foreign tourists, therefore you get a real sense of French life and I loved it!
The main lake is one of three in the locality and they all provide good fishing. Permits are sold in the site office. Two are mixed coarse fisheries and the third is also stocked with trout.
Would we go back? You bet. We've just booked our ferry crossing for a three week holiday in July and have booked a week at this site, can't wait.
