Lovely peaceful site friendly and clean beautiful location for stunning walks.
The site has a lot of long term residents, who tend to use the site at weekends so if you want a place to yourself then visit through the week.
The long term lets are very welcoming and locals in Redmire happy to socialise
Really dog friendly although there are resident sheep and rabbit's who visit but do not seem bothered by the dogs.

A hidden gem! Lovely, peaceful, rural site. We stayed 6 nights as a family group. The site is located behind the owners’ various businesses. The entrance is therefore not your usual reception area but the owners’ yard.
However, beyond this the camping area Is a well maintained, flat field with electric hook up available around the outside of the field and non hook up pitches In the centre.
Hard standing plastic matting has been installed this year to most of the hook up pitches. There are some seasonal pitches for caravans available.
Toilet/ showers/ washing up is in a porta-cabin style building. 2 Showers which are a little Cramped but clean and plenty of hot water. Wash basins and toilets all clean and well stocked with loo roll, soap etc. 2 washing up basins with a washing machine and tumble dryer (£1 coins each), electric point and fridge/freezer for guest use.
COVID precautions were very good - sanitiser at entrance to toilet/ shower block, plenty of soap, paper towels and anti bac spray. Prominent signs advising how many allowed in the toilet/ shower/ Washing up area at a time, guidance on hand washing etc.
3 swings to entertain kids and space for children to play in the central area as long as it is not full of campers. A few picnic benches are available free of charge and the owner kindly delivered one to our pitch. BBQs and fires permitted off the ground (but not on hard standing matting).
No shop or food provisions on site so stock up In Leyburn before arrival (Co-op very expensive though!). Bolton Arms pub in Redmire worth a visit, good food and friendly staff. Walk to Bolton castle from the site recommended.
Friendly campsite owners who are often seen around the site and are willing to help.

In summary a peaceful and friendly site that we will be happy to recommend and use again.
We stayed here to visit the 'Medieval Music in the Dales' festival over a long weekend at Bolton Castle. Less than a mile to walk to the castle and village and less than a mile to the village of Redmire so very convenient for us.
The site is well back from the road so no traffic noise, only the occasional tractor moving around the farm. There are a few pieces for children to play on but laying well back from the road it is a child friendly site but remember that it is a working farm with all that that entails for safety if they wander.
The site itself is flat and the grass is a thick sward which is well maintained so it doesn't turn muddy even with the rain that the area has had all summer. Having said that, don't churn it up by constantly moving your car. An access track runs round the site and you can then park the car next to your tent on the grass. The sites around the outside of the site have electrical hook-ups. As we don't use mains, we took a site in the middle.
There is a well maintained shower/toilet/washing up block which is cleaned every day and has a fridge and freezer for campers use. The owner mentioned that the floor of the showers had a bit of a damp problem over the summer. My own observation is that this is down to the users, not the construction. If you close the shower door properly, don't run the shower with the door open to check the temperature and wipe the door before opening it again, there is no problem. Hot water available at all hours when we came back late. Movement sensor on the internal lights worked well and a permanent light outside for access. Ramp to the block, disabled WC immediately inside the door and looks to be wheelchair accessible throughout.
There is a pub in Redmire which does meals but we didn't get there during our stay. There are no shops in Redmire. The nearest are in Leyburn 5 miles away. Leyburn is a small market town which has banks, supermarket, hardware shops and eating places. Parking is on an honesty basis but spaces can be difficult to find as this is a very popular area.
Our main focus was on Bolton Castle. This is well worth a visit. 14th century castle, partly demolished during the Civil War to remove any military value. The rest is in relatively good condition. It housed a medieval music festival together with instrument makers and craft market so plenty of weather proof rooms and a great hall and displays to visit even when the festival is not there. There is a tea room, toilets and a gift shop. There are also beautiful gardens laid out to visit and when the cloud clears there are panoramic views. You can see why the castle was sited to control the whole valley. Bear in mind it is a castle. There are a lot of steps up circular staircases over 5 floors! If you can make it the view from the battlements is worth the effort.
Within a couple of miles of the site are Aysgarth Falls and Redmire Falls. Both are worth a visit and do need a bit of walking on paths through the woods that are maintained. Some of the views at Aysgarth can be reached in wheelchairs but not the full run.

Stayed here for three nights with my two children and was very impressed. Site is more or less flat and there were no restrictions on where you could pitch the tent. Also very good value as you're charged per tent not per person, so it was a very reasonable 12 pounds per night all in. Facilities were good and seemed quite new- toilets, showers, fridge, covered washing up/ food prep area all in the same well-lit block with plenty of hot water. Security lights also very handy for finding your way around the site in the darkness. Owners were very friendly and helpful and all facilities were very clean. Village is only a short walk away but shop is no longer open. The site is very well situated for the whole of Wensleydale, an easy half day walk (about 7 miles there and back) from Aysgarth falls and also very near to Bolton Castle and the hidden gem of Redmire Force which only took about half an hour to walk to. Having stayed at lots of sites of varying quality I would rate this one as well above average.

A return visit to a site which has always been good value but has now received an important upgrade. The new Portakabin toilet block is a real improvement on the previous facility. Our visit was on a very chilly weekend so there was plenty of condensation but there was the usual cleanliness and good presentation. The only setback was when the hot water ran out during the morning but I expect that will be sorted if it happens very often. It's ideally located for the Dales, easy to pitch on, plenty of choice, no unnecessary rules and an ideal place for a visit.

We stayed here for one night.
The facilities are basic but clean.
1 Male loo
1 Female Loo
1 Shower (50p for 5 mins I think)
Wash up facilities.
There was no phone coverage in the area, but the owner was kind enough to allow me to use there Wifi.
We were told to pitch anywhere. There was only ourselves and two other groups.
The field is on a bit of a slope.
The village is beautiful but we did not see any shops. The Bolton Arms pub was great but busy as it is the only pub in the village.

We stayed at Swan Farm for 4 nights and enjoyed how peaceful it is here. When we arrived we were told to pitch up wherever we wanted to, the site owners were very pleasant and it was a very relaxed atmosphere.
The facilities were quite basic and consisted of 1 male loo, 1 female loo, 1 shower, but we think this was enough and we never had to wait as the site wasn't overcrowded and they were clean and always well stocked with loo roll. Also washing up facilities, shower was 50p and was nice and hot when we used it.
From the site you have lovely views of Bolton castle and the surrounding areas.
We think this site is good value for money, whereas a lot of sites now are charging per person which makes it expensive for us as a family, we were charged per pitch which was £15 for our large tent with electric hookup and car.
We even returned the following weekend for another 2 night stay and will definitely be returning again.

Stayed on this site over a bank holiday and were surprised at how few people were on it. The site is lovely, beautiful views of Bolton Castle and Pen Hill
But the facilities very basic and are dirty. Fifty pence for a shower but it was so mouldy!
The owners were very friendly and we would go again but only for a weekend, no longer.
Noise from the coach business little off putting at times but if you pitched at the far end this wouldn't concern you (our mistake).
The pub is great in the village, food very good value, but don't expect to get a meal on a weekend unless you have booked in advance because it may not happen.

This campsite had just basic facilities, but I had a good night's stay and a decent shower. The field has plenty of space and good soil for pegging into. It is easy to find just outside Redmire village, well-signed. The facilities are definitely basic though: the toilet / shower block is a bit dirty and the shower (50p coin required) wasn't very hot or powerful.
The owner was friendly and welcoming both when I arrived, also when I passed him on my way out to the pub for the evening, and again in the morning when I was leaving.
Redmire village has a small shop (closed the day I was there) and a fine little pub the Bolton Arms, selling good beer and meals.
On a busy August weekend when many other campsites near Leyburn were either already full or only taking bookings for the full weekend, Swan Farm (aka Foster's farm) were relaxed enough to say just a few days in advance that no booking was needed and I was welcome to stay just one night (which was what I needed for my travelling plans).

I wish there were photographs of this site because it is in the most beautiful surroundings. To the front magnificent Penn Hill constantly changing colour in the beautiful light. To the rear Bolton Castle, medieval castle where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned, now open for tea and cakes and the chance to get lost in a maze.
The family that run the site are so friendly and it is really cheap at £8.00 per night for a medium size tent.
It is basic but clean and we wouldn't have it any other way. Great for children, close to Redmire Force and Aysgarth Falls and right next to a babbling brook.
Couldn't recommend it more highly. Three generations of our family have been visiting for 30 years or more and will continue to make the trek from London for many years to come. Enjoy
