I must disagree with the previous negative review of this camp-site, which is on the edge of Vence and St Paul de Vence in Southern France, east of Grasse. St Paul is a picturesque, hilltop town, full of winding, narrow cobbled streets, artists’ studios and shops selling typical Provence items.
We approached from the northern end of the Route Napoleon - after visiting Chartreuse. Spectacular scenery if a bit scary in places (maybe not a good idea for very large motor-homes or big caravans!)
I first stayed at the site in 2005 and was delighted when I remembered it correctly this time. It is large (over 400 pitches) with flat areas for caravans and larger campers near the entrance/ exit/ restaurant and pitches for tents amongst the trees on higher levels. I did not see anything in the way of leaves, but then it was not Autumn!
There are numerous clean loo/shower/washing facilities, with racks of loo paper outside (not tracing paper in 2013 - just normal, softish in single sheets. However, they were not the Andrex Puppy variety!) There is no restriction on the amount you take so not sure why the previous reviewer found it a problem. There were taps here and there, separate to the shower blocks.
I do not have children so did not check the Child Friendliness box. There were several happy children playing around so I am sure it was fine from that aspect.
I did not use the pool but it looked very inviting and very clean. I also saw a tennis court but it was not being used at the time. We did not use the electricity (hence flat battery!) The restaurant serves an excellent variety of food (quite big helpings!) with tables inside as well as out. The shop, by the entrance, is very well stocked and has everything you might need - fruit, groceries, cheeses, cleaning products, gifts and wine/beer. I bought a lovely Provence 'nappe'. Bread/croissants etc need to be ordered and arrive at 7. 30am next day.
The owner/Reception staff are very friendly and speak pretty good English - in fact they went out of their way to be helpful when we had a flat battery -using the internet to find the AA site and loaning us a charger. A fellow camper provided jump-leads.
There is a bus stop outside the site, for Vence. Overall, the site is attractive and we had no criticisms. The terrain is typical of Southern France, where it can be quite hot so there would not be green, mown pitches!
I first saw fire-flies here in 2005. I hope to use the site again if next in the area, which is really beautiful. No hesitation in recommending.

I suspect that this campsite will continue to divide opinion. The facilities are kept very clean indeed, the reception staff were always helpful.
I found the site charges a bit steep, We had a comfort pitch but the water was on a push button tap and it took forever to fill our barrel. You have to wait for someone to turn up and open a box to plug the electrics into. It is then locked again so if the fuse goes (and this happened to quite a few people), then you have to wait until there is someone willing to come and sort it out. We never did find how to empty our water waste as they seem to have locked the pipe work under a wooden hatch. We had paid to have this facility on our pitch so we were not entirely happy. The wifi is via an Orange hotspot by reception but it was very very poor, Our pitch was covered with high weeds and generally we felt that the owner was rather letting some things slide.
But the location was quite good in that you could visit different types of scenery from this one site. The downside is that you are nestled in the mountain foothills, so while Nice was bathed in sunshine, we had a lot of coolish cloudy weather.
Not one of our favourite sites but it did have a faithful following. It's old school camping, relaxed and natural. Perhaps we just got a bit fed up with the rain. A bit of sun would have made a huge difference!

Initially this seemed to be a pleasant site with good facilities so we set about choosing a pitch which was difficult due to the mass number of leaves left lying around the site. Some of the pitches were a foot deep in leaves from the maple trees and having a tent made this impossible for use to use therefore the selection left for us was limited. We chose one and pitched up then headed for the pool. You have to have a band for the pool which you are given upon checkin and told that they are free but if you lose it its 10 euros. The pool had some seats available for around it but not enough. It was kept immaculate though with a pool attendant there during all opening times. It did close between 12:30 and 3pm. There was a restaurant on site although I cant comment on it as we didn't use it. There was also a small shop selling produce which again we didn't use. Facilities were all in the centre of the site and a bit mish mash with toilets, wash basins and showers here and there. Hot water was available in the showers but only cold in the washbasins and the dish washing sinks which I found odd and pretty useless. Paper was available at the toilets although it wasn't in the cubicles but instead at the entrance where you had to select it one sheet at a time so you had to choose carefully how much you would need otherwise you were stuck. It was also like tracing paper so my advice is take your own. A laundry was available at 5 euros per wash. Rules were that washing could only be hung out to dry during the morning. We stayed 2 nights and left and wouldn't return mainly due to the site being messy with leaves and there being no not water at sinks.
