We have been staying at this excellent site for the last ten days, enjoying some very warm sunshine, and the odd bout of rain. We are travelling with a touring caravan. Just up the road is the fabulous Isle de Brehat, reached by a ten minute ferry ride, and featuring a north and south island completely free of cars, and with a resident population of about 400. Here there are lighthouses to visit, as well as chapels and other places of interest, together with plenty of catering of all sorts, which is relaxed and with very fair prices. Ideal to visit at this time of year, I imagine it might get a bit more crowded in August.

On the campsite itself, Le Neptune at Lanloup, we have been made very welcome. The husband and wife team can welcome you in English (we use French ourselves) and on arrival you are given a computer slide show of some of the local attractions of the area. Bread is available in reception, and the Boulanger is there every day (except Monday) with fresh supplies. There are supermarkets within easy reach as well. The site has a bar, which also serves a variety of light meals such as Pizzas. And there is a very nice heated swimming pool, which most of the time you may have to yourself at this time of year. You also have one hour a day wi fi for free, or can buy a weeks worth for 9 euros.

The site is very calm, and there is a very good choice of pitches, from smaller to larger, and well spaced with hedges surrounding each pitch, which are open at the front for access. Taps are conveniently placed around the site, and there is a good and well-maintained shower and toilet block. There is plenty to explore up and down the coast, and we chose this site in preference to those perched on or next to cliffs or the sea, as it is a bit inland – although the local port is just a five minute drive, and you can walk to it in 30 minutes or so.

The best thing though has been the helpful owners. Our car needed some repairs while we were here, and I also needed a dentist! (almost impossible in France). The site owner made many telephone calls on our behalf, and arranged a taxi for us to collect a hire car, spoke with the repair garage for us, and also found us a dentist that was free to help us that day! I had called three different dentists myself, and was gradually losing the will to live, as it was generally impossible to get much more than an answerphone message. The one dentist I spoke to just said ‘Non, it is not possible to see you within a week’.

This is a great area, and a lovely campsite, made even more so by the owners, who went above and beyond the call of duty, and who also have a great sense of humour. I also bumped into a French guitarist on site, and had a few hours being taught how to play Gypsy Jazz! Brilliant!

We found the site very clean and well maintained. Being late in the season, it was a little quiet, but the facilities were all open. The owners both spoke English and were very helpful.

We had the swimming pool to ourselves, again, clean and in good order.

We walked the 2 miles into Brehec, mainly flat road into the small harbour, the alternative route does involve some steep banks.

The excellent bus service runs through the village, so getting about is very easy if you don't want to drive.

Follow the site signs when close, the sat nav did try to send us off in some strange direction.

Phone signals are intermittent around here, but the site does have a 'mobile phone' spot and decent wifi.

Visited the site at a busy time just after the August Bank Holiday. Pitches were good in size and separated by hedges. Owner very pleasant and helpful. Mix of mainly french, dutch and english. The evening we arrived there was free entertainment, a female trio of singers/musicians who were very good and the evening was enjoyed by many. The following night there was a 'crepe soiree' again which was well attended. The pool looked nice and the bar/snack/shop were all inviting. It is a short walk to the No9 bus route which runs between Paimpol and St Brieuc. It costs only 2 euros each for a single journey which is good value for a half hour ride into Paimpol (market Tues). Mini farm is lovely for the children. Bit of a walk to the beach but again this is on the bus route. Nice friendly atmosphere on camp.

Site is a mixture of statics and touring, pitches are divided by hedging. On the side of

The camp nearest the mini farm there is some road noise, at this time of year not too big a problem but in high season I think it would probably be a busy road. These pitches also had reverse polarity. The unisex shower and toilet block was spotless.

The owner gave us a map of the area and highlighted places of interest. They have a laminated copy of route down to the beach at Brehac, takes 45 minutes to walk but be warned there are 65 steps down from the cliff path to the beach, so would be difficult with a pushchair. There is a small shop on site and takeaway in the bar. Nearest petrol is Carrefour in the direction of Plouha.

Really nice site, with very friendly helpful staff, would recommend it.

Due to the very late arrival of our ferry we would not get to the campsite in time before the barrier was locked so the owners gave us the code and left the outside light of the chalet on for us letting us know exactly where to go.

The Chalet was warmed ready considering the temperature outside was dropping in the evening and was clean and as described on their website.

On our waking we went to the reception which was located at the side of the barrier at the entrance. We were greeted by the proprietor who welcomed us to his campsite and the region. He then showed us a virtual tour of the area on a large screen and was able to guide us as to the best places to go and visit which was conducted in English.

We were informed of a local concert taking place in the bar that evening which would be accompanied by a bbq.

There was a small grocery shop which stoked all the usual necessities, including the requestion of fresh bread and croissants in the morning.

The bar was clean and tidy and provided a good atmosphere with locals as well as campers.

The toilet block was also kept clean and tidy.

There was a small farm which was a pleasure to visit.

The swimming pool was heated to a good temperature and had a good housing. They switched the multi coloured lights on in the evening allowing swimming till closure of the pool whilst illuminated.

This is a well run site and will be very happy to recommend it and will visit this again in 2013.

Keep a close eye open for the little blue signs with yellow writing that direct you off the main road (from St Brieuc to Paimpol) to Camping Le Neptune at Lanloup.

A medium sized site with a mixture of pitch sizes, some selected to house chalets. There is a covered heated pool open until the end of the season (mid October on our stay). The bar, which doubles up as a takeaway, was also open. On booking in, the very friendly patron of the site gave us a run down on the must sees of the area which included a slide show. He gave us a map with the highlights er. Highlighted. All the pitches are bordered with hedging which provided privacy, some had a picnic bench on them. There is a second small field which had a more open aspect and enjoyed full sun. On the main part of the site there was much more in the way of shade. The facilities are all housed in a central block. They are unisex and include toilets (with toilet paper and seats), showers (push button type) and basins. There is a washing machine and a dryer (€8 for both). It was quiet when we were there, most pitches were empty, it was towards the end of the season. We did not have reverse polarity.

The village of Lanloup (population 260) is a short walk away and has a pretty church, a restaurant and a great community style bar. Paimpol is a 15 minute drive to the North and is lovely. Market day was Tuesday. All the must sees previously mentioned are within easy driving distance on quiet country roads. Of particular note is the Ille De Brehat to the north of Paimpol. The boat trip round the island was a treat, followed by a walk around the little harbour area.

I heartily recommend this site. The staff are very friendly, the patron speaks good English, the surrounding area is very pretty. I hope to return one day.
