 This site does not have details on the ukcampsite website (and no reviews), nor does it have its own website so when we went, we really had little idea if what to expect.
Booking by phone, the owner described it as rural, small and basic - and he was totally honest.
Rural because its maybe 0.5 mile away from the tiny village of Penallt (pub there) and so its just you and the fields.Lovely and quiet.
Small - well thankfully yes its not one of those huge commercial sites where 500 families cram into a field, but this is not that small as he has a large field and there were only 3 families there when we went - you could have had many more and still been fine.
Basic - yes there is only a simple toilet/sink and a cold water tap outside but that's fine for a night or 2 in my view.And its reflected in the price to be fair, at £7.50 per night for a family of four I think its very reasonable.
There is a beautiful lake that we camped by (but there is plently of space well away from the lake if you have little ones)
The owner was very nice (he guided us in when we got lost, and showed us where we could camp etc) and he left us to ourselves thereafter (no great list of rules like some owners give)
Overall a great base for exploring the forest of dean/wye valley, being within 15 minutes drive from Monmouth, Coleford, Clearwell, Symonds Yat so plenty of walking, canoeing and exploring within reach.
