A handy stop-over site in a good location.
There is a grassed area just beyond the car park to the rear of the pub with hook-ups, etc. That area was a little soft at the time of our visit (it was very wet for days) so, after getting stuck for a short while while parking, we decided to move on to the car park having noted that there were hook ups there as well (right hand side at the back, if you happen to visit).
The pub is a really nice traditional pub with a nice range of ales. Rob, the landlord, and his wife (who's name we didn't get) couldn't have been friendlier and the menu for bar meals is very impressive. We are veggies, and are used to a choice of one, or maybe two dishes but were completely spoiled for choice here in both starters and main courses.
And the portions were very generous, to say the least. And very tasty.
Overall, a lovely place for a night or two. Thirsk is a very pleasant little town and with the railway station about a mile from the pub, York is but 15 minutes away on the train.
(the site didn't actually seem to be a Certified Site and so is open to non club members too)

Visited this pub with camp site for two nights, had a lovely couple of days, owners only took over 7 months ago, very nice people, nothing to much trouble. Food excellent, had a lovely lamb sunday lunch, very cheap. Good beer, log fire very cosy. Camp site basic but very clean. Toilets, waste disposal, fresh water, only £10 a night with electric, a nice 2 mile walk to thirsk or bus stop right out side, we got a lift down off landlord. Children's play area with picnic tables just over road a short walk away, defo going back soon.
