We stayed in a log cabin over half term week. We had the campsite almost to ourselves.
The owner (Gilles) speaks good English and is very helpful, recommending places to visit and walks.
The campsite is in a small, quiet village - there are no shops and only one restaurant which we visited one evening. The food was good and the restaurant is very popular.
The campsite is very well kept, toilets and showers are very clean.
A great place for older kids to play - no play area but there are streams and woods around. Fresh bread and croissants delivered every morning.
The log cabins are basic but clean - take your own sheets. Nearest supermarket is 15km in Gerardmer which has many restaurants and shops.
Hundreds of walks around - mostly in forest. Further afield are mountain walks and trips to Colmar and the wine region. The weather was mostly sunny (hot).
Apart from walking we tried a go-Ape type activity, pedalos on the lake and horse riding. Would definitely recommend and would go again.

We stayed at this site near the end of September, we arrived on a Sunday about 6.00 and there was a note on the door to pitch up and they would come round later, it was the first time we had used freedom cheques from carefree and hadn't booked but there was 4 other units on site so didn't worry and the owner arrived about 8.30 to see how long we would be staying and if we needed any bread, his english was very good and also said he could get us some milk, he was very friendly.
We stayed 2 nights and did a walk from the site the next day in the forest that took 3 hours, with very good directions from the sheets he'd given us that also have a bit of history thrown in, there's another one for next time we go that's 5 hours to some waterfalls, that sound good.
We really liked the site it was small and peaceful and felt like we where seeing the real France with the little villages we drove through.
The facilities were good and we will definitely be going again.

We booked this site via the Carefree service of the CCC.
Very quiet site - when we were there it was less than half full. No playground/pool etc, but because it was so quiet our children were able to play in the area around our tent without disturbing others (we hope!). There is a petanque pitch, volleyball net and outdoor table tennis table. At night you can hear the stream, the wind in the trees, the owls and nothing else - bliss!
Pitches are mostly shaded, with plenty of trees around. This does mean that many pitches don't receive direct sunlight until well into the day - we 'walked' our polycotton tent onto a neighbouring, sunny pitch to dry it out (heavy dew) the morning we left. The land seems to drain well and most pitches are on a slight slope (which only really becomes apparent at night, but is not a major problem).
Hookups available on most pitches. One toilet/shower block, about 6 showers with plenty of hot water. The facilities block had been recently updated, and was clean and functional rather than luxurious! (A mixture of a few old-fashioned hole-in-the-ground toilets but the majority being modern toilets). Very clean washing up/laundry room, with washing machine and tumble drier.
Bread/croissants/pain au chocolat etc delivered daily to the campsite office/reception (order the day before) and we were very pleased with the quality - fantastic breakfasts! No bakery otherwise in the village - or shop, for that matter, although there is an auberge next door.
The site owner has some English, and is patient if you wish to persevere with practising very poor French. She seemed friendly and helpful; local tourist information leaflets are available from the site office. For non-EHU campers, you can have your own icepacks frozen for a small fee, or buy plastic bottles of ice.
Located in a lovely part of France - wooded, mountainous, pretty lakes - although the village itself was pretty unexciting. The area seems much more popular with German/Dutch tourists than Brits (to be honest we rather liked that). Lots of good walks, including several from the site itself. Closest town is Gerardmer (about 15 minutes away), which has a good range of shops, supermarkets etc. Gerardmer is on a lake and has a good range of watersports including boat hire, (pedalo, motor boat, canoe/kayak, dingy, windsurfer - you name it you can hire it!). The mountains are easily accessible with many ski-lifts running in the summer and roads go almost to the top anyway! (~1400m). Interesting day trips to Colmar (and over the German border to Freiberg, although we didn't get that far) and the chateau at Haut-Koningsberg, but be aware that the winding roads can make journey times longer than anticipated.
