We used this site as a stop over to visit the university town of Goettingen but really wished we could have stayed longer. Staff were friendly and the facilities were some of the best we have ever seen. Showers were immaculate with multi jet heads and proper shower trays with sliding doors. The site has a swimming pool attached which is fab for kids and adults (we loved the slide) and is half price entry after 6pm. Looks like it could be busy in the peak season with a large number of static caravans which are popular in Germany, but the touristen pitches were nicely placed with lovely views. Electric hook up was extra but not expensive and water was close to the pitch. If you didn't fancy washing up there is a dishwasher (they have thought of nearly everything) but the washing facilities were also really clean. Really couldn't fault the site and would definitely recommend.
To find site:- From A7 leave at junction 73 (Gottingen) and take B3 towards Dransfeld. In Dransfeld watch out for Esso filling station and turn left immediately past it following the campsite signs. Your Sat Nav may want to take you down some minor roads to this campsite but best to stick with the route I have outlined.
Camping Am Hohen Hagen is a site that has a large section of permanent caravans, however there is an excellent touring section right at the top of the site with spacious pitches and some superb views over the surrounding countryside. There is a smaller touring section near to reception with individual water and waste. There is also a special area for motorhomes. Electric points are 16 amp. Water points are dotted around the site at regular intervals. There appears to be no obvious low level waste water disposal. The chemical toilet point is in the men's toilets, I am reliably informed there is another in the ladies toilet! The toilet blocks are really excellent. Near reception is a small shop selling mainly bread and cakes. There is also a bar with a terrace overlooking a swimming pool complex which campers have access to. Access to the site is restricted between 13.00 and 15.00. This site accepts Camping Cheques. We found this campsite to be very relaxing and quiet. There is site wide WiFi access which is reasonably priced. Access cards can be purchased at reception but you can also log on and pay on-line.
The town of Dransfeld is within walking distance where you will find several supermarkets and other shops. A little further away is Gottingen which is well worth a visit not only for the old town but also as a shopping centre.
