Unfortunately this site is no longer open from 2013.
The site owner has said 'I am afraid that we have been closed down by the council, due to an article 4 directive that is on our land which we did not know about. They told us we needed planning permission to carry on trading. We have applied (twice) and they threw it out, we then went to appeal but sadly that too was thrown out, the reason they gave was 'negative visual impact'. So we have been completely shut down - we are really sad and very angry that this has happened.
I would just like to say that we have had enormous fun meeting everyone and would like to thank everyone for their support over the last 6 years'

Just home from a week staying at this campsite. We stayed in the first field, which is closest to the showers and toilets. The toilets and showers are basic but clean and functional.
Only the first field has EHU, which is limited. To have EHU you'd have to pitch on the left side of the field, which is also much better for shelter from any wind there may be.
The second field seems more sheltered.
It's a great site, they really are child friendly, it was nice to see the caution-children playing!'sign at the entrance which was much better than the last site we stayed on where the welcoming sign was 'no ball games!'
Pitches are around the edge of the field which leaves plenty of room in the middle for the kids to play. The campfire we had was fab, Bill will lend you a spade to dig it out and it's £5 for a bag of kindling and logs; all the kids in neighbouring tents came round to join our two and they all sat around toasting marshmallows and bread and telling ghost stories!
The owners are lovely, willing to help if they can.
St Ives is amazing, park in the Rugby Club car park for a fiver all day and then jump on the bus which comes every 15 mins and will take you right up to Porthmeor beach, so you can take all your beach stuff and it won't be too far to carry it, all for £1 for adults and 50p for kids.
Its a basic site, nothing special and it doesn't claim to be. First rate and we'll be going back if we ever get any good weather!
We didn't walk to St Ives, but others did and said it was a pleasant walk down, but a bit steep on the way back, but then anywhere into St Ives is going to be down hill and this site is one of the closest to town.

We have just spent 11 nights here and what a brilliant find it was. It is only a small site but is well maintained and has a lovely laid back feel to it.
It is a very child friendly site and the facilities are great, there can be a slight wait for the showers at busy times but they ask you to limit yourself to 5 mins and generally people were obliging.
There was ample room in the fridge and freezers to store food and ice packs which was very handy and was free, as were the showers. The only thing not included is soap and loo roll in the toilets, make sure you take your own.
It is just under a 2 mile walk into St Ives which is all down hill on the way there but if you cannot manage the very steep hill back there is a bus stop just 5 mins walk from the site at Polmanter.
For enthusiastic walkers or runners the surrounding area is wonderful, there are hills galore to explore although be careful of the overgrown footpaths in some areas. One night we scaled Trencrom Hill with the kids and a BBQ and cooked dinner whilst the sun set, a magical occasion that was.
Kids are allowed to run free around the site and it really does make for a wonderful family atmosphere. Overall a wonderful site and one we will definitely be visiting again next year.

We arrived in St Ives with no site booked and found this one on Uk Campsites. Phoned up and told they had room.
The site is a real gem, kid and dog friendly and the owners Bill and Val are lovely and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.
There is what looks like a new shower block with three showers, two pot washing sinks all with plenty of hot water and free. There is also fridges and freezers which you can put your food and/or freezer blocks in, again free, with plenty of plug sockets.
There are six toilets and although they are like sheds, they were very clean and dry, but you do have to supply your own loo roll.
There are two main fields which are flat and surrounded by trees and hedges giving plenty of protection from the elements. You can have a fire, Bill will come and dig you a fire pit and also sell you wood and kindling.
They sell basic supplies, bacon, eggs etc and have plenty of good advice on where to go and what to do.
There is a footpath between the two fields which leads to the Halsetown Inn (pleasant 5 min walk), which is a lovely dog friendly pub, great ales and food. There are also another couple of pubs close by and the site is handily placed for St Ives and Penzance.
We also did trips to Lizard and Lands End. Kynance Cove, Lizard is a must, one of the most beautiful coves I've ever seen. The Minack Theatre is close by and very impressive, definitely worth a visit.
This is a real gem as I said earlier and will definitely visit again. I am so impressed with it and the owners that I want to give it a top review, but part of me is reluctant as I don't want it to get too popular, I want it for myself

After a 7 hour drive from York in Yorkshire we arrived at st ives to find that most sites were already full, on entering one site they told us to try Westerly campsite which was about 1 mile away. On arrival we were met by the owner and within an hour we were set up on a lovely quiet pitch. We had 2 small children and 2 dogs with us and I must say in all the years we have been coming to Cornwall this was one of our best holidays. The owners are a great pair and make you feel very welcome and the toilets and showers etc are good. Also the bonus of having a campfire really made the kids happy. I would recommend this site to everyone and we will be there next year without a doubt.

Small campsite above St Ives, 5 minutes into town by car or about 15 by bike, although it's 5 times longer coming back as its all uphill! Really friendly and helpful owner, for whom nothing is too much trouble.
One field available now, with a newly opened shower block with three large new shower cubicles, plenty of electricity sockets for charging phones etc, a washing machine, and 6 toilets, again perfectly clean, but take your own loo rolls!
Pitches are around the perimeter with a large open space in the middle, perfect for the kids to let off steam without getting under anyone's feet.
The weather was really strange (24th - 31st July), everything from scorching heat to thick fog and heavy rain (often all on the same day!), and I mention it purely because the site is quite high above sea level and is often engulfed in cloud, while at the same time the town itself is in bright sunshine.
A mobile shop stops off at the site in the morning for essentials which is handy, and you can get fresh eggs and wood for your campfire (yes really!) from Bill.
All in all, a refreshing change from the large commercial sites which are becoming extremely expensive. Definitely one to go back to.

After a 9 hour drive arrived in St.Ives, didn't have anything booked.
Campsite is in Halestown about 2 miles from centre of St. Ives. 2 local pubs near by, quiet back roads into town, Rugby club park and ride is very handy.
Campsite is very quiet in the middle of the countryside split into 2 fields, basic clean porto cabin toilet & shower block.
Friendly owners, bought fresh farm
Eggs every morning.
Campsite is elevated, so it can have quite a lot of low cloud and damp air, especially in the mornings, we had mist most mornings but the sun came out later.
I would stay here again, most enjoyable great little secret.
