A fairly large lakeside campsite but with a small campsite feel. Family run and very friendly. Flat grass pitches which run right down to the lake. Units are cleverly sited in avenues perpendicular to the lake. This way everybody has an open side onto a wide grassy area looking across at your neighbour on the other side of the avenue. The “closed side” of your unit backs onto the closed side of units on the next avenue. This maximizes the number of pitches but nobody is on top of anybody else and we all got a view of the lake. Leavers and arrivals drive along an avenue to get in and out. Several wash room blocks around the site, nothing special but all are clean and functional. There is a swimming pool, a good value restaurant serving tasty food, and a small shop for basics. Small supermarket in Marone (500metres).
This is a really lovely site to spend a few days relaxing by an unspoilt lake. We chose it to hide away from the bank holiday crowds, and weren't disappointed. A few kilometres from the campsite you can join a lovely scenic cycle/walking route which hugs the lakeside, to Pisogne. Here don't miss a visit to 'S Maria delle Neve' which is known as the 'Poor Man's Sistine Chapel' because of its well preserved frescoes (entrance is free). Or if you fancy it you can cycle right around the lake (60kms) from the campsite on a mixture of cycle paths, pavements and roads (mostly flat).
We highly recommend this site for a relaxing stay in a beautiful environment.

Camping Riva di San Pietro is in the village of Marone. It is situated right on the Eastern shore of Lake Iseo one of the smaller of the Italian Lakes. It has good road access via the dual carriage way which links with the autostrada from Verona to Milan. It is featured in the Caravan Club’s “Caravan Europe 2” Guide. (2006). We did not book in advance but just phoned up on the day we hoped to reach the area and they kept us a pitch free. We stayed for 10 days arriving on 12 August 2007. There were free pitches available throughout the time we stayed there. The clientele is international and we had neighbours from Germany, Austria, Holland and Italy. There were only 2 or 3 English families.
The site is quite small and the pitches which are very close together, with no real space between pitches, measure approx 7.5 metres square. We fitted our 7.2 metre van and 2.4 metre awning onto our pitch okay. We were fortunate to get a pitch only one back from the lakeside and the views over the nearby island, complete with “castle”, lake and mountains on all sides were stupendous. Cars are parked off pitch, although our car park space was adjacent to our pitch.
There are several unisex toilet blocks with adequate rather than luxury facilities but these were kept clean. There is, also, a dish washing area and a launderette with token operated washing machines and dryers.
The site has a small outdoor swimming pool, children’s play area and a bar/ restaurant. The lake can, also, be used for swimming and boating. We moored our motorised Zodiac inflatable on one of the site’s buoy, (6 Euros per day). The site has canoes, pedaloes, a motor launch, etc for hire and there is, also, an on-site diving school which offers lessons in the Lake. The Lake is okay for swimming although it does shelve off quickly into deeper water. There are a couple of wooden jetties used by both boaters and fishermen. There is no entertainment arranged on the site but our 19 year old son made friends with a multinational group of a similar age to himself they played football, swam and boated in the lake, played pool in the bar, etc and he had a super time.
There is a ferry boat service on the Lake. It has a ferry “stop”10 minutes walk away in the village and this enables tours of the Lake and visits to Iseo and other towns on the Lake. We purchased day tickets which enabled us to see most of the Lake in one day, spending time in several towns enroute. There are, also special cruises organised by the ferry company including moonlight dinner and lunchtime cruises with meals onboard. It is, also, possible to visit Monte Isola, the largest Lake island in Europe. Monte Isola is an excellent place to explore by bike as there are only a few roads – unfortunately we had had to leave our bikes with our car which broke down in Rome! The village, also, has a rail station, a range of small shops and a reasonable supermarket. There are larger supermarkets within 10 miles and a “designer outlet village” a similar distance. There is plenty of scope for walking in the nearby mountains if desired. Although the weather was generally good this site, like the rest of the area, is prone to sudden thunder storms with quite high winds – firm pegging of tents and awnings is advisable.
The owners Giovanni and his wife are a lovely couple. They both speak fluent English and do EVERYTHING that they can to help and assist their guests. They booked tickets for us on the local ferry, were a mine of information on the local area and personally helped us both site our ‘van and then move it to a pitch nearer the Lake when it became available. They, also, allowed me to use their office computer to access the internet and only accepted payment for this reluctantly. I saw them give the password to their wireless internet to another caravanner, so that he could use his wireless laptop, without charge. When we were paying our bill Giovanni produce a complimentary bottle of wine from his cousin’s local vineyard.
The entrance to the site is off the main road through the village is quite hidden although signed with a campsite sign. The cobbled entrance is quite steep and often narrowed by parked cars.
I would strongly recommend this site to those who, like us, enjoy quieter rural sites with lake views and boating facilities
