A very nice, green site with a good pool. The river it is on is lovely and clean and safe and we swam and played ( two boys aged 9 and 7) in it every day. We also hired canoes from the campsite for an afternoon.
You can order bread rolls each evening for the next day but there is no choice and there is no shop on site although there is a small bar. The shop in the village is limited so we would advise stocking up at the big Iperal supermarket before you arrive. This is a fantastic supermarket full of freash meats, cheese and produce.
We enjoyed meals out at the local pizza restaurant along with other traditional Italian food.
Rather than driving we caught the bus from the village along the lake to Menagio and the the boat across to Belagio for a lovely day out.
We would definitely use this site again. The toilets are clean however you have to buy tokens (1 euro each) for the showers. We had electric hook up and a water tap just by our pitch.

This is a beautiful, well kept site on the banks of the river a short distance from LakeComo. The pitch size was good and we were located facing the water and the mountains with only a small fence separating us from the waters edge.
On our arrival we were greeted by the site owners who spoke good English. We were given a comprehensive information pack detailing places to visit, local shopping, walks, cycle rides etc before being escorted to our designated pitch. The on site facilities were good with excellent toilet/shower blocks (which were of a very high hygiene standard), laundry and washing up facilities and an immaculately kept swimming pool.
The local town of Sorico was within a short walking distance (1.5km)along the path by the river where there were a several restaurants, a garage, tabac and small supermarket. A bigger hypermarket was located about 4 kms from the site on the main route to Sondrio.
There are plenty of local sites to see but short drives around the roads on the banks of Lake Como took us to some beautiful villages with marvellous views overlooking the lake and mountains.
This was our 1st time abroad with the caravan and we feel we struck lucky by choosing this site. It has certainly given us the flavour to do it again.
The only downside we found was in the evenings when sat outside we were subjected to a few mosquito/midges attracted by the water but we found that using a decent insect repellent and candles kept the amount of 'bites' to a minimum.

To find site:- It is advised to approach this site from the eastern side of Lake Como via Lecco on the SS36. (The western side of the Lake from Como is not recommended for towing.) At the northern end of the lake as the road divides follow signs for Como. This requires a left turn in about a kilometre, there is a centre selling garden ornaments on the corner. It should be signed to Como but the sign is quite difficult to see. Continue along this road and after river bridge watch out for signs to site and left turn into site road. There are two campsites on this short approach road, Camping Poncione is the first and La Riva is at the end of the road by the river.
La Riva has a superb location situated on a river about 1 kilometre north of Lake Como and is surrounded by mountains. All pitches are on grass and level, they vary in size but most are quite generous. Most pitches have easy access to water and waste points which should allow water connection but it would be more difficult to connect to waste as access is via a metal drain covers would be difficult to leave open. There are electricity points close to most pitches and they have CEE17 connectors rated at 6 amps. There is one toilet block which is of an excellent standard with seated toilets but no paper. For showers you need a token which costs 80 cents. Reception, where English is spoken, is in the middle of the site and also contains a small bar where bread can be ordered for the morning. Between reception and the toilet block there is a nice swimming pool and sun lounge area. About a third of the site is taken up by permanent caravans but they are mostly sited the other side of reception. Just outside the site, over a public footpath, along the river bank the campsite maintain an open area between the site and the river where there is space to sit or launch a boat. From our observations of other sites nearby La Riva is certainly the best in the area. However it is quite expensive, especially as you also have to pay for showers although pricing is not out of place compared to other similar Italian campsites. It can be booked via the Caravan Club which can give you a bit of a saving depending on the exchange rate. The site does not have WiFi but reception did suggest you could use the office computer if it was necessary to check e-mail. Date of visit mid May 2009
The footpath that runs past the site is handy for cycling/walking into Sorico and along the shore of Lake Como. There are many excursions possible from the site by car. The campsite loans each new arrival with a folder of local attractions which is a nice touch. If you like Gardens then Villa Carlotta at Tremezzo is worth a visit. There is a large supermarket about 4 kms from the site in the direction Sondrio.

We stayed at Camping La Riva, Sondrico at the northern end of Lake Como. We found this in the Alan Rogers 'Italy' guide. The site is, also, in the CClub Travel booklet. I would highly recommend that guide which we used a lot in deciding on our choice of sites.
La Riva was right on the edge of the river where it flowed into Lake Como and surrounded by very grand mountain scenery. It had a small outdoor pool and bar/restaurant but that's about all actually on the site. Bread can be ordered from the bar. They had a number of large pitches fronting onto the river with only a wire netting fence, lovely views. Most of bigger pitches are at the newer end of the site which is, also, less crowded.
We booked direct with the site by email but we did have to send a deposit either by bank draft or cash in euros. We chose the cash by registered post as that was much cheaper. This was cheaper than booking direct with the Caravan Club.
The site is family owned and the family were very helpful. The owner's wife and some of the staff speak excellent English. The owner towed our van to another pitch, ours was booked for another caravanner, when we were delayed from leaving by a car breakdown and our car was being repaired.
We enjoyed La Riva with frequent trips in our 3 metre inflatable along the adjacent river. The site offers moorings for a small daily fee. We did go onto Lake Como but the wash from the bigger motor launches made it a bit scary. The weather was generally hot and sunny although there were a few thunder storms with strong winds on some of the evenings. When we were taking down our awning a sudden squall blew it up onto the roof of caravan and bent some of the alloy poles. I was advised that such squalls are relatively common in this mountainous region.
There is recently made cycle/footpath along the lakeside to the village about 1 mile away. The village has a range of small shops including a grocery store, newspaper shop, post office and bakers. There is a new shopping centre with a large hypermarket about 5 miles away.
There is a good dual carriageway up the Eastern side of the Lake from Lecco, although this includes frequent tunnels. I strongly recommend that you DO NOT approach via the roads on the west side of Lake Como, if towing, as the road is VERY narrow in places.
The drive, not towing, around Lake Como is a very pleasant with some fantastic Lake scenery. Bellagio is a particularly picturesque spot with flower bedecked walkways along the lakeside.
I would strongly recommend this site to those who, like us, enjoy quieter sites and are happy to make their own entertainment.
