Spent a week here in August. Nice big plot on the banks of the River Jonte, separated from campers either side by hedges.

Was right beside children's' play area, so quite noisy until after 10pm, but otherwise fine. Toilets, showers and washing-up facilities all good. Basic shop on site was (unsually) reasonably priced. Fresh bread and croissants every morning.

Pool was good, but unsupervised, with little attention paid to rules. Consequently, people were smoking, swimming in outdoor shorts, play fighting in the water, etc. Was a bit unsettling on several occassions.

Pitches are grass, and combination of rain and a slight slope meant that our motorhome got stuck, but thankfully was pushed onto the road by some helpful (French) campers.

Meyrueis is a short walk away through the woods and is very pretty. Lots of decent restaurants. However, lady in Tourist Information either had a problem with English people or people with kids, as she was fairly horrid to us for no apparent reason. Otherwise, definitely worth a visit.

We stayed here for 10 days in August 2014 (in a tent) and had mixed feelings about the campsite.

Positives: lots of scope for hiking and biking - stunning area. Nice pool, although it is over the road and up a hill (this was not as bad as it sounds).

Lovely 10 minute walk along the river to Meyrueis.

All the pitches are strung out along the river which is very pleasant.

Negatives:

Our main issue was that the campsite is at the bottom of a deep gorge and was really cold at night - we had to make an emergency dash to the nearest Decathlon (2 hours away) for extra bedding etc. I understand the weather all over France was unsettled at that time, but I think the altitude (it's high) and depth of the valley meant that it was colder than neighbouring areas.

Access is tricky to anywhere other than Meyrueis - the roads are winding and precipitous in places. Millau is a good 45 - 50 minutes away.

The owner was grumpy and appeared to dislike children (the other staff were friendly though).

This was our third camp site on a first trip in a caravan. Booked it for a week last summer, but loved the area and site so much we stayed on for another 5 days.

The site is in the Gorge du Jonte and the river Jonte backs on to most of the pitches. However in mid summer, it isn’t much more than a stream and the kids enjoyed jumping from rock to rock every night and catching frogs. Be aware though that for some pitches there is a 2m drop to the river bed, which might not be suitable for some toddlers. You could always request a toddler friendly picth. Pitches are a reasonable size, with hedges between most for privacy, and just enough room to park the car. The ground was still in good condition even in August, with sufficient grass.

Toilets and showers were very modern and clean, and no problems with hot water, and lots of them. Same for the washing facilities and laundry. Bread and pastries delivered every morning, but not much in the way of food on site. Although there is a Pizza bar, which also sells cooked chickens, etc. Badminton, table tennis and children’s playground with rubber surfacing (very safe) on site. Beautiful swimming pool built into the side of the gorge, with a toddler pool, but watch the kids crossing the road to get to it. Evening entertainment available consisting of bingo, singers, quizzes, etc. Staff were very friendly and helpful (young Eastern European girls, which is always pleasant), the manager a bit eccentric and good fun.

There is a small supermarket 2 mins drive away, but relatively expensive. In fact the only problem with this area is the lack of a large supermarket with good choice, and so you have no choice but to use the local one. Plan to stock up on expensive consumables and wine before arriving and you will save a fair bit of money. The road from the autoroute is a little narrow, like most roads in the area, but luckily didn’t meet any large caravans coming the other way. Relief.

The area is outstanding. Meyruis is a 10 min walk away and consists of restaurants, boutiques, etc with the river running through the village. 30 – 45 mins way is Le Gorge Du Tarn, which is breath taking. Lots of beautiful river beaches with crystal clear water for swimming, canyoning, snorkelling (yes, amazing fish), kayaking, rafting. Lots of places to visit for days out. Hot in the day time and cool at night, which is what you want in the south in August.

All in all, a really great area and camp site. We had come from the Southern Ardeche before this, but found it a little over crowded in summer. Love to go back to this site and may well do that this year. However, there seems to be a huge choice of sites available, probably because it is such a beautiful region, so might have to stay at more than one.

This is a very long, narrow site on the banks of the rocky River Jonte, so we were soothed to sleep by the sound of rushing water. The pitches were of a reasonable size. The toilet block is fine, but as in so many French campsites it's unisex and there are no seats. The dishwashing and laundry facilities are good. There is a large bar with free wifi but no restaurant. The staff were a little odd - first we were told our caravan wouldn't fit, then we were shown to a rather awkward pitch when there were lots of other, better ones, then we were told there were no water taps except in the toilet block - which wasn't true! However, it might be down to communication problems - I don't think they get many British visitors

There is a lovely swimming pool but to reach it you have to cross a road and climb some steep steps. The site shop is very basic but there is a good supermarket 500m away. The great thing about this site is the stunning surrounding scenery of the Gorge du Jonte and the even more spectacular Gorge du Tarn. We chose to drive along the spectacular corniche roads, but canoes and kayaks are very popular and probably the best way to take in the views of the towering limestone cliffs. There are some fascinating caves nearby, and wild vultures have been reintroduced to the area. It's slightly disturbing to see 20 or more of them circling overhead!

A nice, quiet campsite to use as a base for exploring this beautiful area.
