Fantastic Site, good sized pitches individual surrounded by hedge, the site is on a steep hill with the great clean pool complex, shop, reception and restaurant/bar at the bottom. Clean communal toilets/showers etc. There is a play area / table tennis tables and small pitch and putt all located near the swimming pool with boules across the lane.
The site does put on some entertainment during the day also in the evenings, this can be noisy if your pitch is located nearby but the entertainment is for families with many of the holiday makers taking part.
Good location to visit the many attractions the region has to offer.
We a family with a 6/9 year old loved this site would recommend it and will be returning but if you like sites with many english people this is not the site for you, but if you want to practice your french then give it a go you won't be disappointed.

Actually visited in 2002.
Agree with all above.
If you don't want the nightly disco noise camp well away from the reception area. Tends to be some disco noise from a neighbouring campsite (3 kms away!)
Terrific for kids and young people.
It's a very shady campsite due to the number of trees. So if you like all day sun, either decamp to the pool area or you may find you are moving your seating regularly as the sun crosses the heavens.
But the area and Sarlat are the big attractions.
Lascaux and the prehistoric cave paintings are a must!

La Chataigneraie is situated in the heart of the Dordogne 5 miles to the east of Sarlat, the capital of Perigord Noir. The site is ideal for exploring the beautiful countryside in the area. There are many historic towns to visit, including Domme, La Roche-Gargeau, Beynac, Gourdon and Rocamadour.
The site has clearly defined grassy pitches which provide shade. There are three modern sanitary blocks that are well equipped and kept clean. Only gas or electric bbqs are allowed on the pitches, but near the sanitary blocks away from the trees are large fixed bbqs for use with charcoal. There are also many static caravans on the site.
The site has four pools, a jacuzzi and water-slides with plenty of space to sit around. There is also a fitness circuit and a mountain bike circuit. There is also a small shop, bar, restaurant and takeaway on the site.
Other facilities include tennis, table tennis, mini-golf, skittles and a TV and games room.
We had one takeaway pizza meal the day we arrived which was nothing special and a terrible meal in the site restaurant so did not eat there again. The evening entertainment was generally very good but often went on until midnight, so much for the 10.30 curfew!
Nearby Sarlat has markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the Saturday one being the larger of the two. In the evenings the town has many entertainers and it is great just to wander around. One evening we went to the superb Michelin rated Restaurant le Présidial. What a meal, four courses plus canapés to start and petit fours to finish, all for 36 euros!
A canoe trip on the Dordogne is a must. We just turned up at one of the canoeing bases on a not so sunny day and did a 4 to 5 hour trip. They do recommend that you book but presumably that is at peak holiday periods.
There were not many British people on the site and few of the staff spoke much English but do not let that put you off because this is an excellent campsite and it is a wonderful area to visit.
