Firstly as you approach the site and are using Tomtom disregard the instructions. The site is on the main road and if you follow Tomtom you’ll end up going down a narrow road to the lake!

A bit apprehensive in picking this site as comments about staff being unhelpful, various additional charges and iffy wifi. The (free) wifi is poor but that is the only real negative. Reception was closed when we arrived but just find a pitch and call there when it opens.

The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Tokens (free are issued for the showers) and apart from the washing machines and dryers the rest is in the price. Washing machine was a very reasonable 1euro 50 cents.

Facilities kept very clean and tidy. Reasonably priced bread and other items available from reception.

Enjoyed a meal at the small restaurant on site which was reasonably priced.

A bus into Dresden stops outside the site; a day ticket costs 9 euro for 2 people (tickets available from reception) and runs every 20 minutes. There’s an extensive transport network in Dresden.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the site and our visits to Dresden.

Just back from a visit with a party of 19 Motorhomes -parked on lower grassed area with plenty of room - great staff and made very welcome. Used the buses into Dresden which were very available every 15 minutes to the city railway station - loads of shopping with around 4 large shopping malls. Easy walk into the old town and riverside with loads of restaurants.

The on site restaurant is very good and you do need to make a reservation-meals around 10 euros.

We stayed only 2 nights but would have liked to stay longer

A city suburb site, well placed for visits into Dresden. Pitches have a mixture of shade and are easily accessible; those at the bottom of the site are further from the road and therefore quieter but collect water in wet weather. Separate section for tents and identified 'luxury pitches', which of course are more expensive. The only difference that I could see was better access to water and the toilet/ shower areas. Camp has two shower/toilet blocks. Showers require a token. Think outside the box and beat the queues by avoiding showering between 08:30 and 09:30!

Site has direct access to the naturbad swimming lake next door. Restaurant/ bar and small shop on site selling basics. 5 showers for men, same for women - require tokens costing 1Euro for approx. 5 minutes hot water.

City centre 20 minutes by bike or bus. Bus stop directly outside of site. Single adult ticket to centre costs 2 Euro or buy a day ticket 4. 50. Be aware: the last return direct bus leaves the city centre at around 20:30, after this getting back means changing buses, walking or a taxi.

Dresden has some of the best night-life in Germany once you're away from the tourist centre on the south bank; cross the bridge and walk 20 minutes north across the river to the Altstadt. Vibe is a bit 'alternative' but welcoming, good value with a great atmosphere and huge variety of places to eat and drink. Consult a guide book or web site for more info or get lost and enjoy yourself!

Cost per night for two adults in a campervan, without electricity including two shower tokens was 20 Euros.

Looked like most visitors arrived in motorhomes and stayed for 1 or 2 nights. No bookings taken so try to get in around lunchtime; all pitches were taken by about 16:00 on a Friday night.

City campsite close to Dresden, entrance and exit separate and a little tight for large outfits, take care on approach roads to site due bendy-buses. Reception closed 1300-1600 pitch yourself at these times. Pitches likely to be muddy after heavy rain, pitches are reached over kerbs from tarmac site roads. Long Electric Leads required on some pitches.

Showers 50c for three minutes, facilities good with launderette. Small Bar and Restaurant on site. (not used by us)

Bus to Dresden outside site, every 15mins. Family All day Ticket (2 Adults/2Children) 8e on Buses and Trams, excellent Public Transport.

Supermarket about 5 mins in car.

Dresden lovely City, many historical sights, nice walk along Elbe Promenade. A trip up the Bergbahn gives a view over whole city. If looking for a reasonably priced meal away from tourist area recommend Karstadt Dept Store good restaurant on 5th Floor

To find site:- The best approach for this campsite is from the A4 exit onto the A17 on the west side of Dresden. Exit the A17 motorway at junction 3 onto B170 signed Dresden-Sudvorstatt. The campsite is signed from here. (the camp website has a printable version of these instructions)

Whilst Campingplatz Dresden-Mockritz might not be considered as a long stay site is in an ideal position for a visit to Dresden. It is situated in the pleasant suburb of Mockritz to the south of the centre of City. The site reception is closed between 11.00 and 16.00 but the site management invite you to find a pitch and register when reception reopens. This is a busy site and it is recommended that you arrive reasonably early to make sure you get a pitch, advance booking is not accepted. The site has around 100 touring pitches including a separate section for tents. The ground is sloping from the main road with the most level pitches being at the bottom of the site, elsewhere you may require some front to back levelling blocks. There is a smaller section behind the main toilet block which is level and has individual water/waste/electric points, for which there may be an extra charge. In the main part of the site the pitches are laid out between roads so you have access either side. There is space for a caravan and awning with a parking place in front of the van on the wide site roads. The only problem with access to pitches is the need to negotiate a kerb at either side of the pitch. Electric points at situated at both ends of each row and are rated at 6amps. From a middle pitch a 25 metre cable is just about long enough. Water points are placed at the end of every other row. There are two toilet blocks, both of a very good standard but for showers you need a token which costs 50 cents. Reception sells a few essentials. The site has a WiFi point but this only works near to reception. There is also a small restaurant.

There is a bus stop immediately outside the campsite which takes you right into the centre of Dresden in about 10/15 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at reception but don't forget to stamp them when you get on the bus. In my view Dresden is well worth a visit and fairly compact so you can see quite a lot if you only have a day to spare. If you need any food supplies then you can't do better than visit the food department in the basement of the Karlstad department store which is superb, especially if you are fed up with the very basic German supermarkets.
