 We arrived end of season 2008 at this lovely peaceful (it gets very busy in high season) ex municipal site adjacent to a sports complex and lovely open air swimming pool.
We were warmly greeted by the lovely Isabella and her husband Herve who keeps the site spick and span. You can pick your own pitch, all are bordered by hedging and many with shade from mature trees.
It's very good value at only €3 per person per night (electric extra). Most pitches had EHU and water. The toilet blocks were undergoing something of a revamp when we were there, but the block that was finished was of good standard with hot showers, UK style toilets and private sinks, all spotlessly clean. There was a huge washing machine and washing up and clothes washing sinks
Herve also runs the shop that sells basic provisions, wine and beer, and also offers the usual snacks like pizza, sausage chips etc. With a meal deal that comes with a very strong beer (8%) of your choice or a soft drink. He also does a breakfast to die for- you have to order your breakfast the night before and it's served to you on the terrace in front of the shop- it's very good value for all you get, and a good opportunity to get to know your fellow campers.
The usual Super U, Intermarche and Aldi are a short drive away as is Nontron which has a good weekly market. Brantome is lovely and well worth a visit. The weather was superb, the area outstandingly beautiful and we'll definitely be visiting again.
