Member of the caravan club portfolio. We were allowed to chose our own pitch on arrival - it took some time as this site is vast.

Once pitched, we realised we needed an extension lead for our electric cable to reach the supply which was, partly of the way we position our caravan, was around 30 meters away.

Toilets clean, but bring you own toilet roll and no toilet seats. The cubicles all had toilet, shower and basin, which made showering great as you had quite a bit of room for dressing.

Information area was very helpful and gave us advice on our day trip to Venice - we picked up the boat 1km from the campsite (you could park in the local supermarket car park all day), for 8 euros, return fair to Venice, so very reasonable.

We were lucky enough to be there for the annual firework display which takes place on the beach.

Handy site for visiting Venice, but as so large, lacks personality and atmosphere - good for 2 or 3 nights, but not any longer.

We last visited this site over 10 years ago when we frequently stayed in Eurocamp caravans. We thought this might be a good site to base ourselves for a week after travelling down through France and Switzerland in our motorhome, as it is right on the beach near Venice in Italy.

The site is a 3 star and I can see why they have kept this rating as we feel that there appears to have been little investment since we last visited! (The electrical plug in points seem incredibly old and we had several problems with it, making it impossible to actually use our electric for the first few days until a few pitches became empty and we could use another point!) The campsite denied that there was a problem saying that it was our connector, blaming the weather etc.

Saying this, location is excellent being on such a beautiful long beach which seems to go on forever and I think that is why it remains so popular!

The toilet block we used was kept extremely clean by the same lady who seemed to actually be there for about 12 hour shifts every day! but she had her work cut out as people were constantly showering after using the beach (a few simple cold water showers at the gates to the beach would have solved this problem we thought!) A personal problem I had was that there were no seats on any of the toilets which is off-putting! and no toilet paper provided. This alone may prevent me from returning to the site.Although our son insists that he would like to go back so I may have to back down.

The Shop is large and well stocked and quite reasonably priced especially compared to France these days. Restaurant is just ok, nothing to shout about. We all received our food at different times and my husbands' steak and chips were cold on arrival. We felt that they struggled to cope really.

There is payable wifi on site, up to 15 euros for 3 hours! You can get connection at the bar/restaurant and at the take away/bar area half way point on the main road through the site.

Unfortunately, you can't BBQ at your pitch and so we wished we had brought our 'all in one' camp cooker so we could at least do some stir fries and curries or steaks outside the 'van.

The pools were nice and clean but a bit crowded so we used the beach which we loved, but beware as quite a few people received nasty jelly-fish stings (including our son!)

The entertainment team were headed up by an incredibly energetic (I think Dutch??) girl who we saw regularly running up and down the beach and who seemed to speak about 10 languages. She was a credit to the site and very funny (as were the two other guys) whose attempts at Karaoke were intentionally (I think) camp and funny! They went down well with the kids and teenagers.

A word about the pitches, I don't agree with the previous reviewer who thought the pitched were larger closer to reception, we opted for Pizziaola C as it seemed very cramped and busy in A and B. Granted, we were a long way from the entrance and the bar/ restaurant etc but there is a bar and take away with covered and outdoor seating which is half-way and so more convenient in the evening. Also, we used our bikes to make the trips to the supermarket and Reception so it wasn't a problem for us. If you want to ensure you are close to water taps, choose the ends of the 'strada', we choose a lovely wide pitch (15) at the end of strada 54 (but we noticed most of the end pitches within a few stradas had similar pitches) and it meant we were within hosepipe distance of the taps which are situated between every few bungalows which front the beach. This also means it is literally 1 minute and you can be on the beach and of course it's easy to pop back to your pitch at lunchtime!

Something to note is that the site is closed to traffic (and strictly enforced) between ??12.30-1 and 3.30pm. We turned up at 1pm but it did mean that we could use the motorhome service point in the car park (the ONLY one!) and also, walk around the park after being given a list of available pitches by the guard at the entrance to choose a suitable one.

Cycling to Punta Sabbione to catch the boat was a day to remember. The back roads are quite quiet, skirting the beach campsites down around the headland to the boat departure points. There is a bus depot there and several restaurants and cafes and plenty of places to chain up your bikes. We decided to catch the Marco Polo boat rather than the 'official' boat as it was only 8 euro return comared to 16 euros for the others. There was no catch. However, there are only about 4 or 5 scheduled boats each way every hour or so.When we turned up at the Piazza San Marco to catch the return, there was a HUGE queue but they must have put on extra boats as another one came in to pick us up. Had a lovely day wandering the streets of Venice but it was very hot and very busy so be prepared!

To Find Site:- From Venice (Marco Polo) Airport, which is signed from autostrada A4/A27 follow signs for Jesolo and then Cavalino and Punta Sabbione. On the approach to Ca Savio watch out for signs to Camping Ca Savio which requires a left turn off the main road. From here follow signs. (please note, a new motorway has opened which bypasses Mestre but taking it will require you to double back to the Airport, make sure you follow signs to Airport rather than Venice. The new motorway has been designated the A4 and the old A4 round Mestre is now the A27!)

Camping Ca Savio is a large campsite with in the region of 800 touring pitches plus many others taken up by tour operators and the site's own units. As a result it can be very busy during school holidays. It is situated adjacent to a long sandy beach on the Adriatic and it is on this side of the site where the touring pitches are situated so they have easy access to the beach. Pitches vary in size and the most generous seem to be nearer to the reception end with smaller pitches at the furthest end of the site. Most have a good level of shade from fir trees although the large fir cones look a bit menacing! Electric points are positioned between the rows and have CEE17 connectors rated at 6amps but wise to check for reverse polarity. One thing that lets this site down is the lack of sufficient water points which are very sparse in some areas. The site has several eating places from takeaway to self service and service restaurants. There is a good site shop selling most things you will need for your stay, including wine sold by the litre! WiFi and fixed terminal internet access is available at several places on the site but it is not site wide unfortunately. Costs are around €5 an hour although it does get progressive cheaper. Reception is open throughout the day but a 'quiet period' operates between 1.00pm and 3.00pm in the afternoon for vehicle movements which can be inconvenient, although there is a car park at the entrance. Also near reception is a nice swimming pool complex. Toilet blocks are dotted around the site and are of a good standard. One unusual feature is that cubicles contain toilet/shower/wash hand basin. The toilets are seatless and no paper is provided. No pets are accepted. There is a little aircraft noise from planes in and out of Marco Polo Airport. The site accepts Camping Cheques for a limited period and it can also be booked via the Caravan Club ABS service. Date of visit late May 2009.

The twin advantage of the location of this campsite is the access to a long sandy beach and the ease of access by ferry from Punta Sabbione to Venice. Ferry/bus tickets are available from reception but they can also be purchased from the ticket office at the ferry with more ticket choices. There are also good cycle ways from the site into Ca Savio and to Punta Sabbione. There is a small supermarket in Ca Savio and larger ones out towards Jesolo.
