We were recommended this site by a couple we had met on our travels. We were not disappointed despite the wet weather.
The site is on the banks of the Loire and easy to access. It's advertised as a natural 'green' campsite and there is a lot of interesting planting all around, including beds of herbs that you are free to pick.
There's a mix pre erected tents and cabins and touring pitches but it doesn't feel crowded as the cabins and ready erected tents are around the edges of the site or in their own area.
Camping pitches are open on the whole with trees at the back of some for shade and they vary in size. Ours was more than adequate for our 6m van and bigger vans seemed to be put on the bigger pitches.
Reception is at the entrance with the facilities block opposite, though it should be noted that the showers and toilets are on the fist floor, accessed by an outside staircase. However there are disabled facilities on the ground floor if you ask at reception. There's a motorhome service point near to the front of the site.
There is a large open air terrace that is protected by sails next to reception with a cafe selling burgers, pizzas etc and bar but they were closed some of the time we were there, possibly due to being out of season and the weather. I understand they are open for a lot more hours and there's more choice in high season. There is also a very nice open air bar 'Guinguette En Rouge et Loire' just round the corner on the banks of the Loire serving great beer, drinks and food with live music a couple of times a week, a very good restaurant just beyond that and a couple of pizza take-aways in the village itself. Bread and pastries can be ordered from Reception.
The site also offers 2 tennis courts, pétanque, bicycle hire, a football pitch and a children’s playground. The cycle path along the Loire is just the other side of the bridge to the north of the site. There is no pool on site but there is a huge natural open air swimming pool just outside the gates.
Buses into Angers city go from the main road near the Marie office which is only a short walk from Reception.
We really enjoyed this site and will happily return in the future.

This was taken over and reopened in June 2019 as 'Slow Camp', just outside Angers.
We stayed in a lodge as a family of 4 with our kids aged 9 and 11 and this site is wonderful;
Huge pitches with sun and shade. Very green and kids can roam and play safely
Fab communal area with canopies to offer shade
Grow your own veg - to pick and enjoy as you like
Nice clean sanitaires (being developed still I think)
Tennis court
Laundry
Pasta van came most evenings and it was delish
Order at Reception the day before for enormous croissants and bread for the morning
Next door to the site is;
A beautiful, enormous and empty, (free to campers) municipal swimming pool. Has a small shop and v clear toilets, Lifeguards a plenty. !
A gorgeous, open-air bar which the locals attend for lovely food and music. This was a gem
A small town, not much going on apart from a good pizza shop and what looked like an amazing bakery
The river and lots of greenery
Site owners were super helpful and friendly. Nice mix of French, Dutch and English campers in all kinds of units
This site is very laid back, calm, easy-going - a proper camp-site to relax at. Not for you if you want full on entertainment, kids club, a holiday resort.

Campsite name is now Camping L'Ile Du Chateau, run by a lovely family who are continually working to keep the site looking well.
Pitches were large, those on grass were actually some of the biggest we have seen anywhere, separated from neighbours by low hedging. All have ehu, there are water taps every few pitches and a chem disposal. There is a motorhome service point at the entrance for empty and fill. Wifi across the site, good strong signal.
The loos and showers are old, but very, very clean. Plenty of hot water, push button showers but they lasted a few minutes per push.
No swimming pool on site but there is a massive pool area just outside the gates for which we understand you are given a pass in with your camping fee.
The site is 5 km from Angers city centre, bus run from the end of the road or you can use the cycle paths, took us about 20 minutes, There are cycle paths everywhere, we spent two separate days riding in each direction along the Loire, mainly off road but even when not we saw less than a handful of cars.
We were there at a quiet time and loved the site and the area, am sure it gets quite hectic mid season but for us it was perfect and we will visit again.

Really enjoyed the site, the area is a bit quite around, daughter loved the play area and pool.
The little bar served reasonable priced drinks ( made me happy at least)
You can walk into the small town area but there isnt much there, supermarket is a good 15 - 20 mins walk.
If I was in the area I would stay again.
Next time I would take bikes with me
Didnt do the kayaking as it wasn't particularly cheap and the river looked quite fast not ideal for a young daughter.
Weather wasn't the greatest but you cant blame the owners for that.
Everything I asked for was given and the staff were extremely helpful

Had reserved our pitch and paid a deposit online but upon check in, and having had 90 mins to kill before we could get in (lunch break!) we saw another pitch we wanted. This was no problem to sort out and we settled in not too far from the gate to the swimming pool complex. This gate has a coded keypad and you are given passes to get in free.
There is a security guard there keeping an eye on the teenagers that seem to congregate there. The main gate to it is closed at 8pm which is a good thing because the cars and scooters are up and down, screaming and stuff going on. It was the weekend though so may have had something to do with it.
The campsite is in a well appointed position near to the bridges and rivers in the town. They offer a bouncy castle, playground, pedal go kart hire, mini golf, snack bar (not wonderful food but varied menu at least). The showers, toilets, washing up sinks, washing machines etc are all in one 2 storey building centrally located. Showers were fab and always quiet and clean.
We do not go out of sites in the motorhome usually and did not need to here either. There is a very long velo route along the Loire in both directions and we wore out the children and the dog with a long 3 hour ride.
Supermarkets are within driving distance. I would suggest this is a good place for touring the Loire area. Used by all different nationalities.

We stayed at the Ile Du Chateau campsite for 5 nights in August and would recommend it for tents or caravans.
The campsite is actually on an island in the middle of the Loire river near Angers. Very quiet location, lots of trees and shade (although we had rain!). Might want to choose a pitch away from a tree if rain is forecast.
Campsite is fairly small. Pitches were fairly generous, and delineated by hedges. Typical pitch size was around 8m by 10m although there was some variation. There is no shop, but there is a small Epicerie which sells bread and croissants in the mornings - but you need to order the evening before! There is a small outdoor bar which also serves pizza and chips in the evening - maybe some other stuff as well, but probably straight from the freezer to the microwave! There are electrical hook-ups for each pitch and BBQ'a are allowed.
Facilities are OK and very clean. Take your own toilet roll! One negative point was that the toilets are all without seats, so you either need to develop your thigh muscles, or take some anti-bacterial wipes!
There is no swimming pool on the site itself, however there is a large outdoor water park literally on the other side of the fence, and admission is free if you're staying at the site. The water park has a slide, a large pool, and other stuff for kids, plus a playground and lots of grassy areas to sit. There are lifeguards at the pool as well. It wasn't very warm when we were there, but the kids didn't seem to care!
There is a kids' playground on the site itself, a games rooms and some organised activities for children (in French). Other than that, there isn't much directly around the campsite other than a few very small French bars and a takeaway pizza place. There is a hypermarket and restaurants within a 5-10 minute drive and Angers itself has loads of restaurants and is about 15 minutes away.
Things that we enjoyed with our kids of 6 and 8:
1) There's an outdoor ropes adventure in the woods northeast of Angers (about 20 minutes drive). We'd never done this before, and even the kids' section was fantastic. A definite high point of our holiday
2) Cycle hire - at the Kayak rental place on the island. You can cycle right into Angers, or into the country. All easy cycling
3) Kayaking: The Kayak rental place will drop you off up-river and then you just drift downsteam. The minimum age limit is 7, so we had to travel to Rocheforte for our 6 year old (but they had the same sort of arrangement)
4) Angers: Nice town
5) Tour of the Cointreau production facility. (OK, my wife just reminded me we didn't do this. The English version of the tour was at 1pm daily. Booking advised)
Overall, I would recommend this as clean, quiet, pleasant site, with lots of things to do for kids roundabout. I would definitely consider it again if we wanted to visit Angers region.
