Perfect for the C2C walk as start (east) not far down the road.
Staff friendly, toilet & shower facility basic but ok & clean.
Some rail noise but I slept ok!
Coop & fish & chip shop not far. Bus service along A6.

Used the site on our end to end cycle tour. The skies had opened and being very wet decided to make this an unsceduled stop.
At first we were told to pitch in the back and pay later. The site was very small and next to a building site with just enough flat area for our tent as no one else was there. The access to the site was muddy but not helped by a table being in the way which meant you had to walk through a very muddy area.
The shower and sink (just one) were not clean. Another couple turned up and had to pitch within 4 foot of us due to lack of space.
I went to pay later. A young chap took my money with barely a word and no attempt at being friendly or of assistance.
I have toured and camped for many years, using dozens of campsites, this ranks as as the worst

As a party of 2 cyclists 2 supporters & 3 dogs on a LEJOG, camping at New Ing Lodge was a pleasure, with a warm and friendly welcome at the end of a hard days cycling.
Our tent pitch was close to the lodge and the camping facilities were very basic but we were able to use the lodge, showers, warm and comfortable lounge with a log burner(so good when your cold and wet)
We took advantage of the dining room with a very nice evening meal and breakfast in the morning(both highly recommended)
To the front of the lodge is a walled garden that the dogs could run in safely.
There is a main line railway close by and an early morning alarm call courtesy of a resident cockerel (that's part of the fun of camping)
I would not hesitate to recommend New Ing Lodge, My wife an myself will be making a return visit(without the bike this time)
A little gem in Cumbria!

Stayed one night while walking the Coast to Coast. Camping area is small - basically the back garden! We had it to ourselves so that was no problem but it wouldn't take many tents before it would become crowded.
Outside facilities are very basic so well worth paying the extra £2 for use of the excellent indoor facilities which include a lovely shower/bathroom area and an indoor kitchen. Owners were very friendly and helpful and even though we were camping we were invited to spend the evening indoors by the fire!
They do provide breakfast and evening meal if you wish to take advantage of this too. However, the location is on the main street through Shap so there are plenty of pubs and takeaways nearby too. Nice place to stay albeit endearingly quirky! Good value for money too.

Very small camping space in garden at back of lodge shared with chickens and washing line. Outside facilities extremely poor, toilet / washroom doors do not shut, cold water tap not working and only cold water from hot tap. Worth paying extra £2 to use indoor bathroom and shower, this also included use of small kitchen if needed. Downside having to go round to front of house and trek up two flights of stairs with all your stuff.
Cockerels woke us up very early - 4am - crowing for 2 hours and trains ran 12pm to 3am constantly during Friday night. Only one out of three of us disturbed by this though.
Owners very helpful and friendly and campers can get breakfast, evening meals and packed lunches at reasonable prices. The camping site is being extended shortly so hopefully outside facilities will improve alongside extension of camping ground.

Pleasant setting in village although close to trains on West Coast Mainline so a bit aware of that and road noise.
The site itself is very small- we have no ideas how 10 people would fit- we were glad to be the only ones on site. It's really only camping on the patch of garden behind the main hostel.
We chose to only make use of the outside facilities as only there one night (£4 PPPN)- these were extremely basic! Guess it'd be better if we'd paid the extra £2 pppn for the privilege of inside loos and showers.
Friendly owners. Nice to have chickens wandering about!
