 Stayed a couple of nights on our way back up country specifically so we could visit Postman Cheval's Ideal Palace which is five minutes walk away across the river.
I'd echo everything the previous poster has said - lovely site with very friendly staff and the best site brochure I've seen crammed full of info about the site, town and surrounding attractions, walks etc.
Attached pool is excellent - I have a feeling the site may have been a municipal seeing it shares pool with the municipality.
Small Intermarche with 24/7 fuel only 50 yards from site gates.
Certainly consider revisiting as a stop off or for a longer period visiting the Drome.

A lovely site in the village of Hauterives, with very friendly staff.
The site is loosely divided in two, the pitches on the right didn't appear to have many trees, so due to the heat we camped on the left
The toilet blocks were fine, modern and clean
Some pitches have the 'old' style electric points, so take an adaptor in case
There are two swimming pools, a kids one & a much larger one
Next to the pool is a bar/restaurant. We didn't try it, but the menu looked good.
Just a few yards from the site entrance is a small supermarket. In the opposite direction just over the river is the fascinating Postman Cheval’s Ideal Palace. A 10 minute walk.
Reception will also provide a very useful information pack in English.
