This won't be a great review and I suspect we would have taken more kindly to the place at any other time of year! It was grossly overcrowded while we were there (which included a major holiday weekend), the mens' toilets were never seriously clean, dogs were allowed to roam freely with obvious consequences. There were musical events most evenings, sometimes going on late and some of them seemed religious. It was a sizeable walk into the town along narrow roads with speeding motorists.
Vila Flor is a nice enough little town with a quirky museum and a covered market but not a place you would go out of your way for; but it's a nice enough stopping place if you're on your way to the high hills or various archaeological sites in this province (Braganza).
The site had some good points - a friendly little bar where small meals (pizzas and the like) are cooked and where a splendid vinho verde is sold. The people were very friendly. For those who like water, the municipal swimming pool shares the same site and over the road is a barragem: a reservoir used for (apparently) unsupervised water sports. Nearby is an extensive wooded play area.
The only campsite for many miles so use it if you like, but not in early August!
